[RBW] Re: What's up with welded Nitto parts?

2023-01-30 Thread Eric Marth
Circles and Blue Lug ship to the US super, super fast. As I mentioned
recently on iBOB, I typically receive packages from BL and Circles in fewer
days than I do from Rivendell.

Sim Works is the in-house brand of Circles, they have stuff custom run
mostly by other manufacturers, many in Japan. They have a US office in
Portland, Oregon located inside the Chris King manufacturing warehouse.

It makes sense to me that these super shops in Japan have an easier time
stocking Nitto products, especially the odd and esoteric ones. There are
certain stems, racks and other bits I haven't seen at any US bike shops.

If you're ever looking for Nitto parts it's always a good idea to check BL
and Circles. There might be other good shops, too, I just don't know of
them... yet!

Thank you Jeff for sharing. Eric had mentioned Circles bike shop in his
MB-2 build, so I appreciate the link.

Is it just me or is it kind of crazy that we have to search the world over
to find a particular bike part It shouldn't have to be this hard to
find current production parts. I could understand if it were some odd,
vintage part that was out of production for decades, but really, production
parts not available in the US. Ugh, rant off.

[RBW] FS: Bassi bikes Le Montreal (medium income sub for Riv Roadini?)

2023-01-30 Thread Ahmed Elgasseir
Hi All,
I am thinning the herd to make cash for a new build . Up for sale is a
perfect condition barely ridden Bassi Bikes “Le Montreal” with upgraded
wheels, tires, and pedals.
55cm 650b like new. I’ve only ridden it a few times. Covid impulse buy.
Purchased brand new directly from C Cycles and shipped to me.
Upgraded Velocity wheels, MKS pedals, and sweet Panaracer tan wall tires
for that look. Light, all steel, fast, and elegant. $1350 or best offer. I
prefer local (SF Bay Area)

[RBW] Re: Nice Rivendell, Goodrich and Sevens for Sale

2023-01-30 Thread 'William Watson' via RBW Owners Bunch
I can’t help with the story of the Goodrich, but I can say I have a
randonneur that he made and it’s lovely, definitely my favorite ride. I
agree the triple and braze-ons for a rear rack but no low rider fronts or
3rd water bottle boss seem to mean sport touring. I bet it’s awesome.

Curt’s no longer building frames, but I bet if you emailed him with the
serial number he could let you know the dimensions and the build
intentions. Also, to decipher if it’s under his brand or riv, mine has CG
in the serial number. So that might be a good, simple clue.

Not sure if I can help more, but it’s cool bike and there’s not many out
there.

[RBW] Re: Nice Rivendell, Goodrich and Sevens for Sale

2023-01-30 Thread Matt Isaacs
FYI, I think is the same guy who was selling a couple Riv frames for a
deceased friend back in November. A Roadeo custom painted sage green and a
Heron custom painted by Joe Bell. If so, the seller has a very active ebay
account selling vintage motorcycle stuff and has a good seller rating.

[RBW] Re: ISO: Toyo Atlantis

2023-01-30 Thread SPC
I have a Toyo Atlantis. It is, I think, a 58. I bought it from someone
local to me and it is just too big for me. I have an 83PBH and stand over
height is about the same. I am going off the geo chart I found on
cyclofiend.com. It is 700c. Let me know if you’d like me to grab some
measurements or pictures etc. I am open to selling the frame set or
complete if you think the size is ok for you.

Re: [RBW] Re: Gus and Susie ride off into the sunset

2023-01-30 Thread Steve
Ron, judging from the pic your Gus looks to be one of filet brazed models?
Nicely done build! I've been thinking about a Homer, but more and more the
ATB qualities of the Gus/Susie and even the Platypus are looking
attractive, and I think would be a better successor for my hard tail carbon
fiber MTB that I've decided to part ways with.

Fair point(s). As you can imagine, the full suspension bike has a
pretty high bb, though not as high as current comparable bikes. I rarely
experienced pedal strokes even pedaling through stuff that at my age I
 probably should not be doing!:)
I just looked at available solutions & thought it might be beneficial
to shorten the cranks on the Gus to approximate the clearance I enjoyed on
the suspension bike. To do so would require a 550mm crank arm.
To be honest, I had one particular & disconcerting pedal strike riding
the Clem that really got my attention. This was a very familiar sweeping
turn but off camber section that I always pedal through. The pedal dug
 into
the uphill side of the bank & I nearly crashed. It was just so unexpected.
I’ve accepted the notion that I may have to ride a bit slower & less
aggressive than I am used to. But to the degree that I can minimize these
things with the right choice now seems smart.

of your own personal skill level. If you’re getting lots of strikes with
say, a 170mm or 165mm crank, I wouldn’t be confident that going even
shorter than that is going to necessarily solve your issue.

Legit question. I am moving from a full suspension trail bike to the

trail experience on the Clem otherwise. I realize the Gus has a slightly
higher BB than the Clem & the Gus is 29 x 2.6. So yes, I am trying to be
mitigate possible problems. I like the Silver crank on the Clem but I will
likely use a 165mm Crank on the Gus. But, I am watching with keen interest

And yes, I know technique comes into play here, and I am looking

Throw some masking tape over a flat head or whatever you use to spread the
stem to prevent scratches. I didn’t find the towel rack bars tight to get
on a nitto dirt drop stem, but your experience may vary.

Unfortunately, it was just a short trail … and I’m sure the skiers were happy

Agreed! I have a green Sam being built up in Los Angeles for me, and as much as
I enjoy winter riding, I’m looking forward to getting to LA in March and
enjoying my new Sam in some warmer weather :-)

Wow, such a beautiful valley! The snow bank your bike is in makes me think of
the biggest problem I have with winter riding, which is that the roads get a
lot narrower so the cars get closer.
