RE: [TANKS] M1 Abrams plans
I agree with Doug - 16 swingarms with overlapping road wheels is probably not the best idea for your first build. Whatever tank you choose, I think the best way to get your plans is to buy a plastic kit (1:35 or larger) and measure off the kit to scale up the measurements. [TANKS] Re: M1 Abrams plans
Also ask yourself if a working suspension is something you MUST have. It is not neccesary to have full independent wheels when the most successful tanks (ie. Pittelli's T001 Tiger) have thrived without it. Going with fixed wheels will save time, money, and a whole lot of work. True, tigers are big, boxy, and easier than most to build. But look into the British stock as well, like the Comet or Cromwell. Even the Sherman is pretty straight and clean cut, tho narrower than most and harder to fit the innards inside. Yeah im looking at Frank P's T01 right now and i like its simplicity. I see he used kiddie car motors for it, im thinking about useing 18V drill motors with the Mini relay control from Anvilus. do you think thet that will be a good combo and will they have enough power to drive an all wood tank if i build it as small as the rules allow? I think your best bet would be to forget about the kiddie car motors (Frank replaced his). Also, unless you build your Tiger super light I would also suggest the 24v 350w MO1 motors, also from alnvilus, over the 18v drill motors. They are cost effective and plenty powerful for these perposes as they have become the unofficial standard for the hobby. MO1s are superior to the EV Warriors. Always go with a geared motor over a non if you can help it. It will save you mas troubles, money, and weight. The Warriors were the first choice of motors years ago due to thier surplus nature, but have become scarce as of these last few years. Also the merits of the geared motors make the others obsolete.
