Re: [RBW] Stolen Bleriot.
I don't know Manny, other than his posts, but he must be a great guy based on the 5- 10 folks that have made parts offers. If it were a local guy that I knew someone who needed this type of help I , also, would offer to help. Maybe I'm wrong, but I get the impression that he can afford to buy a new/used replacement nor has he asked for assistance - other than helping to locate the stolen bike. This is certainly not in anyway a negative statement towards or about Manny. I hope I could be the same type of person that had friends that would offer to do this but, damn, there are organizations in every community that refurbish bikes for homeless and poor kids that actually need our spare parts. Re: [RBW] Re: Noticed anything different about front bag handling
and before anyone mentions it: fenders would solve this problem but here in Kentucky (and it probably applies to the folks in Texas) we normally don't use fenders because we normally don't need them - except on rare occasions when it rains really really hard. Re: [RBW] Re: Noticed anything different about front bag handling
I agree and I forgot to mention that my Homer also lets it's front wheel flop over when parked but is very stable with the Berthoud bag at any speed - except zero. I run 700cm wheels and 28mm Conti 4 Season tires. A funny side note: on PBP on the return, I stopped to pee. I had the bike behind me (supported by my butt) when the front wheel flopped and the chin ring hit my calf and left a beautiful scar. It looked like a bear had clawed me (about one to two inches of blood from each of the four puncture wounds). I had riders in three languages ask me what the hell happened. It's healed quickly and was never a problem on the ride but I'm thinking of getting a similar tattoo. Way cool! By the way, love the Berthoud 22 front bag. It's one of their smaller ones but it's allowed me to carry everything I could possibly need on a 1200 K brevet. I love the various pockets on the front, side, and rear. They let me organize, bars, gels, pills, salves, etc. and leave the main conpartment for extra cloths, rain jacket, mini pump, etc. I also chose the Berthoud 22 because it sits slightly below the handlebars. My generator light is on the handle bars and it illuminates the cue sheet as well as the road. Placing the light on the handle bars also protects it from heavy rain spray. Of course it still gets wet but I've seen too many failures on local brevets here in Kentucky as well as on the Texas 1200k because the lights are lower and were bombarded by road and wheel spray. Re: [RBW] Noticed anything different about front bag handling
I have a 57cm Hilsen with a Mark's rack and I have used a Berthoud 22 bag on the Texas Rando Stampede 1200k and on PBP and the bike handled fine. I purchased the bag from Rene Herse. Mike Kone adds a stiffener to the bag that really helps it hold it's shape. You will have to sew on a strap to the bottom of the bag in order to attach it securely to the rack. Not a big deal but that seems to be a design flaw - maybe the newer Berthoud bags have solved this. By the way, Mike is great to deal with - he may even finish building my Rene Herse bike one of these years ;-) Bill Louisville, Ky On Nov 18, 2011, at 9:50 PM, Shifty wrote: > So, I was just about to plunk down a couple of hundred dollars on a Berthoud > front bag at Rene Herse. Re: [RBW] Rebuilt Rambouillet: perfect for a Fall ride
The orange Rambouillet has always been my favorite. By the time I was ready to buy one, Riv was painting them that hideous (in my opinion) light blue. Finally got one when they were green - my second favorite color. When I got Homer, I got it in the Ram orange. By the way, nice build. Re: [RBW] Re: On shipping bike parts to our two finest states
It really depends on where in Chicago. In areas where UPS thinks it's safe to leave a package they will. If they think there's a reasonable chance of theft they will not leave it. I can think of two solutions: Leave a note for the driver that you'll pick it up at the UPS facility. If the UPS facility is not convenient then check with the local UPS Store (they're everywhere) and have it delivered there for pickup. First check ti see what they charge you for this. Re: [RBW] Re: Yoga; was [RBW ]
The bottom line isall yoga is good - just do it (I heard that somewhere). Oh, and this may not be a good advertisement for Bikram yoga, but those 6 miles after yoga may take a little longer. Re: [RBW] Re: Yoga; was [RBW ]
What's a little more heat in NM? Seriously, Bikram Yoga may initially seem a little harder than other types of yoga becauseit is. It's hot in there! It actually takes a few classes to get used to the heat and your instructor will probably tell you to take it slow and simply lay down and rest if the heat is getting to you. The trick for the first 2 or 3 sessions is to stay in the room for the entire class and just get used to the heat. The advantages to Bikram, in my opinion, is that the heat helps to loosen the muscles and that allows you to stretch a little further. I've also found that after a session you come out of the room with that feeling of total relaxation - similar to coming out of a sauna. I've come to this thread a little late so I apologize if this is a rehash. Anyway, try it, give it a chance and I think you'll like it. Bill - whose wife is a Bikram instructor. Re: [RBW] Re: Informal Tall Riders Group: What is the best vehicle for hauling your bike?
That's what I've been looking for! Please let us, (forget them, tell only me), know if the single unit works with fenders. What's the brand/web site?
