[RBW] Re: Looking for a replacement for the old MUSA short sleeved merino wool jersey

2019-08-07 Thread dstein
Those royal blue ones were the best. There's nothing quite like them.
Closest I found were the Ibex ones before they shuttered. They were plain,
no frill lightweight t-shirts. You could wear them on and off the bike.
There weren't form fitting either which I personally liked (though I think
the benefit of wool comes from being closer to the skin to wick the sweat
away?). Mine is also on the fritz and will be missed.

[RBW] tire sidewall separation

2019-08-07 Thread John Casteen
A tire question.

I'm riding 32 mm Continental Sport Contact IIs-- the basketball tire-- on
Velocity A23 rims. They've been great for about 18 months and 1000 miles,
generally run at 55 rear / 50 front psi, which has worked for both paved
and gravel roads.

Both tires have begun shedding fine white threads in a ring about 1 mm
outside the rim. It's as though they're unraveling. Where they've come
completely out, there's a gap or groove of about .5 mm width-- both sides
of both tires. This is unlike sidewall failures that I've had before on
Compass tires and Paselas, which bubble and blister on the gum part when
they get old and worn out; this is right down near the rim, all the way
around.

Have others had trouble like this? I read up on the relevant page at
Sheldon Brown's site and didn't see anything obvious. I'm on the road with
this bike now, and hoping I can get through the rest of the trip without
worrying that either or both tires are about to blow out.

Thanks in advance for any advice--

John

2019-08-07 Thread Eric Chatham
Hi All,
Selling my 62cm Riv Sam Hillborne frameset, I bought a Cheviot frameset and
moved most of the parts over. What's left came over with the original
complete Hillborne with the typical Riv build: Sugino Triple crank,
Shimano Claris FD, Seat post, FSA headset. there are a couple of small
scratches on the 2nd top tube. Here's a couple of pics, can send more on
request. I am in Smyrna, GA, a suburb of Atlanta. Shipping to be
determined, I think I still have a BikeFlight account. We can work that
out. $900 or best offer.

oops, pictures are too large. if you have any interest, please pm or email
me.

Thanks and regards,

Eric Chatham

Re: [RBW] Re: Quickie Velogical Review

2019-08-07 Thread Patrick Moore
Good to hear 2 positive reviews of the Velogical, particularly that it can
fully power a real headlamp and a tail light even at slowish speeds, and
that it does not slip when wet.

I now use hub dynamos on 3 of my 4 bikes, but it's good to know that the
Velogical is a *relatively* inexpensive, lightweight alternative. I just
may include a bracket on the next custom I am considering.

[RBW] FS: Bob Dylan, The Band, and others.

2019-08-07 Thread Patrick Moore
My daughter is 3/4 of the way through ripping my 200+ CD albums to my
new-to-me MB Air. Since Bob is very much On Topic, I thought I'd offer
these for sale here.

*Please reply offlist to bertin...@gmail.com *

Per my daughter just now: 32 Bob Dylan albums, 3 Bob + Band albums, and 1
Bob's Rolling Thunder album. Some, but no more than 5 of these Bob albums
were burned by me.

There are 4 The Band albums sans Bob.

Some of the albums are double ones.

$50 + media mail shipping.

Take all 200 odd CDs for $100 + media mail shipping. Note again that many
of these albums are double ones (or more).

I will sell all the Bob alone, or all of it, but prefer not to make
selections.

Included in the rest of the collection in varying quantities are:

The Band, sans Bob
Rolling Stones
Beatles
Doors
Grateful Dead
Reggae greats -- Marley, Tosh, Toots & Co.
Crosby Stills and so on
Bluegrass
Jimi
Janis
Cowboy Junkies
Cream
Creedence
Aretha
Red Tail Ring
Chuck Berry
BB King
Muddy Waters
Eric Clapton
Paul Butterfield

Generally 1960s and 1970s R&R.

My daughter says that I have about 11 self-burned CDs out of the bunch. Of
these, many were burned from CDs from the public library.

About 1/3 or a bit more of the 200-odd total are classical with a bias
toward the Baroque period but include Mozart, Beethoven, and some
Romantics, along with ragas and Orthodox and traditional Roman Catholic
liturgical music.

Happy to consider trades for CDs from:

Tuba Skinny
Gregory Isaacs
The Band's The Last Waltz album

[RBW] Trade 58cm Atlantis for 56cm?

