Industrial conveyor belting hauls thousands of tons of fuel a day to
the boilers of the worlds coal plants. Something as miner as a little-
ole tracked vehicle shouldn't hinder it all that much.

Apparently it scales up pretty well!  Most of the pictures will

tutorial on track construction. The videos in the other part of the
site demonstrate that the homemade tracks are quite durable.

Hmmm . . . so it's not a Tyng invention at all and should be re-named the KTS -
Kegresse Track System - from now on ;-)

[TANKS] Motors

2011-03-16 Thread MaleRN
Quick question everyone. Looking on Ebay ect for motors to use, do you
use 12V, or 24V electric motors? Would a scooter/ electric bike motor
be worth it, the seem to come with a sprocket to drive a chain,
thinking that could be useful. Something like this one

Thanks

Hi Stewart,

Go to the page, then over to the right side under links select
activities. You'll see videos 2007, and lots of other fun things
they've posted.

Or just go straight there: http://kegresse.dk/static.php?page=video-2007

Brian

ps - I'm voting for keeping it as the Tyng Track System. First of all,
Chrys K already got the KTS designation, and second, sure, Kegresse
put rubber bands on cars in WWI, but it took Steve Tyng to put them on
tanks!

[TANKS] Re: Tyng Track System, full scale

2011-03-16 Thread BF
Ben,

Yes, I had seen Dave's tracks, and there is certainly nothing wrong
with them - they are quite impressive. I just mentioned the Kegresse
page as another example of this style being used on a larger, heavy
vehicle, and it was nice to see that it performed well under muddy
field conditions with no problems. It reinforces my feeling that this
is an ideal method for the home builder to create tracked vehicles,
though I still like the KTS hinge tracks for some applications.
Having these, and the other track styles listed in the how-to section,
as options, gives the scratch-builder quite a bit of choice when it
comes to making tracks. (On the other hand, it just seems to encourage
some people to build bigger and bigger models... y'know, ones they can
ride around in... not namin' names or anything... ;-)

lol, i was just thinking (and posted) the same thing and then got to your
reply. the only thing i could see that might be an issue would be the

[TANKS] Re: Motors

2011-03-16 Thread Cobra
Yes electric scooter motors will work.
Both 12v and 24v are used, as well as 18v. 24v being the most common.
The MO1 (MY1016Z3) motors are the preferred motors today, being 24v
350w.
They are already geared down to an ideal speed for tank usage.
I use these motors, tho currently only at 12v. This will be changed in
the future for higher speeds and more power. :)
