[RBW] Re: Showers Pass Stuff On Sale

2012-05-28 Thread Brewster Fong

Actually, it depends on the model. I was looking at the Hybrid. At SP, its
selling for $140; Clymb has it for $100. My only hesitation is I don't know
how these jackets fit?! I prefer to pay my LBS a few more dollars to make
sure it fits...Good Luck!

Btw - does "Zach" have to continue posting to this group every time this
stuff goes on sale? I appreciate his first few posting, but at this point,
I get enough spam from the seller that I really am tired of their "alerts"
and will soon unsubscribe

Re: [RBW] Re: rene herse crank

2012-05-28 Thread Eric Platt
Maybe a race to the bottom bracket.

Can understand why folks would pay the premium for a low Q nicely made
crankset. Not all of us need low Q, though. Have no problems with Sugino
XD2 on a 110 bottom bracket on my Sam Hillborne. But that would have a
huge Q factor for many. For my use, it's more comfortable.

(Was going to compare it to 650B, but am not going there again.)

[RBW] WTB: A really long stem. Like 120/130/140/150. 26mm clamp. For 1" threaded headsets.

2012-05-28 Thread Ryan Ray
Not many are made that big but my top tube is too short. Only the hoods on
my bike are comfortable at all. I really want to stretch out.

My current one is beautiful and 100mm
long: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ryanrray/7281514250/in/photostream (I'm
measuring it wrong)

120 could probably work but longer would be better I think.

(Yes I posted for a trade but didn't get any bites. Kind of hard to trade a
stem anyway unless you have a few lying around)

[RBW] F/S: 56 STT, Orange Sam, F/F/HS/BB

2012-05-28 Thread Ray
I am selling a 56 orange Sam Hillborne single top tube frame, fork,
bottom bracket, and headset. I purchased the frame last summer from
another list member, but never got around to building it up. When
purchased, it was described as a new but incomplete build. That is how
it appears to me. There is some paint wear evidence that the fork had
been placed into the frame, and that wheels have at one time been
secured to the drop outs. I inadvertently scratched the right fork
blade when opening the packing. (See photo). The frame is otherwise is
in very clean -- I'd say never ridden -- condition.

I am selling it reluctantly, but I need to thin the herd. I have opted
to keep my trusty Atlantis and let the Sam go on to another
enthusiast.

Price is $750, $700 for local pick-up in SF. Shipping only to CONUS.
Will accept PayPal and cash. If paid by personal check, I will ship
once funds clear. Interest and questions off-list please. Pix:

2012-05-28 Thread cyclotourist
Without disregarding the financial impact, that $320 difference is 10% of a
$3200 bike (AHH + Riv build kit). Custom paint, Honjos, WI hubs is putting
it closer to $4K. If the light weight, low-Q & unique looks are what you're
after, not really a deal breaker.
For me, the proprietary chainrings would be a bigger concern over time.
Sort of thing to stock up on IMHO. The old adage of if you find something
you really like, buy a life-time supply as they'll quit making it at some
point.

[RBW] Re: rene herse crank

2012-05-28 Thread SISDDWG
Sugino XD Triple = $119. Rene Herse $440. Difference = $321. That is a
huge difference. Remember, it wasn't that long ago that everyone was
touting the XD as a really good crank. IMO it still is, not saying the
Herse isn't better. But think about it -- $321 more. That can buy a
lot of chains, tires, lube, whatever and keep you rolling for quite
some time. Just my opinion.

The White M-15 hub is quite noticeable noise wise. I don't find that it
bothers me though.

[RBW] Re: Chain deal ... ?

2012-05-28 Thread Benz
Well, maybe not literally flying apart, but chain breaks aren't
particularly rare, especially when shifting under load and cross-
chained. It's fairly dangerous too, since the sudden reduction in
normal forces can lead to crashes at inopportune times.

I should clarify that I'm looking at the way the links are joined, and
perhaps I'm a bit paranoid from the routine peening done on main-
stream chains. But the chains are probably more than adequate.
