[RBW] Stolen Bleriot (San Francisco)

2020-10-29 Thread Lee Chae
Hey Riv community,

A friend had her 57cm Bleriot stolen today in the Outer Sunset in San
Francisco. Please be on the look out for suspicious sales. Pictured as below
but the front basket had been swapped out for a saddle sack. She’s an essential
worker and the Bleriot is an essential get-around!

[RBW] Re: What v-brakes for Susie?

2020-10-29 Thread Nick Payne
Here are XT BR-M780 calipers on an Appaloosa, over Antelope Hill 55mm tyres
plus VO fenders. The fenders are ~15mm above the tyre, so without fenders
you could fit around a 70mm tyre without fouling the cable. The travel
agent matches the cable pull with drop bar levers:

Re: [RBW] Looking for silver ultegra 9s long cage RD

2020-10-29 Thread Joe Bernard
It will in fact work and yes you will drive yourself crazy trying to keep
track of all this. Shadow is just a designation for an mtb mech that sits
flush so you (supposedly) won't crash it on rocks, Riv sold the XT772
Shadow for years. I've gotten them to index 9-speed bar-ends and 10-speed
Ultegra brifters.

Where things go sideways is 10-speed and up Dyna-Sis, if you find a rear
derailer like that it'll need its dedicated clicker.

Re: [RBW] Looking for silver ultegra 9s long cage RD

2020-10-29 Thread Paul Brodek
So I'm kinda late to this party, and I don't think I have a complete
understanding of relatively recent Shimano der/shifter compatibility, but I
don't think the RD-M772 Shadow rder shown here will index properly with
Shimano downtube shifters, and even in friction mode the dt shifter cable
pull might be insufficient for the rder? Also the rder has no cable tension
adjusting barrel, so you either have to do without, making indexing really
difficult, or wire it up with an inline adjuster at the rear. I think
Shadow-type rders are only compatible with Shimano ATB shifters, not with
Shimano road shifters, dt or brifter.

Microshift does make Shimano ATB-compatible bar-cons, I think, maybe in
both 9spd and 10spd?

I've got an RD-6500-GS, all-silver, with a coupla light scratches, and an
RD-6700-GS, light-gray with a silver face, also light scratches. And a
cleaner 105 RD-5701-GS, gray/silver like the 6700. You can PM me if you're
interesting.

FWIW the 6700-GS have been creeping up in price, I sold two very clean ones
on ebay recently, one went for nearly $80 and the other just under $100.

Got the bike? Get the plane!

Offered for sale is this high quality due-cast model of Louis Blériot in his
eponymous monoplane, looking as though he’s flying over the English Channel.

Perfect for the Bleriot owner who has everything (except a scale model of the
Bleriot plane).

Re: [RBW] TA V5 VS RENEHERSE CRANKSET

2020-10-29 Thread Patrick Moore
I've used the Pro 5 Vis model on many bikes for years and have found them
strong, light, and elegant, with narrow Q. Two problems: the older ones
have a small space between inside of arm and outside of big ring; you have
to be careful with derailleur choice and setup. I think those made in the
last 10 years have more space; perhaps others can confirm or correct this
opinion.

The other problem, minor, is that the ring mounting hardware is fiddly. Buy
aftermarket hardware from VO instead.

I successfully installed a Pro 5 Vis wide range double on a very wide
stayed mountain bike with a custom 145 mm bb spindle -- point is, you can
adapt them to wider-tired frames.

I've not used the RH cranks, though I've been tempted -- I just have too
large a stash of the Pro 5 Vis's.

[RBW] Re: TA V5 VS RENEHERSE CRANKSET

2020-10-29 Thread Jason Fuller
I have put around 5000km on my Rene Herse cranks, I've no complaints about
them. The main pro's for me are the light weight, variety of chainring
combinations available, and the good looks. They seem plenty stiff but I'm
not putting down big watts or anything. The main downside to both of these
options is that if you're wearing boots or wider shoes and using flat
pedals, their heel clearance isn't great. Well that and the enormous price
on the Herse.

[RBW] Re: What v-brakes for Susie?

2020-10-29 Thread Mark Roland
Igor, did you figure out what to go with? I am running into an issue with
adding fenders to my Hubbuhubbuh--even the Shimano DXR MX70 that Riv sells
(sold out) and I have on my Susie are 110, and there is still lots of room
to bring the fenders in to the frame and away from the fender/tire, giving
the tire better clearance. The Tektro 849AL on the gravel list is no longer
available. Ironically, you can get them in white, which I was looking for
for my Susie, from England. They are pretty cheap brakes, 20-something for
a pair, but shipping doubles that. I think for max clearance with fenders,
cantis are the best option. (I wonder if the longer arms of the 849 affect
the braking power, as longer reach sidepulls and centerpulls seem to be
affected? Any engineers out there?

[RBW] Leah’s Raspberry Platypus: It’s here and it’s lovely!

2020-10-29 Thread True Golden
What a great looking frame!!!

So many terrific details.

I've had my Sam only 2.5 months now but still enjoy looking at the details of
it while taking a break mid-ride.

Grant is among the best with the small details.

Such a cool headbadge!

Congratulations!

I hope you enjoy many wonderful miles on it.

Look forward to built up pics like many on this list and we all share in your
joy.

What are the pros and cons of each crank set. Any one have experience with

It's beautiful! Even better seeing it with the smile on your face. You
couldn't have picked a prettier color. And, the metallic! It must *really

I'm looking forward to when everything is assembled and you can ride it.
