[RBW] WTT: Pants and Jacket for smaller sized

2021-11-06 Thread Robert Dowtin
I have pictured in the link below, one pair of size 36 Rene Herse knickers
and I would love to trade them with someone who has a size 32 of the exact
same pants. I have worn and washed these pants probably a dozen times and
don't appear to have lost any quality. Also pictured is a pair of Swerve
pants, size 34, I recently got from either this list or the 650b list.
Amazing quality, very much your new fall go to pants. I would love to trade
these for a comparable pant worth about $50 or I would be willing to trade
these for the RH knickers size 32 and I will kick in $30, lets say? Both of
these pants phenomenal just are simply too big for me now. Same goes for
the last article which is a Garneau jacket sized XL, fits more like a L.
Would love to trade it with someone for a medium/large similar fall/winter
jacket. Let me know what you got.

[RBW] Re: Bars For Sam

2021-11-06 Thread Joe Bernard
If the Sam is just a smidge long in the cockpit with Noodles then I
wouldn't go shorter on the stem for pullback bars, the reach is VERY
different from drops. If you have a 26.0 stem clamp now you can mount a
25.4 Bosco or Choco with a shim. This will give a good starting point
without buying a new stem, you'll know pretty quick if you need longer or
shorter.

[RBW] Re: Bars For Sam

2021-11-06 Thread David Person
6’-2” with 95cm PBH. 62cm Sam (2015 model). Started with Nitto drops with
100mm Tallis. Switched to Albatross bars pretty quickly, same stem.
Recently switched to Choco bars with 110mm Nitto Fillet FacePlater stem.
I have the Choco bars mounted ‘upside down’ as I like the angle it places
my wrists in. My preferred hand location is at or ahead of the brake
levers. Needed the FacePlater stem to keep the bars (at the grips) at the
same height as the Alba/Tallux combination.

I'm liking that frame color, lime-olive and the tan sidewalls looks great.
Nice build. I bought my garage sale Clem L over two weeks ago and it hasn't
shipped! I'm getting impatient.

Hey Ben,

I mounted a new pair of Gravelking slick 700c x 38's on my single speed bike

[RBW] Re: Bars For Sam

2021-11-06 Thread Ben Mihovk
Hey Richard!
I really like Chocos for what you're describing. They have a great flat
next-to-stem position you mentioned, as well as a really nice position
around the bends that is kind of like the hoods on drops. Then you have
your nice upright position on the grips, too. I have Chocos on my MIT
Atlantis, and I use all three positions (though I usually split time
between using the grips and the bends).

When you say the bike is too big, I'm assuming you just feel too stretched
out horizontally. If that's the case, I like what Jason did with a shorter
stem. I'm very similar to your build (93.5 PBH, 6'3") and I have a 62cm Sam
with a 9cm stem and Noodles and I feel like it's just perfect. I know
geometries might not be exactly the same on our Sams and I do have long
arms and am a touch taller...but if you could get the bars 4-5 cm closer,
do you think that'd do the trick?

Good luck!
Ben

out horizontally. If that's the case, I like what Jason did with a shorter
stem. I'm very similar to your build (93.5 PBH, 6'3") and I have a 62cm Sam
with a 9cm stem and Noodles and I feel like it's just perfect. I know
geometries I do have long arms and am a touch taller...but if you could get
the bars 4-5 cm closer, do you think that'd do the trick?

Good luck!
Ben

[RBW] Re: Bars For Sam

2021-11-06 Thread Jason Fuller
Hi Richard - since I don't fit a 62, I can offer an impartial opinion ;)

I run Noodles on my Sam but required a 5cm stem for the fit to be right.
Some would say that needing such a short stem means the bike doesn't fit me
but I wholeheartedly disagree - the short stem gives it a longer wheelbase
and longer front-center compared to a "standard road fit" and this benefits
its mixed-surface capabilities undoubtedly.

