[RBW] Re: First ride on Clem

2024-06-13 Thread Joe Bernard
It's a perfect bicycle. I have a Riv Custom and I can't say my Clem is *better,
*but it's such a wonderful bike that sometimes I prefer riding it. It does
a relaxed "just look around and enjoy" thing that's hard to explain if you
haven't ridden one.

Re: [RBW] Roadini - Seatpost Bolt/Nut (need to replace)

2024-06-13 Thread Chester
Jay wrote:

That’s right. M6, 22mm, thread pitch 1. Nylon insert hex lock nut.

With the Clem L I bought, there was a weird defect in the hex nut, with it
having extra metal material inside the donut hole, ruining/covering up some
of the threads, and this ruined the initial threads of the bolt, as well,
so there was no way to tighten the seat clamp with the bolt/nut pair it
came with.

Sorted it out after a couple trips to the local Ace Hardware and their
Drawers o' Fasteners. They didn't have quite the right length (I had to get
longer) so I didn't note the length of what I got, but ended up with M6 and
thread pitch of 1 as well.

Turns out that the Clem Complete page specifies "It uses standard hardware
store bolt (M6 x 22) and a 10mm hex nut." The Roadini page suggests that
one could use M5 as well.

I ride the Clem sometimes and have been meaning to try to find a
countersunk washer that is small enough diameter to fit inside but is yet
tall enough that I could use a quick release and not scratch up the paint
of the seat binder.

scenic views of the bay and some nice food in Tiburon.

Piaw's ride in the Headlands should be considered (the hill up Conzelman
Rd. is worth it!) in part because the best view of San Francisco is from
this ride. You look down onto the bridge and city from an old army gun
bunker (or whatever you call it). A lot of times you may not see the city,
but the bridge is sunny and poking out of the fog and that is just as
beautiful.

Railroad grade up Mt. Tam is nice too, the only thing to watch out for is
traffic as it can get congested during the weekends. I usually descend the
railroad grade and go up the fire road (very doable with any bike, but I
recommend 30 mm tires or wider). I can give you GPS data on that ride too
(if desired)--the special treat in addition to the views is a stop at the
"pancake place" as I call it. West point inn. Here's a writeup from a
hiker, but you can see all the bikes there. (No road bikes pictured, but
there is a kiddy Mtn bike, so you know it can't be too hard :).)

I love my neighborhood hardware store, but they don’t always have the best selection of metric stuff. I’ve found Bolt Depot to be a really good resource online for metric bolts and bits. [RBW] FS: Ripton Men's Shorts Size 32

2024-06-13 Thread Conway Bennett
I bought the shorts linked below in the Spring, and they are too big and
too stretchy for my palette--I think that the waists feel more like a 33 or
34. The canvas hunter shorts have been worn and washed once, and the black
diesel jorts are new with tags. I will sell both for $85 net-to-me,
shipped.

Thanks in advance.

I'd try the Face Plater first, you'll know pretty quick how much further
forward you'll need those very-different-from-stache bars. Fortunately the
Face Plater is open clamp so you can test mount without scratching things

I have no doubt that your excitement is both evident and refreshing for the

Portland again - such a fun trip and multi-modal travel by train and bike
is the BEST. Nothing else compares.

2024-06-13 Thread Rich Lesnik
Time to let my Waterford-built Roadeo go, I'm afraid. With advancing age,
it's just not comfortable any more! I'm putting a link to the web page
describing the bike, with lots of photos. There are some significant
changes to the cockpit, and a different rear derailleur. Otherwise, as
pictured (no bag, saddle or pedals, though).

Some features:
Ritchey Logic double crank, set up "wide-low" (48/38)
White Industries anodized red T11 hubs, Velocity A23 rims, also anodized
red. Black spokes/nipples. 32 spokes front and rear
Albatross bars, with a Silver2 bar-end shifter for the rear. Simplex
downtube shifter for front.
I also have an alternate cockpit: Albastache bar, Shimano brake levers,
brown shellacked tape.

