2018-10-21 Thread Lum Gim Fong
UPDATE:
Thanks for the recommendations.
I got an orange SKS Renkompressor.
Works great and very nicely built!
Easy on/off of presta and Schrader valves and shoots in surprisingly large
volume of air per stroke.

[RBW] Re: What do Rivendell Riders use for floor pumps?

2018-10-09 Thread Kainalu V.
Yes!, so much more convenient than a conventional floor pump!

"CONVENIENCE: Plug directly into Cigarette Lighter Socket of your Vehicle.
12VDC 10~15 amps, 120~180W"

Maybe there's some sort of hand crank powered cigarette lighter that would
make this mega super convenient?

There is!! sort of..

This would look nice if one switched out the cranks for something silver,
maybe Rene Herse?

Happy Pumping everybody

So Joe Blow and SKS Rennkompressor is getting the good votes here.

Maybe whichever one I run into in my LBS shops will be the first I grab.

[RBW] Re: What do Rivendell Riders use for floor pumps?

2018-10-02 Thread blakcloud
I have two Joe Blows, that work well and are in your price range. These are
my two go to pumps.

I also have two Silca Pistas that are both over 30 years old and still
going strong but they are not better than the JB's. I keep them for
nostalgic reasons. Plus, I think they fit the Rivendell ethos a little
better.

Last I have a Lezyne CNC Floor Drive which is out of your price range and
has the worst possible head ever designed. What a hunk of crap. I never
touch that thing. I am going to try their latest head design but it is on
back order in Canada.

I have never tried to the SKS pump but it seems to be well liked here.

A couple of weeks ago I needed air and went to a Specialized dealer and
used one of their floor pumps in the mechanics area. I don't know what
model I used but it was simple the best pump I have ever used. I would have
bought it if I didn't already have five pumps.

I have one of those basic Specialized models too, cost about $35 and I've
had it for 14-15 years, still works fine. It's better at Presta than
Schrader, but that doesn't really bother me because my fleet is all
Presta. Only thing that's Shrader is the jogging stroller, but I don't jog
anyway, so no problem.

Sorry, my comments about 'extender hose' don't make sense, I don't know how I
got stuck on that term. I need a narrow chuck to fit inbetween the spokes on
those itty bitty Brompton wheels.

I can recommend the Joe Blow Sport, too. Mine has worked great for the last
3-or-so years I've owned it, but now I need something with an extender hose.

Btw, the more expensive Joe Blow with the fancy head was a headache. It never
worked right and I eventually tossed it.

I was thinking about the new Pista since it is back on the market. But I dont
want to pay more than 60 for a floor pump. The SKS sounds good so far.

Go-to pump is a Zefal HP Husky, but I also have a classic Silca. I would still
be using the Silca that I bought back in the 1980s if it hadn’t been
accidentally left by the side of the road at a race out in the country a couple
of years ago.

Silcas have the advantage of being reparable. You can buy the leather plunger
if it wears out (or just take it out and put a little grease on it in most
cases), and the hose/chuck assembly is easily available. Take care of a
Silca—and don’t lose it—and it will last forever.
