[RBW] Re: Rivendell sightings

2015-11-08 Thread Bruce Smitham
That's really cool. I don't see many around here in San Diego. If I do see
a Riv occasionally but they kind of keep quiet and to themselves. Primarily
I see a lot of road/tri riders up and down the coast racing each other,
running stop signs and lights to keep their Strava times down. All the
stores on the coast cater to them. I also frequently see bike touring folk
heading south and ending their journeys so that's kind of neat. I chat with
them whenever I can.

2015-11-08 Thread KC
Aw, I was hoping to see my orange Cheviot included in the sightings. Had a
great ride Saturday from the Richmond Bay area to Berkeley for lunch, then
around the Bay Trail. Such a beautiful day. We don't get to have rides like
that without generally starting off with a car trip, so really enjoy it.

Driving south now and sad to be leaving, but thx to a list member i have a set
of rock n roads to test out now so have to think about where to go on them.

This is easy to fix. Get pitlocks for the wheels, a piitstopper for the
bars and seat, a micro U-lock (Abus) for the frame. Total cost, less than
$200. Security = 100%. Nobody will get your bike.

That sounds pretty good and what I'm willing to do/carry but I'd say that's

[RBW] Re: Rivendell sightings

2015-11-08 Thread Tom Virgil
Hello Bruce and valued member of the Smitham family.

I believe I see you from time to time on Carmel Valley Road between I5 and
the coast. I am usually returning from science park up in Torrey Pines (in
a car) where I now work after something of a career change. That's another
topic. I have seen your father once on Carmel Creek Road (hat under
helmet is pretty unique, but wise if he is dealing with a dermatologist. I
understand that). Out on the 56 bikeway I am riding a powder blue Sam
with cream trim and magenta handlebar tape, or my merlot (thought you might
like that) Boulder All Road. Hugh has road tested the All Road and seemed
to come away with a good opinion.

I recently returned to gmail and saw some old email about an ebike for
Bruce Sr. My sincere apology for not being responsive. If you or your
father would like to try one, let me know, I have one. It's not for sale,
so no guile here, but there are ways of watching the sales at TREK and
getting a substantial discount. I use mine for riding to work and riding
in street clothes without sweating out the bike garb.

I am over in Santa Fe Summit, but way down on the last street before
Gonzales Canyon. Great access to the canyon but a lung buster to come up
Sword and the rest of the world. Come on down or i will come up and let's
ride.

Best regards,

Tom

[RBW] Re: Rivendell sightings

2015-11-09 Thread Will
Don't think so. The mini-Abus is a serious deterrent. The U piece does not
rotate like the other brands. One has to cut both sides of the U bar to
free the bike. And the pits make removing wheels or adjusting the seat
almost impossible. If you put a pit-stopper in the stem bolt, they can't
remove/adjust the bars. Even if one defeats the Abus... re-sale incentive
is quite poor: can't fix a flat, can't adjust the cockpit. There's no
reason for a thief to want a bike they cannot sell.

do it. My number is (310) 968-6910 and I live on the east side of Carmel
