Hi Ryan, I think we may have been in touch when I was researching the Imron
Harvest Gold color.

I'll make a new post to detail specifics since this thread isn't about the
sale of this frameset,
but to answer your question: I didn't intend to sell it but I'm trying to
reduce the amount of things I have. I have an Appaloosa and a Romulus , so
the Sam sort of sits in between them. As much as it's been with me for 13
years or so, I am resisting the pull of emotional attachment to an object.

If anyone is thinking about working with Jack at Franklin, I can strongly
recommend him. But make sure you have patience as it will take months.
thanks
Jason

Your yellow paint is surely more mustard than candy as it has a certain
 earthy/organic/softness in it's undertone.

Three cheers for Jack ! I have a custom frame from him and another one
in the works, plus he did some repair and a repaint of my Bombadil. I'm
thinking of a yellow of some sort for my new frame also, something that
conveys the deep yellows in a sunflower and compliments both the silver
 and
black of the parts and tires.

Yup...in 2001 I had my Riv Road (Curt Goodrich-built) painted Imron Harvest
Gold. Originally I thought of red and then decided on something
different...from the autumn color palette - I love fall. This was before
the color became so popular. I endured some ribbing about it being the
same color as poopy diapers, etc ., but it turned out to be a great
color which changes subtly depending on lighting(sunlight/cloud/indoors).

Your painter did a great job on that Sam. If you don't mind me asking, why

Thank you all for the compliments! It's for my one-and-only, so after
(re)building up the bike, I only took a short test ride around the block.
Everything stayed attached, nothing rattled, and the bike handled very
nicely. Single-speed, low-ish gearing, smooth and quiet. I'm divided on
 the
black-painted wheels, but am fresh out of anything silver and 135 mm

 pop more.

Re: [RBW] Re: Yves Gomez – mustardified

2022-10-03 Thread Max S
Thanks, Leah. I like Lemondrop, though I do like my mustard!

Thank you all for the compliments! It's for my one-and-only, so after
(re)building up the bike, I only took a short test ride around the block.
Everything stayed attached, nothing rattled, and the bike handled very
nicely. Single-speed, low-ish gearing, smooth and quiet. I'm divided on the
black-painted wheels, but am fresh out of anything silver and 135 mm
spaced, so this will have to do for now. I guess it makes the frame color
pop more.

Y'all the best!

2022-10-03 Thread Max S
George,
yes, luckily the shipping was via BikeFlights, who were very good about
reimbursement, all things considered. Note that reimbursement wasn't for
the total insured amount, but for the amount of repair & repaint. I had to
provide first detailed photos of the exterior of the box, the damage
itself, and the inside of the box that showed there was packing material,
etc. I also had to provide the quote for the repair / repaint, etc.

Thanks for the replies I went ahead and bought the frame! (I actually
posted this query a week ago, but for some reason my posts don't go up
right away.)

Yeah I ended up going with the Cheviot sizes as a guide, using same logic
as Larry, and I am hoping that without the TT there will be some
flexibility.

Bike is coming together nicely thus far; will report back if the fit seems
way off.

cheers,
Jack

[RBW] Re: Yves Gomez PBH range?

2015-08-21 Thread Garth
The comfort will be found in satisfactory reach and bar height Jack . PBH
on these frames is secondary .

6' tall comes in all kinds. Short torso, long torso , short legs long
legs. . . you get the idea. Really, you gots to know yourself and one's
likings . So these things you need to know .

I'm well over 6' and I myself find the front end a little too short in both
TT and head tube for my liking on Riv's step thru's , for example. A 60cm.
ST is fine though. So going by PBH alone for frame fit isn't a complete
way of fitting .

[RBW] Re: Yves Gomez PBH range?

2015-08-21 Thread Larry Charlton

I just built up a 60cm Yves Gomez for myself. I'm 6'1" and have an 89pbh.
I'm sure she'll have no problem at all with a 60.

Here's what Riv says as to fitment for the current Cheviot:

*60cm*
TYPICAL RIDER HEIGHTS: women 5'6" 1//2 to 6'2, men about 5'8.5" to 6'3".
PBH 84 to 94cm
SADDLE HEIGHT 73cm to 93cm.
You can fit a bigger Cheviot than a Homer or a Sam or Altantis or
Hunqapillar, because there's no top tube to hit your crotch.

Can't wait to see your build for her.

Congrats on ordering your Yves Gomez! It's going to look great in the

Hope you'll post a link to some pics when your YG arrives. =)

I rode a 'girls' bike all thru college. My Dad commuted on a 'girls'

off the bike, kind of stuff. Egos are over rated. My 2 cents.

I agree; the people who are going to think that you're riding a girl's
bike, are going to think that regardless of what color the frame is,
and even with the decal-"The International Man's Mixte". lol
I was originally planning on ordering the Betty, but with the Yves
head badge and decals, and with the frame painted in the Bombadil
green with cream trim. That would have been a great looking Betty/
Yves.

Get what you want! Your ego can handle it, and your hips will thank
you one day! =)

2011-04-12 Thread Geoff
About a month ago, I went to Rivendell to test ride a Betty/Yves with
the intent of ordering an Yves. I liked the ride and the mixte frame
quite a lot, but I also test rode a Hunqapillar with mustache bars and
an Atlantis with Bullmoose bars. I really liked the feel of the canti
brakes on the Hunq, and loved how natural the angle of my hands and
wrists felt on the Bullmoose bars. As a result, I ended up ordering a
Hunqapillar with the Bullmoose bars and high profile Tektro canti
brakes. My frame should arrive within the next month. I can't wait!

But you wouldn't go wrong with a Betty/Yves. Good luck with your
decision!

[RBW] Re: Yves Gomez

2011-04-11 Thread EricP
I have not with the Yves, but have been very tempted. Like others,
have too many bikes and not enough room.

Have ridden a Buena Vista. That's a tolerably good bike. In my test
ride, didn't find any problems with the bike. The one I rode was too
small for me. Otherwise, it was fine. Do believe you can run either
700C or 650B with it depending on brakes used.

2011-04-11 Thread Minh
You mean it's not cool to ride a comfortable bike :)

there are plenty of times i would love a step-through, especially if
you're using your bike for 'normal' activities, like when you're not
working out but doing everyday activities like running errands and you
want to look dress like a regular person instead of a bike person.

it's just for a different style of riding in my opinion. if i didn't
already have too many bikes (4:1 is a high ratio) one of which is
a cruiser type bike, i'd look at one. there are some sweet looking
yves and bettys on this list.

Forgetaboutit! I say if your sensitive male ego can't handle it, get
yourself a *real bike:*

[RBW] Re: Yves Gomez fenders

2009-07-21 Thread reidplum

Because those are just the standard chrome/silver-type finish. The
gold-tone (brass) finish on the Soma's is what caught my eye. Maybe
that's a market opportunity for Velo-Orange? A brass-colored
(anodized?) chrome fender for a reasonable price?

Why not some Velo-Orange aluminum fenders for about $50?

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Yes, those are the Soma brass
fenders. A set would be a perfect addition to my blue Romulus, but the
price is just a bit steep - $101! Hmmm. I will probably settle for
the less perfect Soma chromoplastic in what they call Pearl Blue. Life
is a series of compromises.

Speaking of fenders, while I remember, I notice in old photos that stage
bikes in the 1930s often had a single, front, and very abbreviated fender:
was this to keep dirt and gravel from the headset, or off one's face?

According to the website, those fenders are "brasscoated." If one-
offs, might be expensive. My Paul Taylor cross is black with ti-
colored panels and I found the Soma fenders to be a perfect match:
