From what I’ve seen in the discussions here, some people think they’re well
made, but when you do need technical support for any reason, good luck… maybe
people have gotten some support, but if my memory serves me correctly, the
general feeling I got reading the posts was that there was no support.

Thanks,

Re: [RE-wrenches] Nuance ground racking

2023-10-11 Thread Kienan Maxfield via RE-wrenches
I own the Dewalt 2 inch 60V rotary hammer you linked and it is totally awesome.
You’ll be blown away by it. It’s totally worth it.

You might want to make sure to just use the huge 12ah batteries that it comes
with… might be a lot of power demand fire smaller 60V batteries… but I
regularly use mine with the smaller batteries and I’ve never had a problem.

I mostly use it for drilling 2 inch holes in 8” concrete walls for bringing
conduit into basements and crawl spaces. It goes through amazingly easily.
Everyone who has tried mine has been totally blown away… probably about 8
professionals and contractors.

Thanks,
Kienan

Hi all,

It seems like the Milwaukee 2" SDS max drill is the standard -

I am wondering if it is possible to use a cordless drill though. DeWalt makes
both a cordless and corded version that claim to have the same impact energy as
each other, although both are less than the Milwaukee Drill. Milwaukee has 19.9
ft-lbs of energy and the DeWalt ones have 19.4 Joules, which is 14.3 ft-lbs of
energy.
Cordless Kit -

Corded Kit - https://www.dewalt.com/product/d25773k/2-sds-max-rotary-hammer

The cordless drill is tempting because I already have a bunch of DeWalt
equipment, and it would be nice to avoid needing a generator or some very long
extension cords.

Some of these BMSs are not very tolerant of heavy loads... the heavier
load may have triggered the BMS to shut down and go into self-protect mode.
It can take a few hours to days for voltage to recover. Isolate the battery
from the parallel connections and give a few days of no load time to
recover and reset.

After that, use a regulated power supply and connect it to the battery to
charge. You only need a slight current, usually less than ten amps. Set
the power supply up at the base voltage 54 to 56 volts.

Last, supplying charge voltage on and off several times can wake up the
BMS, but again, I would only try this with a regulated power supply.

The bad news is they may have killed the BMS... once you do that, it's a
hard sell for most manufacturers to cover under warranty.

Good Luck...

they start a larger load (power tool, hair dryer) it pulls too much current
and causes the BMS to shut down the battery output. Not necessarily a huge
issue, but I cannot get the app (ABC-BMS) to reset the batteries. I log in

Re: [RE-wrenches] Well pump with Sol-Ark

2023-10-11 Thread Dave Angelini Offgrid Solar via RE-wrenches

The Franklin with capacitor Jbox at top of well helps with the surge. It
is not what you would call soft start!

An ammeter (or a loud generator) on a soft start pump will tell you what
you have. A nice slow over 10 seconds ramping up of amps or gen noise
when the pump is energized. You won't get this with a Franklin and Jbox.

I would avoid residential size VFD driven constant pressure pumps. I
ended up with one at my current house. The VFDs go pretty regularly. My
well service company can swap out a VFD in about 20 minutes and they
always have a whole bunch of them on their shelves. They apparently do

2023-10-11 Thread Dave Angelini Offgrid Solar via RE-wrenches

Look at a variable speed pump from Grundfos. Not as many choices for
large pumping apps.

The SQ Flex pump is basically a VFD when used with the controller. It
can direct run from solar which tells
you there is no surge. Even the SQ pump without the controller will soft
start and should work with

any inverter built for offgrid.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Well pump with Sol-Ark

2023-10-11 Thread William Bryce via RE-wrenches
For high surge and unbalanced splitphase loads, you can’t beat a Midnite
Solar Rosie Inverter. It uses Sic FET’s and is rock solid. I have an early
unit and it’s starts my 5hp compressor and still runs other loads without a
flicker.

Runs loads that even my Schneider XW+ would not. Why complicate the
installs with a VFD? Just install an inverter that can do what you need it
to do?

Interesting the variation in experiences. Most of my jobs are off-grid
these days which almost always means a (reliable) well pump need.  I'd
entertain the idea of 3-phase with VFD but that's quite a bit more
initial expense for this customer and possible higher long term costs
with the VFD equipment?  Once again, the value of being transformer

for the largest 240V submersible well pump the Sol-Ark 12KW inverter can

Re: [RE-wrenches] Well pump with Sol-Ark

2023-10-11 Thread Jay via RE-wrenches
I’d look at a 3 phase pump with vfd/soft start control and eliminate the start
surge.

[RE-wrenches] Well pump with Sol-Ark

2023-10-11 Thread frenergy via RE-wrenches

I'm looking for opinions and/or real world experience on recommendation
for the largest 240V submersible well pump the Sol-Ark 12KW inverter can
start/run.  Assume 500 watt load prior to starting the pump, static
level of water in well is 75 feet, system psi when it starts is 40.
