seriously, i could give nat's ass, but the response to my ride in the 
healdsburg from ? regarding my typing skills is  B.S.. i am a retired real 
estate developer with an economics degree from cal. your friend should think a 
little before he tries to embolden his education stasis. i really enjoy my 
riv's and grant and the guys and gals at riv, but some of the riv riders are 
just too much. the reality is that i don't race, but i will never  ride with 
many of the riv folks. but, i don't get a big charge of making fun of them. 
and, believe me, riv owners are an easy target.

i have to comment on this. my rivendell( 59cm roadeo) has a very short distance 
from the bb to the front axle, actually shorter than many mcrb's. as a 
result, i suffer from tco. i don't care. the ride and handling are superb. 
designing a bike that handles just right is an art( and there are tradeoffs).

i don't have any tech info regarding tubing. but, i sold my 60cm rambouillet 
and later bought a roadeo. the ram was overbuilt for my riding. the fit was 
perfect. the roadeo fits my riding. it just feels better on club rides( fast up 
short hills ). the stability of the ram is not missing.

i have a rival setup on my hampsten with a 50/34 crankset. i tried my friend's 
ird 12/30 cassette and it did not work very well. the sram road groups are not 
designed for low gears.don c.

Is there enough chain wrap with the Rival rear derailer to run the XX 36T 
cassette?  There's also an 11-32T XX cassette out there that you could try.  
Presuming you don't cross-chain that could work???  You could also go down one 
size to a 33T small ring, which isn't a lot of change (3%), but might be just

Sounds like you have an adequate 9s cassette already. With a Deore-ish

rear derailleur, Shimano 9s bar-ends, and a 9s chain, you may keep the

still want to go lower, then you can spring for the Sugino XD or

i have both an ebiso road and a ram. the ebiso is much stiffer than the ram. 
also, because it has old-fashioned campy rear dropouts, it is difficult to 
mount large tires. also, you could install std reach brakes, but the brake 
bridges are too close for large tires. it appears that the new roadeo is much 
more flexible than the ebiso road.don

I posed the question because I already have a Rambouillet and I've
been thinking of getting a bike with a more aggressive geometry to
built up as a fast bike. When I saw the geometry on the Roadeo I
worried that it wasn't sufficiently different from the Ram also the
cost was a bit steep, so I thought of the Ebisu Road which looks
plenty aggressive while still taking standard reach brakes and having
good tyre clearance. I'm now dreaming of an Ebisu Road with some dura-

the only thing is that the toptube is measured along its top horizontal line. 
thats after the shallow headtube is taken into consideration. and, because of 
the necessary increase in fork rake, there will be more toe clip space. it just 
seems to me that the saluki is a long bike relative to the riv traditional 
geo.

i agree about saddle position, but my case is unique. i have rotated scoliosis, 
degenerate disc disease, and severe arthritis. if i sit too upright, i put too 
much pressure on my lower back, so, i try to balance my position on my bike 
between too low and too high. i do a lot of core work and upper body work in 
the gym to compensate for my situation. everybody is different.

why isn't someone thinking about the significance of sheldon in the current 
scheme of things. i.e. physical fitness, co2, and whatever. someone should call 
the local u.s. rep from his district. sheldon has a legacy that will live on. i 
am a former golfer with back problems that decided to ride a bike in 1984 after 
watching alexi grewal win the olympic road race. i replaced golf and running 
with cycling and have never looked back. i have always appreciated sheldon's 
articles and think that they will be relevent to cycling for many years.

have talked about it a bit, and we've
