Re: [RE-wrenches] Whole Home UPS, Generator Charging

2024-10-28 Thread Lou Russo via RE-wrenches
Jason,

We have had no demand for systems with no PV here in Hawaii but we are just
a small outfit.
As far as generators and Sol-Arks. We have always managed to get generators
charging with Sol-Arks but it seems to be a challenge. I'll state the 2
obvious things which have tripped us up in the past which I am sure you
have already tried.

Battery Setup->Charge-> Amps (Our guys alway forget this is DC Amps)
Always program the voltage setpoint in case closed-loop goes down

In off-grid installs we always install on the grid-input with CTs. It seems
to work better for us regardless of the size of the generator.

Re: [RE-wrenches] All-In-Ones / Sol-Ark fail

2024-10-10 Thread Lou Russo via RE-wrenches
Aloha All,

Thank you Jason. This is a huge and surprising issue. So much so that I
dropped what I was doing and called Sol-Ark to confirm. Mind you this was
level 1 support, but I was told this is what the Sol-Arks are supposed to
do and it is a feature not a bug. Their take is if there is any fault on
any one string, the Sol-Ark assumes the worst and shuts everything down.

I wonder what solutions could be implemented on future installs to prevent
this from happening?

Discover Rack Mount (you have to buy the outdoor rated
enclosure separately) - Software is great and firmware is easily updated,
standard rack mount aesthetics (not great looking) when
installed without enclosure.
HomeGrid (outdoor rated included) - Software is half baked and firmware is
a pain to update, looks nice.

Besides software we have not had any issues as of yet with either of these
batteries.

Mayfield Renewables has a great video (1 hour long), though not as

On a side note, Mayfield Renewable is a great outfit to work with for your

[RE-wrenches] UL3741

2024-10-08 Thread Lou Russo via RE-wrenches
Hello Wrenches,

We are researching UL3741 and NEC2020s Photovoltaic Hazard Control
System. Whether it is safe or not is a discussion for another time.

After digging around a bunch it does not seem to be really geared toward us
residential (grid-tied and off-grid) and small commercial installers. But I
wanted to connect with folks who know the landscape better than us before
we disregard it for the foreseeable future.

UL3741 listed racking systems and solar panels are not the limiting factor,
as there are enough manufacturers listed that we use regularly and can get
easily. It appears that Midnite's MNSSR-600S-SS may be a good path for us
as it has been tested with the Sol-Ark15k but from what I can tell not to
UL3741 standards.

It seems the short list of compliant inverters with a compliant racking
system using Midnite's MNSSR-600S-SS is what would hold us back. As we
don't actively use any of the listed inverters.

Has anyone heard from inverter manufacturers that are actively working with
a racking company on getting UL3741 or if they EVEN want to pursue it
(besides Tesla, Solis, SMA, GrowWatt)?Specifically battery based hybrid
inverters or charge controllers. I can't seem to find any.

Thank you for your input.

[RE-wrenches] 120/240V to 200V 3 phase (Japanese Electrical Scheme)

2024-07-25 Thread Lou Russo via RE-wrenches
Aloha All,

I have a project that requires powering 6 different pieces of equipment
(mostly small motors) from East Japan that require 200V 3 phase (L-L-L) at
50Hz (though 60Hz appears to be OK), a unique electrical scheme for sure.
The amp requirement for the various pieces of equipment ranges from 0.75A
to 6A. For a total maximum load of 28 amps. The site is off-grid with
standard 120/240V North American Electrical Scheme using a Sol-Ark 15kW.

My initial plan was to use Digital Phase Converters from MYUNG YOUN
ELECTRONICS for each device but after seeing the wiring in the control
panel and power distribution box in person there is no room to do this.
Plus the entire panel would need to be rewired.

Ideally, I would have one device that converts the
electricity appropriately (transformer, VFD, etc). I have reached out to
several EEs and am awaiting responses.

In the meantime I figured the hive mind of the Wrenches group may have some
ideas or know somebody that would.

