That bike with all its glorious teal and rose and Brooks and bags is - and
there is no higher compliment from me - CRAZY. As the kids would say, it's
ridiculous! Excellent work all around from Leah the parts/paint picker,
Analog Cycles for the parts/ano, and the pro shop that put it all together.
And Grant/Riv for the bike! 👏👏👏🏆🏆🏆

[RBW] Re: Let's see your shop and workbench

2021-03-07 Thread Ray Varella
Seeing some of these bike collections makes me feel like the few I have
aren’t such an indulgence.

As for the Russian River Brewing Company, we have several customers in
their immediate neighborhood and I’m in that area occasionally. I generally
stop in and pick up some beer.
I’ve tried quite a few of them and I really like their Happy Hops. It’s a
single IPA there’s also another one called row 2 hill 56 which is the
location on a hops farm where the particular hops is grown.
Another plug is for Altamont Brewing in Livermore CA. I delivered some
machinery there the other day and went home with some of their brew. The
Maui IPA is their flagship brew that they built their brewery on.
Great group, I’ll definitely go back. Likely on bike and take BART part of
the way home.

It seems like a lot of microbreweries have good relations with local
cyclists.
It would be nice if public transit improved to the point where more areas
were better served.

[RBW] WTT: New extralight Big Ones, 700C X 60, for equivalent (in weight, suppleness) in 44-48

2021-03-07 Thread Patrick Moore
Before I really try selling the Matthews roadbikefordirt, let me try some
skinnier tires, 44s to 48s. I'll trade 1-for-1 for the new Big Ones.

I want light, supple, tubeless compatible, quality similar to that of the
Big Ones. Prefer tires biased for pavement, and in any event that roll very
well on pavement.

For record, the Big Ones roll superlatively; as well if not better than my
RH road tires. Why trade? The Matthews does not handle as nimbly as I like;
hence desire to try it with sub 60 mm tires, but tires fat enough for
frame; minimum I should think is 42, I want at least 44.

Thanks.

- tubeless valve stems
- tire sealant

I have done the same conversion on a dirt motorcycle so familiar with

What am I missing? Any caveats? Am I mad to attempt this? Plus any

Oh right, that's the part I forgot to mention..I don't actually like
Riv-ersed levers. I think It's awkward even on Boscos with lots more room,

No mods needed with these, you just lose the index option on the

[RBW] Re: WTB: silver rear hub, 32h, 135mm, 11spd (or 8-10) (Velo Orange, Shimano, White, others)

2021-03-07 Thread Pancake
Parts all ordered, hub no longer needed, thanks everyone!

For the curious, here's my planned build @ $427 for silver polished
wheelset including dynamo and semi fancy rear hub.

   - Front:
  - Hub: Kasai polished 32h dynamo ($133 from Bikeman.com)
  - Rim: Velo Orange Voyager 700c 32h (2 for $110 from RBW list member)
  - Spokes: Sapim Race (same as DT Swiss Competition at 2.0-1.8-2.0
double butted) - ($0.80 each - front uses 32 spokes at 292mm long for
spoke
  calculation of 291.3mm $27 includes a spare)
  - Nipples: DT Swiss brass 12mm ($4 for 32)
  - Rim tape laying around (Orange Seal or Velocity $12 is enough for
  front and rear)
   - Rear:
  - Hub: Bitex BX106r 32h 10/11 speed silver ($110)
  - Rim: Velo Orange Voyager 700c 32h (see above)
  - Spokes: Sapim Race (same as DT Swiss Competition at 2.0-1.8-2.0
double butted) - (rear uses 16 spokes at 292mm long for spoke calculation
of 291.5mm, and 16 spokes at 294mm long for spoke calculation of 293.1mm)
  - Nipples: DT Swiss brass 12mm ($4 for 32)
  - Rim tape laying around (see above)
   - Doesn't include some tools I bought or already had:
   - Bikehand truing stand ($150)
  - ParkTool dishing tool ($22 for the portable one)
  - Nipple driver I made with an old flathead screw bit - 2.5mm long
tip (otherwise $13 for the Unior bit)
  - When use them tubeless (maybe) will need some Stan's fluid I
already have (probably $10) plus two valves (also laying around, normally
  $15)
  - Ztto (cheap) tension meter $22 - probably improperly calibrated but
I'll use it to get close and consistent between spokes.

2021-03-07 Thread Eric Marth
Let's call it a gift, then. I regret not getting a coat of semi-transparent
flat white primer on my plywood before I built all the tool holders and
shelves. They're removable... maybe one day.

[RBW] Re: Salt Lake City Cycling Question

2021-03-07 Thread Glen
The only area I am aware of that goat heads are an issue is one section of
the main north/south multi purpose trail (Jordan River Trail) and SLCo has
an active eradication program. The trail is usually very clear of them but
the shoulders can trap them in the cinders/gravel. Your current tires will
be perfect for most of your riding here.

Feel free to DM if you have any questions you'd like to ask a fellow
mid-atlantic transplant.

[RBW] Re: question re Brooks leather bar tape

2021-03-07 Thread Marc Irwin
I felt the same way when I bought Brooks tape. I even felt silly buying it
on a markdown. But it lasts and lasts and still looks and feels great 15
years later.

What Mike M. Said. Also, Velocity A23/ gravel king tires are a good match,
I have that combo on my Sam, they jumped on the rims with a floor pump

Yes is the short answer but I always tend to pull leather a little tighter.
I personally like leather tape. It'll outlast me.
