[RBW] More film camera questions

2021-06-02 Thread Patrick Moore
I think I'm set for still film camera/s, but my daughter's boyfriend wants
a film movie camera and Catie asked my opinion about one for his birthday.
She has a budget of about $200 and mentioned these:

Ideas? Go to CATLabs?

Thanks.

Re: [RBW] Re: Adapters to make SPD pedals into clip and strap pedals?

2021-06-02 Thread Patrick Moore
Thanks; I've thought of these. Questions: Does the system materially
increase Q? Is the MKS spd pedal anywhere near as good as mid and upper
level Shimano SPDs -- PD540, XT, XTR?

Actually, ~$275 for MKS SPDs and Urbans and shipping isn't too bad, but
only if the MKS spds are good pedals.

Thanks again!

[RBW] Re: WTB: O shifter mount

2021-06-02 Thread dougP
That's too bad about your seller. Seems odd. If you can't find the proper
mount, a Pauls thumbie will function. Rivendell brought out the levers
before the mounts. I bought a pair & got them to work with Pauls to hold
me over until the Rivendell mounts came out. It worked, but not as well as
the Rivendell mounts. Best of luck on your hunt.

[RBW] Re: Front derailers that won't friction shift

2021-06-02 Thread Nick Payne
I can't see what the problem is. I have modern (10s, 11s) SLX, XT, and XTR
front derailleurs operated by either barend or DT shifters, on both of
which the front is a friction shifter, and the shifting is fine.

[RBW] Adapters to make SPD pedals into clip and strap pedals?

2021-06-02 Thread Patrick Moore
Is there any well made, well functioning adapter to make an SPD pedal into
a platform that will take a standard Christophe clip? Rather than swapping
out my SPDs for quills, this might be the best solution for merely
occasional street shoe riding.

Thanks.

2021-06-02 Thread Marty Gierke, Stewartstown PA
My Clem H is running a 36 up front with a 12/34 out back. Needed extra
links to work. I too thought I could do it but one chain was not quite
enough. My stays may be longer than yours though. I also had to swap in a
longer tray on my fork mount roof rack. Good thing I had a spare from an
upright mount. Worked out well. Transporting these long bikes can be a
challenge.

[RBW] Re: Rack mountable UBS lights

2021-06-02 Thread Pat Smith
Kushan I'm in the same boat as you. I think it's weird there's no good way
to put USB lights on rack or fork braze ons. Sure there are the stubs like
the Paul, Problem Solvers, Planet Bike, or Origin8, but then you're using
that adapter and the headlights handlebar adapter. In my case I have
Cygolite lights, which have a fairly bulky handlebar adapter. The whole
system works great, it just seems unnecessarily bulky and with more parts
than needed. To further frustrate, many USB headlights have GoPro style
adapters to easily mount them to GoPro style mounts. There are a million
GoPro style mounts for handlebars, but nothing for M5 or M6 threaded holes!

By the way, if you do decide to go the route of the eyelet stub I'm sitting
on a stock of the Origin8 model in black and I'd be happy to send you one
for the cost of postage.

[RBW] Re: Rack mountable UBS lights

2021-06-02 Thread Shoji Takahashi
Hi Kushan,
Consider the B+M Eyro (scroll down a product or two on this link to Peter
White Cycles https://www.peterwhitecycles.com/b).

Eyro comes with a mount for the fork. I removed it and bolted Eyro directly
to my front fork's 3-pack mount. (I might have used a spacer, I don't
remember offhand.)

For the Soma rack, you likely would need a "brake arm" or similar piece to
attach the Eyro in its proper position (after removing the fork mount).

Eyro has been great for my evening commute in the winter. It holds enough
charge, is simple enough to clip/unclip for charging, and, importantly, has
a nice lens with cutoff. I sometimes would use a MUP, and the lens cutoff
is great for keeping the light out of users' eyes.

Also, the mount makes it look integrated, and not clip on. This might be a
deterrent for thieves in contrast to handle-bar mount styles.

Good luck!

[RBW] For Sale: My last stashed CX70 brakeset

2021-06-02 Thread Bill Lindsay
I pulled together this CX70 brakeset for another lister's WTB build.
Before they go back into the parts box, I'll give the group a shot at
them.

Up for sale is an almost totally complete Shimano CX70 cantilever
brakeset. You get

Both calipers and their mounting bolts
Both stock straddles
The original and unused Shimano compound inserts reinstalled for this sale
All four Long spacers and bolts
SIX Medium spacers and bolts (two extra). Four installed + two extra
TWO Short spacers and bolts
The original installation manual which has the map of spacer and washer
configuration for your cantilever post width and your rim width

These brakes have been on a couple of my builds over the years, so they've
had some use, but I'd call them mechanically spot-on. $90 shipped.

[RBW] WTB: O shifter mount

2021-06-02 Thread Tom Wyland
OK, the good news is that I purchased a new O Silver 2 shifter and mount
from eBay a week before they restocked then sold out. The bad news is that
the seller sent me an O shifter with an X mount. The message from the
seller was a shrug and a "that's what Rivendell sent me." So I have an
extra X mount to trade if you need it. If you bought a shifter set from
Rivendell, maybe double check that you have a matching mount.

I really do like the inside mounting technique for these shifters. They're
easy to use and work well with pogies in the winter.
