Once you've learned the process (spray, measure, dye, mix, pour, pop) things go pretty smoothly. I'm leaning toward molding and casting myself, but I like Franks offer of "prototype parts for molds". This will replace Bad Kitty’s tracks and be for the upcoming T-72. The plan is to mount plastic tread pads to the #50 attachment chain I have. All told, I’ll probably need 250-300 pads in two different widths. Up to now, I had planned to go the tried-and-true Smooth-On casting method. I’ve never done any plastic casting, but I understand the process and I know I can get help from others who have cast their tracks. Ever since the RoboFest in Linthicum last April, however, I’ve been wondering if I could produce these things on the Makerbot Thing-O-Matic I saw demonstrated there. I don’t have any experience with 3d printers or their products. The Thing-O-Matic uses ABS plastic and produce parts the required size and thickness. Has anyone ever used one ? Would the parts be strong enough for tank treads ? Again, they’ll be mounted to roller chain, so they wouldn’t need to stand up to the stresses of a driven sprocket directly. We have a new apprentice in the shop. Please note a few changes to shop procedures. A . Due to the esoteric and highly confidential build materials being used by the apprentice the following safety guidelines must be adhered to without exception. 1. Phase 1 - level 1 particle filtration device as shown in picture #1 must be worn at all times. Also note all manual fresh air ventilators must be in the full open position. No matter how hot. Lab coats with proper ID badges must be worn. If your badge is out of date please report to security for proper badge reissuance ceremony . Please note that the Security department has relocated to it's new building. Shotzy's Tavern. Phase 2- This will be discussed when the apprentice makes it to the next level. B. Tooling will be upgraded in the shop over the contruction period. It is highly suggested that any questionable tools (you know, tools that you have that are cracked, worn out, getting read to fail, etc.) currently in board members possession be returned to the main complex in order that the apprentice can test (ie. finish them off ) them properly. Yes, the rule of you break it you replace it is still in place. See picture #2. C. Because of the colossal size of the project a minimum of 2 personnel must be in the facilty. The apprentice and either a journeyman or a master must be present. Picture #3. D. WARNING- DO NOT- REPEAT DO NOT discuss any historical data with the apprentice as this will be a distraction that might cause loss of apprentice dermal layer or an appendage. Either way our insurance has lapsed since the Security team seems to have used the last premium payment for a badge reissuing ceremony. Excellent work... I had to leave the computer to chase one my kids while the game was counting down to start and caame back after a minute or so had already expired in the game. So, as a late arrival to my team, who was already losing 3-7, I set off and immediatly got hit taking my life down to 10% or so. I had the 75mm howi as my gun and promptly one shot killed the other guy. I then snuck up on another enemy's rear end and one shot killed him. After I rounded a corner I came face to face with anothe T84 and I got off a quick shot taking him down to near death. Soon he fired back but some how missed from only 30 meters or so away. After waiting the 15 seconds or so for the reload I put a shot in to finnish him off. In the street I saw an SPG runn for cover behind a building. I followed and shot and killed from the rear. By this time my team was down to 3 and them to 6. I spoted a German Bison in a bush at the end of the street and took it to 20% with one shot, as I waited for the deadly return from the SPG, I saw the shot fly barely over my head. One more shot put him out and I pushed north to the capture zone. A PzII was camping in the open trading shots with a M3 stuart from my team at short distance, so I killed him with 2 shots to his flanks. Suddenly the M3 blew up as the last enemy form thier team peaked round the corner and finished off the Stuart. We were both the last on our teams at this point and I scored a perfect shot as he tried anothe peek-a-boo shot from around a building, but his shell went wide. Since my relod time was slower I hid behind the husk of the dead PzII as this last Pz38t missed me and instead hit my cover. I swung out and shot his drive sproket and tracked him in just a shot that left a small portion for me to hit, but no line of sight for him to get a shot off on me. I waited for the reload and delivered the death shot to the sitting duck for the win. That was 7 kills for a Top Gun award as well as Sniper for 12 perfect shots. Not bad for a tier 3, eh? In the enemy's defence it was a tier 1,2, and 3 battle with me near the top of my team's list. But, going on a 7 kill streak without getting 1 hit between kills is impressive to myself. Seemed that when we thought they were set on high speed, we were incorrect. Paul changed the setting for the second battle and I noticed some smoke coming from the engine bay. Learned a few valuable lessons yesterday. 1. Which is the low speed setting on the drill motors. 2. More than enough power on 24 volts at low speed. 3. Bright outer shell on the paintballs is a definite advantage. My order had a green outer shell, not the orange I had ordered. Could not see a thing going down range. In the following battles I laced some bright pink and orange through the supply. Much like tracer rounds. Helped , but just not what was needed. 4.I definitely like being mobile. This is aimed at all nations not just the UK. I wish to start a new hobby , just like this hobby of Franks ( following most of Franks rules ) ,only the tanks aren’t rc , you build your tank and sit in it ,driving it about the battlefield yourself , this new hobby can still have SV`s and FA just like Franks hobby. I think this larger scale hobby will be of more interest to different groups like 4wd off road clubs and such, clubs that are full of mechanics and engineers. Taking away the rc element will make the hobby less geeky and more `fun` . I hope nobody is too offended by my comments here , I don’t wish to offend. I have no wish to enforce any sort of rules like `it has to be to scale` or it has to be modelled on a real and produced vehicle. I want anyone to build any design or size of tank / asset they wish. Its just got to be able to drive the occupant(s) over the battle field and fire one paintball at a time. With the obvious exception regarding the use of internal combustion engines ,all other rc tank combat rules can apply for me. These tanks could even be battled on standard paintball sites against standard paintballers , if a number of small targets are positioned around the tank that all have to be hit before the tank can be clamed `out` the possibilities are vast. I expect some new rules will have to be dreamed up to cover safety . These vehicles can be driven onto low level trailers or even onto pickup trucks and driven to battle fields when and where ever possible. So guys what does anybody think ? Im gonna start one anyway . --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You are currently subscribed to the "R/C Tank Combat" group. [TANKS] Re: Time to introduce myself
Jason, Welcome to the next consuming hobby.I am in Vegas and am currently having T012 (SdKfz 166 Brummbar) refitted by John P in Maryland Hope to have it back here after this summer.. If you check with local Gyms and/or gym equipment repair businesses, you should be able to get free treadmill belt that they replace, for the TTS.. I have been trying (with little luck) to build a Comet BUT, life and work keep getting in the wayMAG (Maryland Attack Group) and myself are working out this deal to further MAG's domination of the continental United States Long Live the Alliance, Kurt (Desert Dog) G --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You are currently subscribed to the "R/C Tank Combat" group. [TANKS] Re: T-12 Conversion
Gentlemen, After intense negotiations between MAG and Desert One, it was determined that it is in the best interest of the Alliance to KISS(Keep It Simple Stupid).. The Brummbar would meet the specifications outlined by the Desert Nomads the bestIt had to be operable and servicable in the harshest of desert climates and by the dumbest, least talented, most technically challenged of Tanker (me)...Much like the design criteria of an AK47But much better executed by the conglomerate known as MAG...