2019-08-07 Thread Brent
2008-9 Era Atlantis that I'd like to trade for a a 56cm or a 54.5
I've mostly used 40c tires and fenders and can live with the TCO of that combo.
However, using 2.1 tires with bigger fenders pushes the TCO back too far and
the bigger tires are so nice on my commute and local rides that it's time to
trade or buy a smaller frame. I've also stopped using drop bars and the taller
frame makes it harder to get the bullmoose or jones bars low enough to truly
enjoy. So, I'll try trading first since I like the Atlantis and quill stems.

The frame is in good, not pristine shape. No dents. In need of some touch up
paint. I will supply pics off forum for anyone interested in trading.

[RBW] What's the latest in 700c fenders? Planet Bike Cascadia ALX (50mm), PDW Full Metal (45mm) on a Rambouillet?

2019-08-07 Thread John W
Seeking reviews — anyone by chance use these fenders on their Rambouillet?
I'm looking for pre-drilled, relatively easy-to-install fenders with
included mudflaps, and these fit the bill.

Planet Bike Cascadia ALX (50mm)
https://www.planetbike.com/store/alx-cascadia-config-black-aluminum-bike-fenders-700c-wide-50mm.html

Portland Design Works Full Metal (45mm)
https://ridepdw.com/products/full-metal-fenders-city-size?variant=14871301488697

The 28mm Continental GP4000sii tires I usually run measure an actual
30-31mm, so I'd like to continue using them without any worry about
clearance once fall and winter arrive.

2019-08-07 Thread Jonathan Gutoff

Another data point. Without having read the posts on this topic, I ordered
a pair on May 9 of this year, 2019, at which time the website listed time
to fulfillment as 20 working days plus extra time for shipping. The website
now gives the time to fulfillment as six weeks -- Ii may be that the
original 12 days was not a typo, but, like the 20 working days and six
weeks, an overly optomistic goal.

In response to a message from me, on June 19 I got the following:

"Jonathan many thanks for your followup and please accept my apologies for
the delay - we have been extra busy these days. Your order is being
completed and you will soon get a shipment confirmation with tracking
information from the order team.

Thanks again for your business [ and your added patience] . We are excited
to get your soleRebels to you and onto your feet.

very best regards ,

*bethlehem tilahun alemu *

founder & c.e.o , soleRebels footwear"

I heard nothing for several weeks. On July 10, in response to another
message from me I got a email that said:

"Dear Jonathan,

Your order will ship Wednesday, July 24, 2019 Via FedEx Express AWB#
*811320214218
*and from shipping day it takes four working days to deliver.

Our apologies for the delay.
--

very best

Tirunesh Girma"

As of today, the order is still listed as unfulfilled and FedEx tracking
has no information on the wabill number I was provided. I sent a message
last night.

[RBW] Re: Quickie Velogical Review

2019-08-07 Thread Jonathan Gutoff
I have two Velogical generators, both ordered from directly from Germany.
One over four year ago, another three. In both cases the customer service
was really great. Both have been powering B&M Eycl front lights and
Toplight Plus rear lights without any problem in rain. There is some noise,
which, obviously, means some energy loss, but not much. Perhaps because I'm
not very sensitive, I can't notice any increased effort when the dynamo
engaged.

2019-08-07 Thread j.schwartz
I know the RBW group is an odd place to look for 31.8 anything , but curious if
anyone has a set of 31.8mm clamp Paul thumbie mounts for Shimano they’d like to
move on.
Thanks

Re: [RBW] Re: Which Rivendell frame would you resurrect?

2019-08-07 Thread bruce.herbit...@gmail.com
 Bill:
The "original" "Road" in 1995 was the Riv Road (see RR #2) which came out
before the "Standand."  It's a nice bike with level TT, normal HT, and
basically a Waterford RS front married to a slack seat tube/long stay RBW rear.
Made from Reynolds 753, drawn heavier wall than normal for RBW. The bi-plane
fork crown is nice too. It is lighter than Ram, Homer, etc, My 54 cm  frame
weighs 4 lb, 7/8 oz.  My 52 Ram frame weighs 4 lb 8 oz.  The road forks are not
quite as nicely curved as Ram, the stays are single taper. The lugs are Sachs
designed, and look powerful. Ram is more typical of Riv curlique designs. My
'95 Road is still my "go-fast" bike. "Fast" being relative of course, and
related to  the rider, not the ride.
The Road Standard came out in 1996 with sloped TT, extended HT (see catalog #3)
Strated out with the same lugs and tubes but  changed lugs by '97 iirc.