As always, thanks for everyone's time.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Optics

2024-05-19 Thread Lou Russo via RE-wrenches
I started poking through EnerSys's (The most recent owner of Outback) SEC
filings in hopes to find who the new buyer is. I found nothing related to
the sale but found this in their most recent quarterly report :

On November 8, 2023, the Company's Board of Directors approved a plan to
stop production and operations of residential renewable energy products,
which include our OutBack and Mojave brands. Management determined that
residential renewable energy products no longer fit with the company’s core
strategy and resources will be better allocated toward commercial energy
solutions for enterprise customers. The Company currently estimates that
the total charges for these actions will amount to $23.5 million relating
primarily to $22.6 million in non-cash charges primarily including
inventory and an indefinite-lived intangible asset write-offs and $0.9
million in cash charges including employee severance and retention
payments. The plan is expected to be completed in fiscal 2024. During the
nine months of fiscal 2024, the Company recorded non-cash charges totaling
$6.6 million primarily related to indefinite-lived intangible asset
write-off and cash charges of $0.4 million related to severance costs. The
Company also recorded a non-cash write off relating to inventories of $16.1
million, which was reported in cost of goods sold.

To say I am curious about what is going on is an understatement.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Optics

2024-05-18 Thread Lou Russo via RE-wrenches
All my sites are currently down.

Not related but I tried to call tech support yesterday during business
hours and got message saying thank you for calling Outback Sales leave a
message.

I do hope they are just in transition but I got a bad feeling about this. I
hope I am wrong.

Has anyone heard for sure who bought them? I know they were bought from
talking to tech support but that is all I know and the Internet has 0 info
on a recent sale.

Re: [RE-wrenches] REC modules - review?

2024-05-17 Thread Lou Russo via RE-wrenches
We have installing REC for 15 years with no issues. George and his team
have been nothing but awesome to work with. We have never had to file a
warranty claims.

As a certified installer the improved warranty and labor credit if there is
a claim has been a great selling point for us as well.

Their app for registering panels is easy.

[RE-wrenches] Schneider Insight Home and Insight Cloud

2024-02-05 Thread Lou Russo via RE-wrenches
Aloha All,

I recently installed 2 new off-grid systems using all Scneider products,
Discover 7.4 batteries and the Insight Home all setup in Insight Cloud.
Both systems are experiencing communications issues with Insight Cloud and
a bit on the Xanbus. Though each in a different way.

Before I go into specifics, has anyone else been having issues with Insight
Cloud or the Xanbus recently?
Just wondering if it is a me problem or a they problem.

I have gone through all the standard tech support phone call instructions.
All firmware updated, comms cables checked, internet speeds confirmed to be
good, system set back to system defaults and reprogrammed, etc...

Thanks for your time.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Automatic load control

2023-12-15 Thread Lou Russo via RE-wrenches
Aloha Howie,

The Lumin Smart Panel has worked well for us.

https://www.luminsmart.com/

Software is simple and tech support was on point. The app works well also.
Bonus...you can remotely monitor power consumption on each controlled load.

Two minor hang ups:

1. Having to run a separate "grid sense" circuit. This circuit has to be
pulled from a location that is on the grid side of the Sol-Ark. This can
be in a pain when the load you wanna dump is on sub panel clear across the
property from the inverter. I am sure this the case with all these load
shedding type devices.

2. You have to do a training to install them. It was a short webinar. Super
easy.

[RE-wrenches] Looking for software platforms

2023-11-19 Thread Lou Russo via RE-wrenches
Aloha All,

We are exploring software platforms to manage service calls (HouseCall Pro,
Service Titan, etc...) The feature set on these service call related
platforms seem to be great for that component of our business but we also
need to manage the full installation side of the business and every growing
paperwork flow to make sure things don't slip through the cracks. Ideally
these 2 needs would be met by one platform and allow us to move on from the
Google Workspace kludge, which has been great up until now. I don't know if
it is even possible!

I am wondering if you all are currently using any software platforms to
meet these needs (separately or together) and what your experience has
been.

Thanks!

I would call Current Connected in Nevada.

They handle SOKs for the US market and I have found there tech support to
be knowledgeable and timely.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Sol-Ark 15k Conduit Entries

2023-08-03 Thread Lou Russo via RE-wrenches
Hello All,

Super impressive install, Michael. Almost worth a flight, and a site visit!
Back to Jason's initial question

If you are using the 15kW Outdoor Sol-Ark they vent from the top and bottom
with a required 6" minimum spacing on both the top and bottom.

A 12kW Outdoor with 8x8 gutter and 1" offset nipples have worked great for
us.