If you wanted to retain some of the road type fit you could try the
Albastache - probably also on a fairly short stem, but about 2-3cm longer
than what a Noodle would use to get you the reach you're after (I think),
so might work well with your existing stem.

The Choco is a beautiful bar too, though you might need a long stem to get
the fit right. Worth trying though! Since the Sam's geometry is sort of a
hybrid between drop and upright bar geometries, I'm betting you are right
to try it with an upright bar - but if you can just go shorter on the stem,
I think that's worth exploring too

[RBW] WTB/WTT: Shimano CX70 Front Derailleur

2021-11-06 Thread Brian Campbell
Hi. Wondering if anyone who has transitioned to 1x shifting, or in the
parts pile<, that they woul be willing to part with?

I could use either clamp on or braze-on style in the bottom pull format.

Thanks!

2021-11-06 Thread Ben Mihovk
Joe,
Funny you say that...I just decided not to mess with the shifters. I don't
want the hassle of grinding off the tab on the shimano pods, and I don't
want to buy new Silver pods AND shifters when I have perfectly working
shifting as is for the sake of a slightly "blingy-er" cockpit.

[RBW] Re: 11 speed cassette for pre-2017 Homer?

2021-11-06 Thread Garth
Do you really want to use 11-speed stuff Jason, or are you letting the 105
stuff you have dictate what you ride ? Your frame is 135mm spacing so an
11sp capable cassette body will work. But I'm getting the impression you're
letting the derailleurs you have yank your chain, so to speak. With the
8-10sp stuff you have a lot more flexibility, and you won't have to replace
the 350 freehub body, assuming it is the 8-10sp version. Derailleurs are
easy to sell and buy. The obvious thing to me is simply get a replacement
FD for the one that "broke" and be on your merry way. How does a FD break,
by the way ?

2021-11-06 Thread Ben Mihovk
The Gravelkings are more and more intriguing to me. One person on this
thread mentioned they are more like 35mm installed on older Super Champion
rims (which I'm guessing are much more narrow than the Atlas rims I have).

Has anyone put the 38cm Gravelking Slicks and measured how wide they are
installed?

Thanks,
Ben

Is that hub currently 130 spacing and they're going to widen and redish
with a longer freehub and axle? Your Homer has 135 spacing so I don't see a
problem here, an 11-speed cassette/hub/wheel should fit fine.

[RBW] Re: FS: 52cm Clem Smith H, MUSTARD

2021-11-06 Thread 'Christopher Barbey' via RBW Owners Bunch
Three questions if you don't mind:

1. What size are the wheels on this?
2. Are you at all willing to sell just the frame?
3. How tall are you/what's your PBH & how do you feel about the fit?

Thank you!

[RBW] 11 speed cassette for pre-2017 Homer?

2021-11-06 Thread Jason Glenn
I have a technical question and can't find an answer, so I'm hoping that
some with experience may be able to help.

I'll put the details below, in case anyone wants them, but my question is
this: *Does anyone run an 11 speed cassette with a pre-2017 Homer?* My
Homer is 2011.

Details:
The front derailleur on my new-to-me 2011 Homer broke the other day. For a
number of reasons, I am considering putting the nearly Shimano 105 front
and rear derailleurs on the bike, which would require an 11 speed cassette,
which I also have. The 11 speed drivetrain doesn't work on my 1980s bike
that I foolishly bought them for.

To put the cassette on the hub, I need to replace the free hub body on the
rear hub (DT Swiss 350). Apparently it's easy to do, but the people at DT
Swiss don't know if the frame is compatible with an 11 speed cassette and
say the only way to know is by trying.

I'd prefer not to buy the part only to discover that it doesn't fit --
that's how I wound up with the 105 parts in the first place. Hoping that
someone here might have the set up.

Thanks,
jason

Another thumbs up for the Gravel King 38 slicks. Have a pair on my
canti-Rom and they are really fast and comfy smooth at 35-40 psi,
super-great tires. I've not ridden any RH tires and they may be even
better but these are so nice I have no desire to spend the money to find
out.

