I second the thanks to James and the gang at G&G. It was a fun event with lots
of bikes and gear to look at. I was there in the morning and enjoyed talking
to James and several other folks, including fellow Bleriot owner QKSLVR66. G&G
carries many bikes and items that aren't necessarily shown on their website, so
it's definitely worth the trip to check it out. The waffles looked tasty but I
didn't have one today. Coffee was great. Thanks, Steve

I'm looking forward to this event and plan be there in the morning,
probably late morning. Will not be selling or showing a bike, but looking
forward to seeing the store and meeting folks. Is anyone selling a bag?
I'm in the market for something like a Carradice Barley. Advance notice
wouldn't hurt, right? See you there,

Hey folks, we’re doing this swap rain or shine. If you are displaying
stuff and have an EZ up, bring it, if you don’t have one, no worries, we’ll
stick you inside the shop.

The ride after the swap won’t happen if its pouring, but if its lightly
raining it’s on, or just wet out.

2015-09-10 Thread Gravel & Grind Espresso + Bikes
There are a bunch of great dirt roads worth exploring up this way if you
are looking for something a bit off the beaten path. The covered bridges
are great but they are the tip of the iceberg in terms of good riding up
this way. The backroads have less traffic, more good climbs, bigger
views... just have to be willing to climb! I can get cue sheets from
30-100 miles going for anyone interested in combining the swap and a big
ride. You can access it all right from the shop and there is free street
parking Sundays in Frederick. Email me: james@graveandgrind (dot) com

[RBW] Re: Classic Bike Show + Swap Meet in Frederick MD @ Gravel & Grind, Sept 27th

2015-09-07 Thread Alan Pickett
Hey Tony -

Was not an "organized" ride, but rather I and a few friends used one of the
cue-sheets posted on the Frederick pedalers website, and I see dozens of
cue sheets linked on their site, of varying lengths, several of which
involve covered bridges. This particular ride is really just lightly
rolling terrain around emmitsburg. I do believe that the Frederic Pedalers
announce group rides on a regular basis, but I have not yet participated.

A couple of weeks ago, I rode to Gettysburg from the Utica Park parking lot
using another of the cue sheets, and it was pretty sublime just quietly
rolling into the town - the cue sheet took us past many of the places
included on guided tours - as opposed to on a tour bus. All of the roads
are paved, and when we encountered detours due to work at bridge crossings
these have been easy to improvise with gps maps. We have yet to encounter a
"bad" piece of road, and often the detours result in interesting nooks and
crannies we would never have discovered. It's all lovely scenery.

Again, not sure about elevations, but there were no monster climbs, and
nothing that couldn't be managed by dropping into low gearing, sitting up,
and taking it all in!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend,
Alan

2015-09-04 Thread Alan Pickett
I'm not sure if I will be in town on that date, but if I am, I would love
to attend.

I think the ride from DC to Gravel and Grind, if it were round trip, would
approach if not surpass a century(!), no?

Another option could be to look into some of the nearby loops in and around
Frederick, and simply use Gravel and Grind as a rally point. the Frederick
Pedalers have staked out
some nice rides. Again, not sure if I will be in town, but if so, perhaps
we can use this thread to join up in a few weeks?

By the way, tomorrow, I will be doing the Covered Bridges 50
 mile
ride with some friends, and may stop at Gravel and Grind to say hi. A
definite stop will by Volt's Family Meal :
adult milkshakes and fried chicken taste REALLY FRIGGIN' GOOD after
pedaling for 50!

Hope all are well.
Alan

[RBW] Re: Classic Bike Show + Swap Meet in Frederick MD @ Gravel & Grind, Sept 27th

2015-09-01 Thread Tony DeFilippo
Sounds like a fun day. I'm going to try and convince my wife... we've got
a wedding in Winchester the day before so we could easily divert through
Frederick on the way home. Gravel and Grind is on my hit list for visiting
anyway. Any other local-lister's thinking about attending?