Re: [RE-wrenches] HomeGrid batteries

2022-10-11 Thread Lou Russo via RE-wrenches
That was a bit of a cavalier statement on my part. On paper the tech specs
look good.
The warranty (60% after ten years or 3650 cycles) and initial track record
is what I think is mediocre. .
I guess in comparison to Blue Planet most battery warranties look mediocre.

[RE-wrenches] FXR3048A and Pentair SuperFlo Variable Speed pool pump

2021-04-19 Thread Lou Russo
Hello All,

I have a client with a off-grid 48V dual FXR3048As (120/240) system that
wishes to run a Pentair SuperFlo Variable speed pool pump (Model number
342001). There is plenty of PV and battery to run the pump. The pool had a
Hayward single speed pump that reached end-of-life.

I am just curious if anyone has had odd issues running this Pentair with
the FXRs.

You never know.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Energy Storage and Working Spaces for Other Equipment

2021-01-31 Thread Lou Russo
Aloha All,

I just had a plan reviewer kick out our plans for this very reason!
Sol-Ark 12kw mounted above a Blue Ion 2.0 cabinet. Lucky on this job I have
the space to offset the 2 pieces of equipment so I didn't push back at all.
But it will definitely be a problem in a lot of future installs. Not to
mention aesthetically it doesn't look very neat and tidy.

I am think that the wording of 110.26(E) (1) (a) and 110.26(E) (2) (c) may
be my ticket:
"No piping, ducts, leak protection apparatus, or other equipment foreign to
the electrical installation shall be located in this zone"

I have to think that the battery is not foreign to the electrical
installation.

Any thoughts?

Aloha,

Lou Russo

I third what Ray says.

It is also my understanding that Tesla does not allow their installers to

Re: [RE-wrenches] Offgrid Generators?

2020-02-27 Thread Lou Russo
We recommend two setups:

1. Any correctly sized Honda with no auto-start. I have tried
unsuccessfully to get the auto-start (not remote start) to be 90% reliable.
Client can haul it to town if they need. Honda seems to make a pretty
reliable gasoline generator. This is how I run my off-grid home and I've
had the same one for 8 years now.

2. Any correctly sized Northern-Lights generator with a DynaGen GSC300
auto-start. Rock solid 2-wire start with a even better engine and
generator end. Have some well maintained ones out there that are over 15
years old with 10,000 plus hours. Pricey but over the top reliability.

[RE-wrenches] Aquion - Mix and Matching Layers

2019-05-09 Thread Lou Russo
Wrenches,

I am getting more and more call about orphaned Aquion systems that have
gone bad. Many of the systems have one or two "layers" that have gone bad.
Voltage spikes up to the 14-15V range while charging and cratering to zero
if even the tiniest load is put on it (e.g. turning on a charge controller,
like I said...tiny). So I do not believe charging that particular "layer"
with 6V charger would fix the problem.

Has anybody out there swapped out a bad "layer" with a good one and
reassembled the stack? Is it even possible?

As always thanks for the help.

[RE-wrenches] Pika

2018-12-17 Thread Lou Russo
Aloha All,

Do any of the Wrenches out there have any experience with The Pika
Islanding Inverter and Harbor Smart Battery ? Looking specifically if to
find out if they can be stacked (inverters and batteries)?

I see there have been several threads about the company but nothing on the
stacking option for their new Islanding inverters or even a confirmed
installation. Any one?

As always..Thanks.

[RE-wrenches] Aquion Testing

2018-11-10 Thread Lou Russo
Aloha Wrenches,

I have a orphaned system with 6 - Aquion Aspen 48Ss that is running out of
energy nightly. This is a off-grid system with a Outback FP1. The logs from
the Mate 3 do not show excess usage. Beyond testing the voltages of the
individual stacks is there any way to check if a battery is good, bad, or
failing? I don't have much experience with Aquions and have yet to have
any of the 40 or so stacks I have installed fail.

Thanks for your insight.

Re: [RE-wrenches] SOC, FNDC, and LFP batteries

2018-08-20 Thread Lou Russo
Jay,

The batteries are Blue Ion 2.0 from Blue Planet Energy, the 8kWh cabinet.
The listed Maximum Continuous Charge and Maximum Discharge Rate is 1C.

I have been able to get Midnite's Wizbang to reflect correctly for about 5
months (on a different system) but it has also started to wonder and since
the MyMidnite2 portal is down I am unable to provide more details. I was
super hopeful about the Wizbang.

[RE-wrenches] SOC, FNDC, and LFP batteries

2018-08-17 Thread Lou Russo
Hello All,

Does anybody have any insight in getting the SOC to report accurately on
the Outback FNDC when using batteries that have a minimal voltage curve? I
have several systems with LFP batteries that have both a eGauge
(communicating directly with the battery BMU) and a FNDC and I get wildly
different SOCs. In a typical 24 hour period (12am-12am) I get SOCs on the
FNDC that vary 2% to 34% of what the battery BMUs are reporting. I am
assuming that the BMUs are reporting accurately. I would think a 1%-5%
difference would be acceptable.

Any help or thoughts on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Ibew is working to exclude C-46 contractor’s from installing Batteries.

2018-03-26 Thread Lou Russo
Although the licence numbers are different here in Hawaii County, They have
stopped accepting a C-60 (Solar Power Systems) all together about 2 years
ago. They now only accept C-13 (Electrical Contractor) for any PV project,
ESS or not. It was a hard pill to swallow, but ultimately it forced us to
get the C-13.

Basically the Solar Power Systems contractors licence is completely useless
here in Hawaii county. Maybe this is the canary in the coal mine and you
all should start working towards the additional licence class.

The benefit for us is that we now take wiring jobs to fill in the gaps
between our PV projects.

[RE-wrenches] FXR , Mate 3, AGS and Must Run

2017-02-12 Thread Lou Russo
Aloha Wrenches,

I have steered clear of the Mate 3 for as long as possible, I have burned
through my stash of FXs and now have been installing the FXRs and using the
Mate 3. I typically utilize AGS for my clients in a 2 - wire start with a
Diesel Genset setup. On 2 recently installed systems, one a FP2 and the
other a FP1, the clients require "Must Run" to function. Of course it does
not work. I can get it to work if I set the time for a few minutes later,
but not for the next day. I have not used this feature ever in the past but
since it is in the manual I wrongly assumed it would work. I am running
firmware version 3.015 on both Mates. Tech support just wants me to do a
factory reset and reprogram. That did not work.

Anybody else having issues getting this feature to work?

On a related note, software problems are becoming a systemics issue in our
industry. Being recently burned by Schneider because of a software issue
(to the point of breaking an appliance), now this, and endless other little
bugs from almost every manufacturer my frustration level with software in
the off-grid world is at a all time high. Given the importance of supplying
power I firmly believe our manufactures can not and should not take the
same approach to software as Silicon Valley does. "Fail early and often"
may work for Facebook, Google and Uber but it has no place in our
industry. Keep it simple and fight the urge to engage in feature creep.
PLEASE.

[RE-wrenches] New Washer - Old Inverter

2017-02-08 Thread Lou Russo
Aloha All,

I have a client with a old Trace 4024 on a APT center. Everything has
worked great for over 20 years. He purchased a new washing machine from
Sears that does not want to work. The voltage at the outlet is 117 vac and
the Sears guy says that is the issue. When the system is running on the
genset (Northern Light 6kW Diesel) we get 121 vac and the washer runs fine.
That seems like a very tight voltage window and a issue with the washer not
the system. I have seen sensitive electronics go wacky with no N-G bound
maybe that is the issue? I did not install the system so I would have go
poke around. Any one out there have any ideas?

Re: [RE-wrenches] Conext SW 4024 with bad firmware

2016-12-29 Thread Lou Russo
Thanks to all for the input and suggestions, it is much appreciated. Just
to be clear about the situation, the inverter has already made the AC
transfer, which goes smoothly. The AC IN light is off. At this point the
generator is unloaded and there is no battery charging happening. The
inverter is carrying the loads. From what Schnieder tells me is that the
software is telling the inverter to follow the Hertz of the generator until
it's below 40 Hertz.

I do believe that manual start is best as it keeps the user in tune with
system. It is what I do at my own home. Unfortunately most clients want the
autostart and don't want to think about it. This is typically not deal
breaker for me and I will push a client only so far on it. In this
particular situation the system is 500 ft away from the home. So the
autostart is mandatory.

And Allan do you happen to know what the firmware version of the inverters
and AGS units are that you recently installed?

Oh and by the way I have come to find out that Sandra no longer works
there.

Thanks again for all the help

Lou,
I would add that this problem could be solved by removing any auto gen
start function and controlling the generator manually. Then the default
start/stop procedure is user-controlled: check monitor/start gennie/check
operation; when done, turn off charging at SCP/cool down/shut off gennie.
Voila! no low-hertz glitches. I have long discouraged auto-start in
residential off grid systems, recommending instead user involvement and
manual operation of the gennie.

I have installed several SW Conext systems, so far without a single issue
after commissioning. I applaud Schneider's efforts to turn the wreckage
that they paid Xantrex way too much for into a decent product line with
good support.

I've seen similar weirdness with many systems of various brands. The

Basically I suggest to my customers having similar problems to:
A) First, wait for the charge rate to come down, then
B) shut down any other large loads, (ie wait for the water pump to finish
pumping) then
C) manually switch the generator Breaker off, which allows a cleaner,
quicker transfer.

Some generators have a cool down period after being signaled to shut off,
which solves the problem, too. Having auto control just shut down the
generator hard under load is always going to be rough. I wouldn't blame it
all on Schneider, although it sounds like in your case the Conext is
extending the low frequency time period, and making it even worse.
A relay might fix the problem too: first have the relay transfer the loads,
and then send the signal to shut down the generator after.

Besides the firmware issue, I think you're noticing this problem more,
because of all the new arc fault junk in the house. IMHO, arc fault
shouldn't even be required on off grid systems with less than 70 amps
capacity. Unless they've recently changed the UL testing, arc fault
breakers need a min of 70 amp to even work properly. Of course they're
annoyingly easy to trip when the frequency and voltage get weird, so off
grid all those arc fault breakers are Not going to trip when they should,
but Will trip when they shouldn't. More waste of time and money off grid.
Again, just my opinion.

checked all my wiring at the inverter, then moved onto the various
buildings checking for redundant neutral to grounds, proper bonding, etc…
Surprisingly although not great workmanship everything is where it is
supposed to be. I decided to give the AC input on the inverter it's own
dedicated neutral as at this point I was reaching for straws and the
installation manual was unclear about this detail. Still nothing. A call to
Schnieder confirmed that there was no setting I was missing.

I placed another call to Schnieder tech support. They did and have
continued to answer the phone promptly. It did take a bit of chasing them
but I finally got a answer that there Level 3 folks can reproduce the
error. The inverter is following the frequency of the genset as it winds
down down to 40hrtz. This is after the AC transfer inside the inverter has
happened. During the cool down period everything is fine. This happens as
the genset is actual shutting off and spinning down to a stop. They say
this a firmware issue and that it will take months to push out as is needs
to be UL listed. In the meantime I have a pissed off client, her oven went
belly up on the low frequency voltage, there is concern about possible
unseen damage to her new water pump, and I wasted countless hours of my
own time attempting to make the situation right. All of this due to a
firmware that was released with a fatal flaw and can not be changed for
months.

I am extremely disappointed in Schneider. I have been hesitant use them
over the years as I was still scarred from the Xantrex days. My “beta” test
went will with a early version I installed 2 years ago so I figured it was
a safe move. Obviously I was wrong. Lesson learned stick with Outback and
SMA.

So I have 2 questions for the list.

1.Has anybody else on the list seen this issue and corrected it regardless
of the firmware? I have installed one other conext sw about 2 years ago
when it first came out. The setup is very similar except that it is 48V and
has a very old firmware. I went out to this old site to confirm all is well
and it is fine.

2.Does anybody have a good contact at Schneider that could be of help? I
tried to contact Sandra Herrera as she was a great help years ago, but her
phone number no longer works.

3.Does anybody have an old version of the Conext firmware lying around they
could point me to? The website does not seem to have old versions.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Schnieder, if you have a presence here contact me.

