Ah! This post inspires me to emerge from the shadows-of-the-lurkers, and report that I own one Rivendell, a 56 2TT Green Hillborne, purchased just after the announcement of the new blue SH's with cream head tubes. I had really admired the look of the greens, and used their impending disappearance as a rationale to pull the trigger. I also own a completely Rivendellized Surly Cross Check (with Albatross bars, and a standard, Rivendell Gruppo ) which I rode for RAGBRAI this year. I felt that since I had used the Surly to train up for RAGBRAI that it deserved the honor of being the Main Event Bike, and it did not disappoint, a fact I attribute to the Wisdom contained in the Rivendell Readers and the good folks in this Forum. I'm experimenting with On-One Midge bars on the Hillborne at the moment, awaiting the arrival of a new dirt-drop stem, and sort of playing Dr. Frankenstein with other bits and pieces in my basement lair Alan from MD On Tuesday, October 30, 2012 3:55:17 PM UTC-4, Michael wrote: I'll start: 1 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. 3 for me: 64 Green Ram, bought in '06, fat tired and un-fendered. Closest thing to a fast bike I ride 60 Sam (green, single tube). This is probably my most ridden as of late. 62 Quickbeam I bought used. Has custom paint (was orange). I have it set up as a fixed gear. My favorite fixed gear bicycle by far. Have thought the two geared bikes could be replaced with one. An Atlantis or a Hilsen perhaps. A tough choice if I were to have to make it. I acquired it after I thought the 59cm was too big. While it worked, the 59cm worked better. I sold it to fund my Ebisu. 3. 2007? 59cm Bleriothttp://www.flickr.com/photos/franklyn/sets/72157625675713501/. I got it in late 2010 to replace my Rawland Sogn. I liked the bike, but it wasn't very good as a front loader, and I had at this point acquired a preference for front geometry that suits front load. I sold it to a friend of a friend. I currently don't have a Riv, but have a 80's Sequoiahttp://www.flickr.com/photos/franklyn/sets/72157627342403464/that many said inspired the design of perhaps the Rambouillet/Romulus. The Sequoia has slightly lighter tubings, though. I converted it to 650b and replaced the fork for one with lower trail. If I were to buy a Riv again, it would probably be a proper tourer, like the Atlantis, though i really hope it will come in 650b, as that's the only wheel size I use now. I own two, and have owned four. '99 Joe 26 wheeled fixed gofast custom 03 Curt 26 wheeled fixed runabout. This is actually almost identical to the '99 except that it has braze ons for fenders and racks. It was built as a derailleur bike -- with the world's only removable left dt shifter brazeon, because I wanted to run it as a 1X10, but I had local builder Dave Porter swap out the dropouts for Campy 1010s and now it is a fixie with no irritatingly superfluous braze ons. (Hah!) 2010? Sam HIllborne that was Riv's floor model for a while: single tt, cantis. Not a bad bike at all, but not one that fits into my personal preferred categories of use, so I sold it. '95 (ordered late '94) Waterford built, custom 26 wheeled Riv Road. This was an interesting one and I mildly wish I'd kept it: I called Grant and asked him to build me a road bike for 26 wheels that handled better than the XO-1. He said, it will handle better and sho' 'nuff it did. It was sized and based roughly on the then current All Rounder model, but with tweaked geometry and road tubing (tout 753) and road lugs and the nicest biplane crown. I later hacked it up (very nicely) to make it into a dedicated fixed gear commuter and then sold it. It would still make a very nice beater for those occasions when I want to lock a bike up outside in a more chancy neighborhood than is my usual wont. What I would like to add: Ram or Roadeo; probably Ram. Atlantis for touring (Fargo to off road only) or Hunq for off road. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Re: [RBW] Re: How many Rivendell bicycles have you owned?
Forgot to add, as expected: The '94 was a nice bike but nothing at all compared to the later two customs which are far better in every way including handling. Aside: Every time I think of converting the '99 gofast to a multispeed with bags, fenders, lights and so on -- was just pondering the possibility again the other day -- I ride it up a few hills as I did this afternoon and -- well, it goes up hills better than any bike I've owned; better than the other Riv. I may just get a S3X wheelset as a spare. On Tue, Oct 30, 2012 at 5:23 PM, PATRICK MOORE bertin...@gmail.com wrote: I own two, and have owned four. -- - Patrick Moore, Albuquerque, NM, USA For professional resumes, contact Patrick Moore, ACRW http://resumespecialties.com/index.html - -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Re: [RBW] Re: How many Rivendell bicycles have you owned?
I'll come out of the woodwork to join this thread: Three total. 56 Atlantis too small, but with Albatross bars it was rideable. Sold 56 Sam Hillborne. One of the first with the longer top tube. That made it fit right in reach, but the frame was probably otherwise too small. Now also sold. 60 SimpleOne. Still around. For now. 2. 2007-ish 59cm Hilsen. Third owner. Couldn't be happier with it. Well...maybe if it could fit wider tires, that'd be perfect. http://www.flickr.com/photos/69091655@N08/7918042316/in/set-72157631376757052 2000-ish 56cm Atlantis. Third owner. Traded for Hilsen because it was a tad too small. Miss the tire clearance dearly. And color. http://www.flickr.com/photos/69091655@N08/7174996127/in/photostream/ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: How many Rivendell bicycles have you owned?
I own twoa 56cm Hillborne (the all Green one) and a 60cm SimpleOne butI would sell them off for a 58cm Atlantis frame. I only need one good bicycle and at my weight I need a beefier frame either a 'Hunk' or an Atlantis which I prefer Aesthetically. This would replace my Surly Trucker frame which seems to be perfect for me as far as tire size options and frame strength etc. only problem its not a Riv and not lugged. We have two, my 1996 All-Rounder (which saw about 90% of my riding this year) and my wife's Heron Road, not sure what year I surprised her with that for Christmas. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Re: [RBW] Re: How many Rivendell bicycles have you owned?
Two: 2009 A.Homer Hilsen - 59cm bought from riv as a frame special in copper. Love it and about dialed in now with 42cm Noodles 2012 Hunqapillar - 54cm bought from riv. I built both from frame/fork, and they have gone through 3-10 revisions so far. I'm learning :) Both are very different in weight and capacity, but both feel like they are on rails, and are the best bikes I've ever ridden.. Just ordered a Medium SaddleSack for my b-day so I can put my tools in the side pockets and use the main compartment for commuting (iPad, tshirt, socks, occasional extras. Soon to put the Small SaddleSack up for sale?
