Hah! A kindred spirit! Keep with it, Derek. I have the same issue, build
then modify, then modify again. I haven't got a CAD program, nor Solid Works.
What I have are ideas, some work out, some don't. Most of the time I need to
build something to see why it won't work, then modify it so that it does.

Oh, I spent a lot of time thinking about building...problem with thinking is
there is no tangible product. Yes, my approach was to build it, test it, see
it didn't work, and then build it again and again until it did work. That's
just my personality though. I have to make progress (forward or backward) on
something tangible or I get board. I've said it many times, the theory in my
head didn't always work in a practical application. To me it's easier to fix
something that's broke than it is to make something work from scratch even it
means totally rebuilding the broken item. I haven't really wasted that much
material though. I keep my mistakes and make smaller parts from the big
mistakes... :)

 Suggestion 1/ lumber looting:-
Log hauling :- each player rushes to the centre field of play ,where

dragged back ( one at a time ) to base by a towing hook on the back of
each asset, if an asset ( SV or tank ) is destroyed on the way then
the log is unhitched and is available for the taking. 1000 points per
log returned to base in the time allowed.

A nice scenario that should be fun and easy to manage. Just make sure
that the lumber is big enough to cause some towing problems. They don't
have to be heavy, just cumbersome :-)

 Suggestion 2/ Troop invasion:-
Each player carries one soldier ( in team colours ) to one or many
specified areas with intent to `occupy that space` if an enemy solider
already occupies the space then he requires shooting before the new
occupier can take his place, 500 points for a space occupied/
 reoccupied.

This one sounds like it might be hard to manage during the game. For
example, when do you decide to award the 500 points? What if a soldier
occupies a space for 1 hour, while another occupies another space for
just 1 minute. I would worry less about awarding points for the space
occupied and focus on moving the soldiers to a given location. For
example, say it takes 5 soldiers in a certain area to complete the
invasion. When that happens, team bonus points are awarded and the game
restarts. Same logistics and tactical problem, but easier to manage as
a Contest Director.

Both scenarios should be lots of fun.

The speed limit is being considered for safety reasons.

But I can't help to ponder (especially by the way I was blindsided
with that particular agenda item at the last club meeting) that there
MIGHT be a little behind the scenes politicking from some to slow my
little ole Cromwell down! ;-)

Brad,

Good thing about PA is they do no hassle returns. At least in my
experience. But like I said, I'm using them in the bulldog with M01
motors and they are just amazing. Quite a difference in price for the
'same' batteries, eh?

Cheers,

Fred,

The quote from the battery place was for some 12V 32 AH
batteriesonly 2/3 the oomph of these ones.

I lucked out on the PA purchase, as I was walking in, someone else was
buying EVERY one of the big ones they had in stockso now I have to
see if they have any more coming in to replace this one.

Maybe this one we shouldn’t play on Chris Malton`s school playing
field , I can just see the Leopard `ploughing` a trough all the way
back to home base. And burning out a motor in the process.

`it takes 5 soldiers in a certain area to complete the

That’s a better idea.
So , Troop invasion :-
Each team will transport troops ( one at a time per asset , regardless
of asset type ) to a central specified location ( where they can be
shot at ) .On arrival at `ground Zero` after offloading your soldier
onto an open position , you can either choose to go back for more
reinforcements / take pot shots at enemy troops / kill any enemy tanks
who decided to stick around to kill your troops ( or you ) .Even
better, to kill enemy assets before they have chance to unload .
The first team that has five `living` soldiers in the zone is awarded
2500 points ( or any big number we can think of ) , all assets and
soldiers are then returned to home base and the game resets . This is
repeated as many times as possible in the hour long schedule.
In this scenario soldiers don’t lower themselves to hand to hand
combat, they just stand there bravely being shot at . Discipline is
the key to the whole operation.
FA may be very useful in this scenario , depending on position.

[TANKS] Re: SPROCKETS

2009-04-17 Thread Modena

#42 chain and sprockets are very hard to find, your best bet is to
replace the sprocket on the motor with a #35 sprocket, which is common
and easily accessible for the other end of the drive system.

This sprocket will need to be custom made to fit the M01 motor, Frank
P has made this in the past, or you can get a local manufacturer to do
it for you, although this is likely to be the more expensive option.

some people have tried using #41 chain on that #42 sprocket, but its
apparently not a very good fit and you can have issues with binding,
or the chain coming off.

I had #35 sprockets made to suit the M01 shaft
