My guess is that the new crank is a 110 with 74 and 58 triple drillings, like
how some TA zephyr models came. That crank offers a wide variety of
adjustability and differing setups.

Thomas,

I have been using the (old) Vittoria Randonneur Hypers (now Voyagers) in 35
& 38 mm on three bikes for a few years now with thousands of miles and no
flats. Not only that, they seem as supple as Marathon Supremes without the
price, though might not be quite as light. Getting great mileage, too.
(Haven't worn one out yet.) I like them a lot for pavement and gravel

I did a similar thing on my Surly LHT, using the low rider mounts and
threaded holes on the side of their crown. Seems pretty beefy to me,
although I mainly use it for a Small TrunkSack so I don't load it up with
big weight. Still, in 1.5 years of lots of bumpy riding it's never given
any signs of coming loose or even flexing all that much.

Re: [RBW] Re: knicker socks

2014-12-09 Thread Aaron Young
Who needs knicker socks when you can just grow out your leg hairs real nice
and thick? :)

Jokes aside, I bought several pairs of over the calf merino socks from
Lands End which have been great. I've been checking their site but can't
find them this year. Too bad, because they are my go to daily wear socks.

Good luck,

Re: [RBW] Re: My stolen Rambouillet

2014-12-09 Thread Bill Lindsay
Regarding Serial Numbers, I've decided that I'm photographing every bike's
serial number and posting it on flickr, I have it on my computer, too.
 Here's my Atlantis:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/45758191@N04/15968356411/

I feel like this makes it easy for me to find it if I need it, and it has a
believable timestamp on it, showing WHEN it became mine. That doesn't help
you, I realize, but your situation reminds me to make sure all my bikes ser
#s are photographed. Good luck getting Rambo back!

So sorry, Mark. I’ll keep an eye out in DE.

[mailto:rbw-owners-bunch@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Mark Wilkins
Sent: Monday, December 08, 2014 10:58 PM

Subject: [RBW] My stolen Rambouillet

Ouch. Hurts to type the words.

Just thought I'd put this out there, in case it shows up on CL/ebay.

My 2005 (blue) 58cm Rambouillet was stolen from my (unlocked) garage this past
Thursday or Friday. Some of the other identifying characteristics:
- Stolen from my garage in Camp Hill, PA (near Harrisburg)
- Purchased new from College Park Bicycles in 2005 (still has the College Park
sticker)
- Berthoud fenders
- Velo Orange front/rear racks
- Brown B17
- Shimano Nexus front hub w/ fork-mounted light

Here's the most recent photo, taken in May:

http://cl.ly/image/413t0C1y2C1n

If you happen to notice it out there, my aching heart would love to hear about
it.

Thanks,

Mark Wilkins

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find the file where I kept the

said...

"Not positive but I think I saw a bike like this outside the Legion in

surprising, it was Jim's trial-and-error directions that took this thread
south for me.
I work on valuable antique fishing reels for a hobby business.

start with the correct tools, plan everything, and know your limitations.
 E.g., if it's you can't readily remove a 40-year-seated bottom bracket

and will preclude your half-day of frustration and damage with a 3-minute

Re: [RBW] Re: Daring to wrench on my Riv's?

2014-12-09 Thread Toby Whitfield
Johann - no problem with up or down as long as it isn't in reference to
direction you are pushing the wrench, like the other suggestion of "down for
out". Down with the wrench to the front or back? I suppose with a bottom
bracket your wrench is facing the front of the bike, as the other orientation
doesn't work as well.

Johann, your memory aid seems good.

I should probably put a crib sheet in my toolbox.

serial number?
mycriagslistfinder.com
and jaxed.com should add up to
pretty good us coverage

if it goes into a container bound for
foreign distribution, recovery is less likely, duh

Beautiful bike Mark. I hope you get it back. I don't usually look at CL
or Ebay but will now in case it made it's way to VT.

2014-12-09 Thread WETH
I am sorry to read this. It is a beautiful bike. I am in the DC/Baltimore
area and will keep watch if it appears locally.
Best wishes for a recovery,
