[RBW] Re: Nitto Big Front Rack fitting issue
That's just brilliant, John. I'm a little embarrassed I didn't think of it myself. Thanks for the insight. I was able to mount the Big Rack to my Bombadil using Nitto hardware skipping the p clamps: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cnyriv/8477467738/in/photostream On Wednesday, February 13, 2013 10:35:25 PM UTC-5, Scot Brooks wrote: > > Here are some images showing the fitment. Righteous. Be sure to share the results--really have enjoyed the attention to detail in your builds. Joe, that looks absolutely perfect for my needs. Looks like a perfect candidate for Alex Wetmore's elegant hack: http://www.phred.org/~alex/pictures/bikes/jandd-triangle.jpg Two triangles of aluminum span the gap to the braze-ons, and two bolts on the slot side keeping the extension from rotating. [RBW] Re: Nitto Big Front Rack fitting issue
I agree that it would be nice to see a re-design with a vertical slot that could fit the mid-fork braze-on, on all the various Riv forks. I have the same one you have, and I'd like it even better if it fit without a p-clamp. Maybe their experience on the HA Rack will spawn a re-design. [RBW] Re: Nitto Big Front Rack fitting issue
Scot, It is possible, http://flic.kr/p/dUxFk4 (sorry for the bad picture). I've never understood what the parameters are to make it fit, my NBFR is an older one. When i tried with the p-clamps i actually didn't like how it fit. this is not a perfect situation though, having it canted far enough back to mount to the eyeles makes adjustment of canti brakes quite difficult (if you need to tighten the canti-bolts, or need to make straddle adjustments). i guess with side-pulls it would be a little easier but then getting to the center bolt would require a shorter l-wrench. just for info this is a 1st gen, single-tt 56cm sam. the fork only has a single lower eyelet at the bottom so the rack is bolted there and i have fenders mounted to the rack itself. this front rack does not have the 3 holes at the bottom like the newer ones. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: Nitto Big Front Rack fitting issue
Shoji, Mine is a 60cm 700c side puller. I did see the video, but thought a bike with the high rider eyelets would line up perfectly since that seems to be the Nitto way. I can post a pic tonight after work and you can see my Frankenstein screw/washer/spacer concoction I came up with. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. And here's a pic from Renaissance Bicycles of that Sam+Big Front Rack http://www.renaissancebicycles.com/images/rivendell/pratiks_touring_sam_hillborne/hillborne-nitto-racks.jpg Maybe a pic of yours, Scot? Did Riv move the placement of the mid-fork attachment? Is this is sidepull vs canti difference or maybe 650b vs 700 difference? BTW: the Bombadil on the Riv install video (http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/r5.htm) has mid-fork brazeons, but Mark's installing the rack with p-clamps.
