Re: [RBW] Sharing Your Winter Ride Fotos 2023

2023-03-21 Thread Takashi
Paul in Dallas, judging from trees and grasses in your photo, Texas seems
to be in spring already.

Josia, that looks like a tough ride! Your Gus must be a perfect bike for
such conditions. Good luck finding your ideal setup.

Richard, another Gus photo on snow! It should be a fun bike to ride in any
season.

John, that's a beautiful place. It's surprising that there is so little
snow even in Canada.

David, I understand that you are looking forward to spring, but your bike
looks "at home" on snow, in the second photo.

Kai, looks like a chilly ride. Building Rosco with studded tires sounds
like a good idea.

Eric, that must have been a very nice ride despite headwinds. Both photos
are beautiful.

I don't think we'll have any more snow this season. Like Ted says, maybe
time to start a Spring Photo thread?

hoping to find out soon! I'm fascinated to know the process.

Well, at the risk of taking this pretty far off topic ... I have a fair
amount of experience here ... people very often overestimate their skills
and underestimate the conditions on the water. A crew of two on that boat
could pretty quickly be overwhelmed and may have had some kind of equipment
failure. In particular, if they lost their engine, couldn't set an
appropriate amount of sail, and didn't have a sea anchor, they had no
chance.

To put this sort of on topic ... it's not that far off from cycling in
challenging conditions and terrain. Knowing how to anticipate and deal with
changing conditions and keep yourself safe (and having the right equipment)
is a skillset that needs to be developed.

Removal from the beach depends on how much extra tide there was in the
storm. From the photo it looks like they will probably be able to pull the
boat back to deeper water with a normal high tide, probably waiting for a
full moon for a little extra, and hoping for not much wind. Power boat off
shore, a couple of lines to the bow, spin it so the bow is pointing out and
slide it across the sand.

Unfortunately, it was just a short trail … and I’m sure the skiers were happy
for me not to be on it much. We received another 15cm of snow after that, so I
think my tracks were covered.

Agreed! I have a green Sam being built up in Los Angeles for me, and as much as
I enjoy winter riding, I’m looking forward to getting to LA in March and
enjoying my new Sam in some warmer weather :-)

> We had some snowfall last night and today:
Wow, such a beautiful valley! The snow bank your bike is in makes me think of
the biggest problem I have with winter riding, which is that the roads get a
lot narrower so the cars get closer.

Matti, that's a nice LHT, and visiting a coast in winter is something
special.
Please post picture of your Sam when you build it up!

John,
-1c is rather warm in your area, I guess? Looks like a lovely place to
ride. Please keep posting!

Luke,
Ha! If you said the photo was taken in April I surely would have believed
it.
Like Kim said it's a spectacular view. It should be quite a workout
climbing there!

Joe,
Color of your bike looks very different in two photos.
Both look great, but especially beautiful in the morning (evening?) light!

Joe – here’s to more rain over the next two weeks! Lovely photos.

Kim – this is at the top of Hawk Hill
!

One of my least-ridden routes but a favorite nonetheless.

Yes, winter cycling is as pleasing as autumn cycling. Your Gunnar seems
to be a perfect machine to ride on dirt road!

 Nick,
That's an unbelievably beautiful image! I can almost feel crisp air and
 dazzling sunlight.
I believe that it was very quiet out there?

 Randy,
Glad that you were able to ride. I assume that winter in Wisconsin is
 very harsh.
Your photo, like Nick's, makes me think that it was very quiet.

Luke,

Spectacular views looking out across the bay over to San Francisco. A
lookout place that I have never been to in all the years that I lived in
the Bay Area; mostly South Bay Area.

What trail is this ?

Thank-you for sharing.
