[RBW] Continental Sport Contact II 650b x 42 vs. GB/Compass 650b x 42 by riders of them both please.
Well, I haven't compared the 650 sizes, but I do have lots of riding time with the 700 versions (sport contact ii 700x42 and compass 700x44 extra light). I did a 1500 mile road tour on my sam with the sport contacts and commute daily (also on my sam) with the compass. I've found the compass to be much more of a pleasure to ride, though much more susceptible to flats. The compass makes the rough roads of Oakland feel like butter, while the sport contacts feel noticeably stiffer. Both feel about the same in terms of speed, though the handling seems lighter with the compass. I get a flat maybe once every month and a half on the compass, whereas I did not get even one flat on my tour with the sport contacts. Hope that helps! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Breaking in a leather Brooks
I've found that different Brooks saddles require different treatment to break in. My first Brooks was a B-17 flyer. This was basically comfortable right out of the box. I initially and occasionally applied proofide and it was very comfortable by ~200 miles. My second Brooks is a B17 select that I got from fellow lister Will Ashe. You can check his previous posts about not being able to break it in despite a year of riding and 1000 or more miles. I can say that Will was not exaggerating. This thing felt (and sounded) like a hard piece of wood. I tried proofide plus 100 miles and found no improvement. I decided to go nuclear and used the Sheldon Brown neatsfoot oil method. The saddle was immediately more comfortable, but not saggy. With 50 miles it was close to perfection. I've got maybe 700 miles on it since with no sagging. The color was completely changed, but this was definitely worth it. Nate -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
