I love my bikes but haven't drunk any cool aide yet ;)

The other frequent criticism is that RBW are overpriced. I have found mine
to be extremely good value for how often I use them. I suspect the haters
spend as much, if not more, on bikes and accessories than I do. Also, a
point that inevitably comes up during these forum wars is that RBW bikes
tend to hold their value better than others. Not that I will sell anytime
soon, particularly since the San Marcos has been discontinued and they no
longer make the Appaloosa in my size.

They are stable, beautiful bikes that are great fun to ride. That is all I
wanted.

What drives me crazy about these kinds of threads on cycling forums is when
people call Riv Riders a cult. If you like a certain type of bike, riding and
riding gear, you're going to gravitate to a company and group of riders who
like the same stuff.

And consider this: The people calling it a cult are wearing identical spandex
on identical carbon bikes ;-)

I'm not sure how I would feel if people wrote about me like that. I found
the posts ridiculously over the top in proportion your niche in the bike
world and advocacy for steel bikes. The first thread I found seemed to
have an undercurrent of affection with some of the posts, the later one,
not so much. I didn't participate in the threads and now that I know your
feelings on the matter, I won't in the future. You did talk to me once a
few months ago when I called with questions about a frame (which I ended up
getting). You were super nice to me and I found you to be the opposite of
pretentious. In fact, part of our conversation involved you trying really
hard to get me to quit calling you "sir" as I tried explaining I was
military and it pretty strongly ingrained.

RBW did give me the two best bikes I've ever had and has me out riding
every day.

And Brian Campbell explained the Grant Petersen mockery as a way to diffuse
the Riv hate in some forums.
It's a pretty good application of the Bill Brasky absurdity.
