[TANKS] Re: Intro and first Questions
Welcome! Ditto what everyone else has already said. I would also go for the Jagdtiger. MUCH simpler. No turret to mess around with. A Jagdpanther would also be nice! You may consider the C6C as a first controller. Very simple and quite inexpensive. Good luck! I can say for a fact that a turretless build like my Sturmtiger has TONS of room. Nice on a first build. I tried a smallish tank on my first build attempt...it wound up in the fireplace... ;) BTW, www.surpluscenter.com has tons of sprockets and such. I buy from them all the time as well as many on the list. Welcome to the group. I too would go with the Jagdtiger. Straight lines, no turret will make for a much faster build time and a lot easier on the head and pocket book. Best of all it looks really cool. Welcome to the hobby. I've got drawings of the Tiger1 scaled to the three foot rule if your interested. Their not that detailed but will get you started. Tank T047 (http://rctankcombat.com/tanks/T047/) was built from them. With a little modification they could be the basis for the JagdTiger. I might clean them up and post them to the files section soon. A good place to start is the website with the FAQ and how-to articles. My advice would to find a tank you love because you are going to be seeing a lot of it! Both of your picks are great, I love the Jagdtiger. Just make sure you make good use of search on both the old site and the google group as well. Winter is the perfect time to get started! [TANKS] Re: Intro and first Questions
Hello, Build the jagdtiger for sure! mean looking tank. As for the tracks, the TTS (treadmill) is the way to go, and even better again is a sprocket driven TTS. Im assuming drawing up a simple sprocket and making the parts will be no problem for an Architectural Modeler! For motors I agree with Doug, it will be hard to find a nicer motor at that price. Programming the controllers is the least of your worries, 9/10 times they come with step by step detailed instructions, simply work through it and if you get stuck you can always ask the group. Have a look around www.mcmaster.com most if not every part needed to build the mechanical workings of a tank, also look at www.robotmarketplace.com, good site for motors, controllers, all that jazz. Have a look at my tank www.rctankcombat.com/tanks/T063 , the suspension I used is quite simple, all the parts are quite cheap too.
