Re: [TANKS] update on Talons

2014-06-05 Thread Callum King-Underwood
C is the peak discharge constant. Multiply it by the batteries capacity to
get the actual peak discharge amount.
a 2C 2Ah battery would therefore have a peak discharge of 2*2 = 4A.
Those batteries are 5000mAh or 5Ah 20C. So 5 * 20 = 100A. 4 of them in
parallel = 400A peak current output

2014-05-26 Thread loic Anthian
Interesting! That means we can increase this fuse to 50Amps… The Talons are
rated to over 100Amps I believe! The motors will take that amperage as well.

That was some “wicked” driving Mr. Tyng! Or that tree stump was too steep for
that Tiger…

Happy to report that the drive issue with the FOA Tiger was not a blown

These lipo`s look like a wonderful power solution ,inexpensive and
lightweight.
do you run them in pairs giving you half hour @ 22.2v / pair ?
What is the "C" in- "*Discharge*: 20C Constant / 30C Burst" ?
Is "C" the new letter for Amp , or am I missing something ?

Hetzer T010 used the following drive system during
recent battles on May 18.

two Makita drill motors
two 12V 18Ah batteries wired in series (24V)
two Talons - Coast (not Brake) setting, no cooling fans
IMX-1 mixer

Bad news - The Hetzer fried two original Talons (not SR) during the
second sortie of the first battle (Defend the Town). The IMX-1 was
not damaged.

Air temperature was not hot and the failure occurred early in the
second sortie with about 20 minute break between sorties.
Consequently, I do not believe that it was a thermal failure.

The failure did occur while performing rapid reversal steering
maneuvers in very tall grass. The failure was probably due
to impedance reversal spikes.

Good news - It only required about 20 minutes to replace the dead
Talons with two new Talon SRs.

The new Talons SRs did not fry during the second battle (Fox and
Hounds).

I would not classify this as a "bad experience". Please
remember that the Hetzer is driven very hard by a crazy
man. She must be steered to aim her gun.

In my opinion, Talons are still the most cost effective solution
for our tanks. I simply wanted people to know that they are
not indestructible.

I read some more details about the improved Talon SR. I believe
that the new "Synchronous Sign Magnitude Rectification" in the
SR should be more robust for sudden motor reversal than the
old "Locked Antiphase Rectification" in the Talons that I fried.
We shall see if the Hetzer fries Talon SRs in future battles.

Exponential throttle response (versus linear) would also help
this sudden reversal problem. Perhaps someday Cross the
Road Electronics with introduce a Talon SR with an exponential
throttle option.

Re: [TANKS] update on Talons

2014-05-23 Thread dwconn404
Has anybody else had bad experiences with Talons ? They seemed like a good,
cost effective, alternative.
I've been using the same two Victor 883's for six years without an issue. They
are a little high priced but are very tough.

Subject: [TANKS] update on Talons

The new Talons SRs did not fry during the second battle (Fox and
Hounds).
