[TANKS] Re: we need to recruit more people

2009-11-09 Thread Gregory Pwneror
The main problem I've thought of when thinking of making kitset tanks is how
things are going to be put together. RC Paintball tanks need to be pretty
sturdy, if you made it out of metal, you'd need to weld it t get the
strength. One of the main causes of the cost is the engines too, if someone
could get a bunch of good cheap engines and somehow also get cheap
batteries, then it may be a reality. If you used the C6C it'd remove most of
the cost of a controller too. A book may work too, sell it at hobby
conventions and at paintball and RC plane events. The real problem with RC
tank combat is that you need competition to play, but to have competition
you need a user base, which you won't get without other people to play with,
it's a catch-22, also most people will just buy 1:16 scale tanks for $450
instead.

[TANKS] Re: we need to recruit more people

2009-11-09 Thread Mike Måne

Like Ed mentioned, I do not know of very many people who would have
the eagerness to pursue the time and money-consuming hobby of RC tank
combat. Most hobbyists like just RC stuff or just paintball stuff, but
it takes a unique interest to combine the two. I personally doubt we
could successfully produce starter kits, since people typically do not
search for them. (I still think starter kits take away part of the
emotional attachments to creating your own vehicle too.) Perhaps all
the veteran tankers could combine their experience and their records
and publish a booklet on RC Tank Combat? With enough supporters, and a
good spokesman, perhaps you can find a willing book producer.

2009-11-09 Thread ?

I would be curious to see just how cheaply such a kit could be put
together... we are essentially combining the hobbies of radio control
modelling and paintball. Both have traditionally been considered small
niche markets, and neither hobby is really a poor man's game...

Hmm, actually that wouldn't work. The tank only had Bren LMGs on it and to
cannon, so it could be a support vehicle but nothing else.

[TANKS] Re: Tiger pics (for sale)

2009-11-09 Thread Gettysburg114th
Derek,
The tank has the following. I will start with the turret:
Spyder marker, mounted and hooked to a auto door lock for the trigger.
Barrel.
Elevate for the marker.
Rotate via a motor and friction wheel and a Lazy Susan.
Magazine
Turret cover
The hull is constructed of Birch 5 ply aircraft plywood, aluminum L
brackets. Axles are grade eight 3/8" bolts. We use these at work to lift 2500
lb
engines.
Two EV Warrior motors, mounted to the transmission which is chain and gears
like most other tanks.
The wiring has not been started. There are wire pigtails from the rotate
and elevate motors. That would have to be completed by the new owner.
Thanks for the interest.
Bob

I am the only person in about 20 miles that has a tank and there is
only 2 in 100 miles of me but there are several hobby shops around
here in Tampa florida area So I think I will be taking to the hobby
shops to show it off and try to get some more people intrested.

The local shop here that is the big one is Hobbie Town USA. Maby some
of use could get with hobbie shops and come up with some sort of "tank
starter kit". Maby it could include a 6 channel radio and reciever and
the speed controll and a couple of motors??? anyone have any ideas on
this... If we can some how do this in a way that will keep the cost as