Asking $2800.

[RBW] Re: Replacing Albastache with Losco

2024-06-13 Thread JohnS
Hello JS,

In this case, switching to the losco bar which have no forward sweep and
have a lot of back sweep, it maybe a good idea to follow Will's advice to
use an adapter stem, 1 to 1 1/8 and then try different thread less stems
until you dial in the extension to your liking. Details were in this news
letter:

https://us7.campaign-archive.com/?u=ad1569fa93a2ab2374ead2fde&id=bec688021e

FWIW, Velo Orange is having a sale on silver thread less stems which I've
used in the past and think look very nice. The stems with 6 degree rise can
be mounted upside down to be 0 rise.

https://velo-orange.com/products/threadless-stem-25-4

Good luck,
JohnS

>From the 4/26 email newsletter-
The Roaduno colors that *will* be available are: *Silver, Purple, and
Mustard*. Silver will sell out first, but blessed be the flexible who get
whichever is available in their size; they all look good, and keep in mind
that our photos never do the colors justice. Mustard is the most toned down
but it has a little sparkle in the sun and looks fantastic once it's dusty
and well used. It would be nuts to expect everybody to like Purple, but if
you could see it in person I'm sure we could convince everybody who's on or
even near the fence to get one.

That's a lovely setup, Bill! It's reassuring to know the 3x1 setup works
well.

After 6 months with my Platypus, I find myself lusting after a single-speed

the pre-sale for the Roaduno. I was informed the Roaduno pre-sale will be
taking place two weeks from now, Jun 27th. Now I find myself wondering what
colors will be offered :)

[RBW] Dust caps on Clem hubs

2024-06-13 Thread Bruce Byker James
Hi, Does anyone know if the dust caps on Clem hubs are meant to spin with
the hub or stay stationary? I had a high-frequency noise coming from my
front wheel for a while that I finally looked into and found that it was
the dust cap rubbing on the hub. I put some oil between the cap and the hub
and that stopped the noise. Then, as if the two hubs communicate with one
another, my rear hub started making THE SAME NOISE.

Just figured I'd ask here what the intended function is before getting into
it further, in case someone else has already driven themselves crazy with
this.

Thanks,

- Bruce

Wow that's amazing. I had a bike on a luggage car once from NYC to
Richmond, Va., and it was similar service. I should have mentioned that.

[RBW] Re: revisted topic: plestcher double leg kickstands (not) fitting on rivs

2024-06-13 Thread Edwin W
Like Tom, I give the outer leg a little nudge when I fold the twin legged
on my Joe Appa with 50mm tires so that it does not rub.

I have always been a fan of kickstands in general, as well as fenders,
racks and lights on all bikes, but honestly I have been using my kickstand
a lot less lately! It is rare that there is nothing to lean it against AND
I want to stop AND I want my bike upright.

[RBW] Roadini - Seatpost Bolt/Nut (need to replace)

2024-06-13 Thread Jay
Hi everyone,

I guess I've over-tightened the bolt on my Roadini as it's spinning without
much torque. When I took out the bolt there were some loose threads that I
peeled away.

I need to buy a new one and wanted to know if someone has the 'specs' so
when I go to my hardware store I can find what I'm looking for (diameter,
thread details?, length)...I know I can either measure this, or bring it in
and figure it out, but it may be easier to have in advance and line of the
specs. Or maybe there are options? I would still like to use a hex wrench
(5) vs. another style of bolt head.

Thanks!

Well, I'm biased, but that is certainly one of my favorite colors ever.
I was stoked when Roger gave me the sample tube with that color on it.
 Even
in the fluorescent lights of their shop I could tell it was a winner.

That said, the color of the Heron prototype, "soap green", which is
suspiciously like celeste, has a warm place in my heart. That frame is in

 be
 matching the color.
