[RE-wrenches] 25 kW backfeed limit circuit

2019-06-25 Thread Mac Lewis
Hello Wrenches,

I'm working with a small utility on a large residence for grid-tie solar
with a wind-turbine. They have a 25 kW backfeed limit. Its a 4 stack
radian system with about 25 kW of solar and 10 kW of wind. The wind is AC
coupled Bergey and the solar is DC coupled with FM100s. My idea was to use
the Radians to limit the solar to 15 kW and let the wind do its thing.
However, the utility doesn't like the idea that this limit could be changed
without their knowledge.

Has anyone designed and/or implemented a backfeed limiting circuit that
could knock some charge controllers off-line in case that 25 kW limit is
reached. Is there anything off-the-shelf that can do that?

Thanks in advance

[RE-wrenches] Sunpower Ensemble

2019-06-25 Thread Dave Tedeyan
Hi All,

Does anyone out there have any good information about Enphase Ensemble? I
am doing a solar + storage design for a new home, where the customer is set
on using Ensemble even though it is not yet available. So I am trying to
design for adding it in the future, although it is tough to get specific
information. Some questions I have:
-Will it have its own transfer switch?
-Will the batteries, solar and backed up loads all connect into the same
backup loads panel? -Does it do whole house backup?
-Do you need to use the IQ combiner box for the solar combiner?
-The batteries will have their own integrated microinverters that should be
able to charge the batteries, and also power loads and form a grid signal
to keep the rest of the solar producing, correct?
-I was told that there will need to be at least as many IQ8's as IQ7
microinverters in the array, which means that half the MI's will need to be
upgraded. Can anyone confirm this?
-Will Sunpower AC modules be compatible?

If anyone out there has any of this info, that would be much appreciated!
Cheers,
Dave

Did you see the self consumption or backup on XW+? Also XWPro
is only a bit more and has a 10 product warranty on it. If you used this
with the Discover AES LFP, xanbus can directly link Soc and all battery

Re: [RE-wrenches] AC/DC coupling on conext

2019-06-25 Thread Lones Tuss
Hello Drake
This is from the App note
OutBack’s Frequency Shift AC Coupling is only employed in the Radian GS(A)
class inverter at this time. It requires a firmware upgrade on both the Radian
inverter and MATE3s system display and controller. The firmware is only
available by download on the OutBack Power website.

The GS-AC-GEN –KIT is available from Distributors.
It contains the needed breakers and relays the app note shows the wiring.
Take Care Sir

Hi Lones,

Can the frequency shift be retrofitted to an earlier radian, four + years old?
The unit now has the obsolete, remote operated circuit breaker (ROCB) that I'm
a bit concerned about.

Thanks,

Drake

Hi Andrew
OutBack now has AC Coupling for the Radian using frequency shift.
Below is a link to the Ac Coupling/ Frequency Shift App Note located on the
OutBack website.
http://www.outbackpower.com/downloads/documents/appnotes/acc_freq_app_note.pdf
You also state the client wants to “get solar” in a situation where the grid
cannot accept incoming solar.
The radian has several modes which utilizes solar and will prevent sell back.
This might be an option to consider.
Take Care Sir

With the StorEdge and LG Chem product, the StorEdge inverter (DC coupled
inverter for both PV and the battery) is the brains of the system and can
be programmed to your liking. If you are not familiar with the product, you
should check it out.
