Re: [RBW] Re: Craigslist (and others) Bikes For Sale: 3

2022-07-02 Thread Patrick Moore
I have to say -- and I bear conscientiously in mind that others have their
own standards for bike fit and comfort; but I have to say that the bar and
stem juxtaposed with that particular bike make me wince. I personally would
think very hard about a sweepback bar -- or another bike entirely --
instead.

Why? The stem and bar show that the rider needs a setup that this
frame/bike is not designed to give.

Over and out.

Patrick Moore, whose first 26" wheel road custom was designed around the
All Rounder model (steepened angles, road tubing and lugs) -- anecdote,
boring, avoid if sensitive: I talked to Grant in early 4th Q 1994 and said:
"I want a bike for road riding that rides better than my 1992 XO-1." Grant
said: "Oh, it'll be better." And so it was. But the result was a 54 cm st
c-c (for me, who was measured for 60cm level-tube c-c by a pro). Later,
having received, ridden, and been delighted by the bike, I told Grant: "I'm
going to announce my size on the iBoblist." Grant said, "Don't you dare."

[RBW] Re: Craigslist (and others) Bikes For Sale: 3

2022-07-02 Thread Ryan
2003 might be the wrong year all right, but the 1997 All-Rounder I own has
much plainer lugs and is Waterford-built. And it doesn't have that
reinforcing collar on the head tube. I think you're right, Joe , that it
looks like an all-rounder, but maybe one from the late 1990's /early 2000
when they were semi-custom?

Unless there was some catastrophe of some kind, if it is indeed a full
custom, I can't see a JB paint job needing a repaint after a year. I am
pretty sure anyone who orders a custom with the aforesaid expensive JB
paint job is going to devote a lot of time thinking about the color. I know
I did. And I know you did, too. If I was a prospective buyer ,I'd sure want
to know what prompted the repaint

Nice bike but I don't think the "2003 custom" title is accurate, especially
as he says it was repainted only a year later. I believe it's a mid-'90s
Waterford All Rounder.

Re: [RBW] To My Platypus People!

2022-07-02 Thread Lance Terry
Hey Christian,
The Platy is looking great. I had a Mark's rack on the front for a short
bit and had my light mounted on the front eyelet. It worked great because
it got the light out ahead of most of the tire. I can't tell though if that
rack has a front eyelet. The nice thing about that light is you can loosen
the mount and turn it to mount upside down or sideways.

[RBW] Re: Paint codes for Lime-Olive, Mustard Clem, XO-1 burnt orange?

2022-07-02 Thread Ray Varella
Max,
There are a few current model cars on the road with paint very close to the
lime olive, or “sublime olive” as I like to call it.
I was behind a Hyundai Venue the other day with a really nice green and
there are a couple other brands with similar shades.

I recall reading something from Rivendell that said paint codes from Taiwan
did not match paint codes in the U.S. and exact matches might not be
possible.

Getting the paint code from a car model is pretty straight forward.

Good luck

Ray
