I didn't see the color listed, so I contacted the seller and they said they
did have it. They had me pick another color and write what I wanted in the
comments. Sure enough it arrived as stated, and very affordable. However, I
have not used it yet. If I remember, I will try it out tomorrow and write
back.

[RBW] Re: Centerpull/Cantilever brakes and saddle bags

2018-12-18 Thread Cody Bartz
With large bags there is a good chance that it will rub the brake cable.
However, maybe if it is large enough to rest on a rear rack it may not. I
don't have experience with really large bags. I have a Sackville Small,
which is fairly large compared to normal saddlebags, and it rubs. I do have
a lot of space between my saddle and rack/tire though. I haven't used the
bag enough for it to do any damage. It makes marks on the bag, but hasn't
hurt the fabric. Smaller bags, such as a banana bag, don't rub as it stops
above the cable hanger.

I have been curious about this Nitto saddlebag wire guard (Riv link below)
https://www.rivbike.com/products/nitto-wire-guard-20189

Acorn sells this product to help with this issue:
https://www.acornbags.com/collections/accessories-all/products/leather-stand-off-with-strap

Another option is a bag support:

[RBW] Re: Winter wool baselayer rec needed

2018-11-12 Thread Cody Bartz
150 weight sounds a bit light for your temperatures, however if you have a
full windbreaker and keep active it may be fine. I would guess 200 - 250
weight would possibly be a good weight for you. Quarter zip with a collar
is a great combination, as unzipped with the neck rolled back lets a lot of
air in, and zipped up with the collar up goes pretty far up the neck. I
have experience with wool products from Ibex, Icebreaker, Patagonia, and
Smartwool - all work well. The thinner weights do seem to wear out more
quickly.

[RBW] WTB: Hillborne in Sage Color, 62cm or 64cm

2018-08-22 Thread Cody Bartz
Hello all!

I have followed the group for a while. In 2010, in college, I bought my
first "serious" dependable bike, a Surly Long Haul Trucker. A friend of
mine owned a Hunqapillar, and I was always envious. She introduced me to
Rivendell. Over the years I have bought a number of parts and accessories,
always wanting a Riv. I am tempted to buy new, but wanted to put some
feelers out to see if anyone was getting rid of a large Hillborne, ideally
in the Sage color.

: )
