[RBW] 70 mile ride today

2013-09-13 Thread Michael
So, for my first century training over the last 2 months, I have gone from
25 and 40 mile rides, up to a metric century last Saturday, and then I did
a 70 miler today.
Beautiful riding through hilly suburban areas and the Grist Mill Trail and
the B&A Trail, which runs from BWI Airport to Annapolis.

I took the Noodle Sam, and I am hoping to ride it for the century ride.
Very comfortable. Great handling. Very smooth and cushy ride. I am really
enjoying it. I like the Carradice bag a lot. Great to hold everything I
need and clothes that I take off during the ride as I warm up. So
convenient.

I really wanted to take more pics. There was a lot of cool stuff to see,
but I don't like breaking my rhythm so much once I get going. Thinking
about time, too as the rides have been getting longish.

Anyway, here are some shots, just for fun. Sorry for the bad pics.

The Lord willing, I will be able to ride and complete the Seagull Century
on Oct. 5th.

Howdy!

I love the Soft Star Runamoc and Runamoc Dash- mostly running and casual. I
have several pairs and they have held up to daily wear for a few years. Nice
people and MUSA.

The nice thing would be that moving both Silver Shifters in the same

your cable breaks, down you go to first gear rather than ninth (or

[RBW] Re: Minimalist Riding Shoes

2013-09-13 Thread Deacon Patrick
I haven't tried those specifically, but I ran in huaraches (that same
style, essentially a flip-flop with a heel strap), both manufactured and
homemade, for about two years. They are fantastic, and if you have odd feet
the custom is a great way to go. The Bedrocks have too much cushioning for
me (foamed rubber = bad for proprioception), and I never liked the torquing
of the toe-strap when descending the technical trails I run, so I shifted
to other options once I figured them out. but as a great cycling sandal,
well worth trying. If you don't like the idea of a toe thong, these may be
worth trying (I haven't tried them): http://www.unshoesusa.com/pahtempe.html

[RBW] Blue Rivendell sighting in MD

2013-09-13 Thread Michael
Saw guy riding a dark blue drop bar cream headtube "Rivendell" on DT bike today
by BWI airport in MD. He was oncoming on the MUP.
I yelled "Rivendell" as I went by, but rider didn't stop to talk. I slowed to
check.

It was a really nice dark blue. Looked like it may have been metallic. Hard to
tell. Didn't have time to notice the build on it. It was a lean and spry
looking bike and rider. They matched!

Re: [RBW] Re: WTB elegant FD adapter 28.6

2013-09-13 Thread JL
Garth,

Good point. The suntour ones are some of my favs. The Sprint and Superbe that
I have used work well with both doubles and triples and have a cage shape that
works with a variety of chainring sizes. :)

On this particular bike i wanted to try out STI shifting and 10s chains so I
made some limits to the practicality of my choices in the name of "science"

Re: [RBW] Re: WTB elegant FD adapter 28.6

2013-09-13 Thread Ron Mc
I like the functionality of the one Riv sells. If you decide to change
chainrings, you just adjust the vertical position of the FD (as you would
with a braze-on) and don't have to readjust the rotational alignment at the
same time.

Of course . one can always just get a genuine 28.6 clamp FD :) The
105 , Ultegra and Dura Ace FD's ( FD-5500 FD-6500) and such of that time
frame and older All work wonderfully, as do many Sun Tours. I even use a
105 double with a 26/36/50 triple on one bike. A 105 FD clears the Bombadil

I too, have found that a high stem is the way to go with wood chippers, et
al. I have had several back surgeries and like to be in the drops most of
the time for control. Sitting up straight as a pole with my hands on the
tops is a nice bonus for comfort!

That looks like the current winner.
It is unfortunate that riv sells IRD fds but a different brand of clamp
adapter. I am going to call them today though. Sometimes they have items

probably just looks big in relation to the smaller wheels/frame.

It's a beautiful bike, and what a great area to ride it in!

Not sure if it qualifies as elegant (more at... unobtrusive?), but this is
the one I
use,
though I didn't buy it from them.

Useful because it affords height adjustment. Tried the IRD style, but ran
into interference problems with a bottle cage boss while running a mountain
triple.
