Thunderstorms typically roll through after 4pm so our battles should not be
impacted.

Re: [TANKS] Gettysburg Battle Report

2012-10-31 Thread Dave D.
Hey John,

Just got power back late last night... Funny, my wife and I are lying in bed,
around 11:15pm, talking about the storm and then about the LIPA bill and
whether we'll see any difference in the use of less electricity (we don't trust
them), and BINGO, the power comes on!! We were lucky this time, only a day and
a half without power, we lost power for three plus days during Irene last year.
And that was during the heat of August...

Yeah, I wished that I could have made it, but I'm definitely looking forward to
the spring battle!! Gotta consult that Farmer's Almanac and find a weekend
with blue skies!!

As you probably know by now, the storm missed Long Island-directly, but we
certainly did feel it nonetheless!! Our home didn't suffer much, mostly
small-medium tree branches, nothing structurally to the house, thank
goodness... And even though we live near the ocean, we didn't get any
water-surge damage. We're about three quarters the way out on the Island, I
think the closer you got to NYC the worse it was. Again, we were very
fortunate. Now it's just a matter of a bit more clean up that the usual fall
leaf raking, but it surely beats having to make a call to your home owners
insurance carrier!! Thanks for your concern.

Dave D.

I wanted to get there early Saturday, but was delayed by a child walking into
our room and puking on our bed.
(otherwise I would have left before they got up.) I arrived a bit before
lunch, on Saturday.
I hadn't planned on staying overnight, but I had some camping gear to crash in
Caledonia State Park if I needed to.
But hanging out at the hotel all day, waiting for people (few of which I could
visualy identify) seemed ... odd.
...even odder than normal, maybe.

I probably should have left my cell phone number with a message at the front
desk, cruised around for a while and
picked up on Day 2.. But I imagined I would get bored and head South, leaving
someone to call me after

Funny story about the Strv's low profile ...

During one of the Saturday morning battles, Frank and I was in the woods with
Frank shooting into the village and myself moving to support.  I heard/spied a
Cromwell trying to sneak around behind us.  I called out a warning and spun the
Strv to try to block the Cromwell from crawling up the Tiger's tail.  Steve
drove up and stopped 5' away ... then proceeded to shoot over the Strv to land
shots on the backside of the Tiger.  :P

You'll be receiving a bill from my cardiac specialist shortly :-)

I must say, though, that when it comes to rookie battlers, Mike stands
amongst the best we've seen. His years of warship participation were
evident, allowing his vehicles to actually work properly in more initial
battles than most first-time battlers. Better still, even when he had a
problem, he didn't panic and/or throw in the towel ... he worked through
them, jury-rigged when necessary (lots of duct tape is a good thing) and
got back out on the field.

no, but a some sort of schedule of what can expect on both day should be
listed.

those who have attended the one day event in the past know there are 2
battles with a break in between for lunch and a side order of BS and about
what time the battles are to start followed by a clean up of the grounds, but
now that it's being made into a 2 day even, i would think something other
than saying there's going be a cook-out Saturday afternoon is a given

what slated for Saturday and Sunday?

I for one don't care to plan to attend a 2 day event not knowing what to
expect on both days to happen. and for others, they might only want to
attend the one day and not the other but not sure what one might be more to
their liking.

who wants to show up one day just to sit around BS, and having a bite to
eat, it's not worth the time or money, at least not to me, i can do that
right from this seat.

and if you are figuring the hole day for 2 days, what about someone needing
some relief? finding a tree doesn't take care of everything. if the house
is off limits as it normally is, then how about finding at least 2 places
near by (as there isn't much of anything around the corner) with rest rooms
that can be used (and not get lost trying to find them or getting back).

Bill,
Sorry that the weekend turned out this way. Hope you can make it up in the
spring. My Stug will be running by then.
I was thinking earlier. The original date that the battle was to be held,
the weather was sunny and the temps were in the 70's. Less than a month
earlier.
My trees still have leaves on them. The snow is starting to weigh them
down. Hope the power stays on this weekend.

Here-here, I second the notion...

Yeah, the dumkopft sans tank chiming in.

Actually, how about a three bagger, as in a three day weekend
this coming Spring, making the third day optional for the die-hards that want
to stay.
It would really churn up the interest and attendance.
Just a thought for the higher powers to chew on...

AND, maybe, just MAYBE I'll have a hull completed by then!! CTM.

A bunch of us (aka. real battlers) are heading up in the morning and
we'll play it by ear when we get there. If a little snow arrives,
we'll have an epic battle. If some big snow arrives, we'll just re-trace

I'll ring you on your cell phone when I'm passing through Gettysburg

don't know about the undergrounder's, but here they are calling for a 30%
chance of rain on Saturday (wish it was showing snow) _Click here: 5 Day
Weather Forecast and Conditions for 17307_
(http://www.weather.com/weather/5-day/Biglerville+PA+17307?role=) and a bit
cooler out (guess i'll have to go
look for my jeans and put these shorts away)

don't forget the rain an snow (haven't looked in a few days for the
weather there, last i saw was rain). hoping for at least the snow, even if it's

flurries as i think that would be something to see a tank battle in.

Events are only canceled because of emergencies and those are usually not