[RBW] Re: Pick your brains about spoke count?

2021-11-06 Thread Mr. Ray
Wheel building is an art and finding a competent wheel builder is just as
important as selecting parts. Rims come in 2 flavors; welded and pinned.
The former is stronger. 32 vs 36 spokes is a difference of grams and
shouldn't be an issue unless you are racing. Using brass nipples vs alloy
is sensible practice unless you are racing. Hub flange diameter
contributes to a wheels strength; the larger the flange the shorter the
spoke. For example, a Rohloff hub has a much larger flange diameter than a
regular hub. Therefore a 32 spoke wheel for this hub is far stronger than
a standard 36 spoke wheel using identical parts. At 210 pounds, I would
err on the safe and slightly heavier side by using 36 double butted spokes
(from reputable brands like DT Swiss, Wheelsmith or Sapim and brass nipples
with loctite) and an alloy rim which is welded vs pinned. If you only have
pinned rims then 36 spoke in that configuration is also fine. In ALL
cases, the correct wheel builder can build wheels that don't need to be
trued under normal riding. My disc wheels were built over a decade ago and
have over 30,000 miles of loaded RTW touring and are still true to this day.

[RBW] Bars For Sam

2021-11-06 Thread Richard Borneman
I have a 62cm Sam frame that I built up with Drop bars (Noodles) and it
just felt too big for me. I Was going to sell it but I'm thinking maybe I
should try some more upright bars before I let it go.
 I am 6'-02" with a 93cm PBH. I have a 64 cm MIT Atlantis and a 64cm Rambo
that are very comfortable for me with 10cm stem and Noodle bars.
The effective TT length is 61.5 on the Sam frame opposed to 59-60 on the
other two frames. Thinking I'd like to try Bosco or Choco bars and a
shorter stem.
I have always used drop bars. Have a set of Moustache bars that I tried
and couldn't get comfortable with. I would like to have a flat section
close to the stem so the 2 bars I mentioned look like they are the ones to
try.
Anyone else gone through this when trying to get comfortable on the newer
sloped top tube Riv frames?
Anybody have some wide Choco or Bosco bars they want to sell or trade?
I have a like new Moustache and some Noodle bars to swap.

The Wabi I've been commuting on is perfect in spirit but it's just too
small. If anyone has a frame for sale (i.e. 62-64 Quickbeam, Simpleone ~
whatever for 80cm saddle height), I'd be interested. Similarly, if anyone
can point to something else that might fit the bill, I'd appreciate it.
 The
forthcoming Roaduno looks like it would be perfect, but I'm not sure I can
hold out that long. I've got lots of single speed stuff and my commute is
short and flat so I'd really like to stick with a SS frame.

 Thanks!
 Bones

[RBW] Re: Philly Bike Expo 2021

2021-11-06 Thread Bicycle Belle Ding Ding!
I can hardly wait to hear the stories and see the photos. I’m so envious!
Maybe next year I’ll go since it will only be a 10 hour drive.

Max S, I'd be interested in your SimpleOne if Bones passes on it.

MacKenzy: Are you familiar with Marino? Are they legit, and is the
website and price list up to date? I ask because this jumped out at me:

*Description: A full custom geometry TIG welded frame starts at
US$280. Building time frame: 14 weeks*

Is that a typo, and should it be $2800? Or are these prices from 2005?
I'd immediately guess "yes" except, look at the prices he quotes for
 *worldwide* frame shipping! $110 for 1, $150 for 2.

 Can you say? Anyone else?

He seems to offer frames for 700C X 3" wheels, and that's what I'm
hoping to get in replacement for the Monocog so I can use the true 3"
 width
of the WTB Rangers (currently at about 71 mm on the skinny 24 mm ED Alex
 rims).

 Thanks.