[RE-wrenches] Midnite Classic and SMA's Sunny Portal

2016-08-02 Thread Lou Russo
Wrenches,

Do any of you have any experience with the Classic 150's data integration
on the Sunny Portal using the SMA WebBox, a Sunny Island, and Midnite's
MNSICOMM com box? If so, is it usable/readable to the end-user in the Sunny
Portal? Midnite's manual says it is, but I wanted real world confirmation.
I have an existing system that is 1.5 yrs old using the above components
(sans WebBox). The Sunny Island and the Classic seem to play nice as far as
charging correctly, just curious if that "niceness" extends to the data
logged and displayed in the Sunny Portal. The clients currently have no
monitoring in their home and would like to add that feature. I am leaning
towards just using MyMidnite2 and the Local App (as I often do), but I am
curious what else is out there in this application.

[RE-wrenches] Net 30 Terms scam to be aware of...

Wrenches,

Quick heads up...I got a email ,supposedly from Ferris University in

was a hoax. I decided to take it a bit further and ask for references to

supply houses. I didn't take it any further. When speaking to the real
procurement officer he said they have seen this before with office
equipment but recently the operation has moved on to renewable energy
equipment.

It was all pretty obvious what was happening, just thought I would spread
the word.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Outback OpticsRe

2015-12-19 Thread Lou Russo
I installed the most recent firmware (2079) on my 2 - Classic 200s, which
allows use of the new my midnite website (www.mymidnite2.com). The biggest
change is the addition of the WizBangJr data. Which is a great addition and
has been working well for the past 14 hrs. Also more detailed reporting of
the classic itself is a nice addition (Serial #, firmware version, mac
address, and device ID). It still lacks the client login feature, but
otherwise a great improvement.

2015-12-18 Thread Lou Russo
Bob,

Yes I am referring to to the old My Midnite. I saw the firmware update last
week, but I have not had a chance to check it out. My biggest gripe was the
lack of a admin setup, so that I could have all my systems in one place and
give my clients logins to see their own system. The data actual comes
pretty fast, unlike the Schneider web product (Conext Insight) which only
polls every 10 minutes, but they have the admin/user account thing nailed.

[RE-wrenches] Outback OpticsRe

2015-12-17 Thread Lou Russo
Wrenches,

I have several existing off-grid sites that now require remote monitoring.
All of the systems are Outback FX series inverters with hubs, original
Mates, and relatively easy WAN access. I keep coming back to Outback's
OpticsRE as a option. I have been disappointed in most manufacture's
attempts at web interfaces (Midnite, Schneider, Etc..), so I am hesitant to
commit. Does anybody out there have direct experience with multiple
off-grid sites with OpticsRE? I saw 2 threads from July and last week, but
no real in depth discussion around reliability, ease of use for the client,
logging, control, troubleshooting, etc.. so any detailed real world
experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Wrenches,

Anybody out there using the GEDA Solarlift (or any other lift for that
matter)? If so what is your opinion of it? Setup time seems a little long,
but it could easily make up for it in safety and array installation time.
Any input is appreciated.

Past Wrenches discussions only seem to talk about lifts in general.

[RE-wrenches] Sub-Metering

2015-03-19 Thread Lou Russo
Aloha Wrenches,

I am putting together a proposal for a grid-tied system on a 8 unit
apartment building, that has yet to be built. There will be 1 utility meter
for the entire building with building owner sub metering for each unit.
Does anyone have any input on a simple and affordable outdoor rated
metering setup, not including the standard utility meter? I am have found
the following products:

http://www.leviton.com/OA_HTML/SectionDisplay.jsp?section=37716&minisite=10251

http://www.elkor.net/product/WattsOn-Mark_II (Not sure of the enclosure
on this one)

Any insight or addition products would be greatly appreciated.

Re: [RE-wrenches] SnapNrack

2013-05-31 Thread Lou Russo
Hands down my favorite to use. Ditto what Daryl says. Wire management is a
breeze. Stamped engineering for my state makes the AHJ happy. Clean lines.

My only gripe is that the ends of the rails tend to be VERY tight making it
tough to install their universal end-clamp if you are in a precarious
position on the roof. I use my linemen's pliers in reverse to spread the
ends out before sending them up.

3 years of use and this is my only complaint.

[RE-wrenches] Batteries and customer service

2013-03-15 Thread Lou Russo
Hello Wrenches,

This is my first go around here in the mailing list. I ve been a "lurker"
for years, I much appreciate all the insight you all have provided.

Here is the situation:

I have a client with 12 Interstate UL16HCs (24v system, 3 x 4 battery bank)
purchased and installed exactly 12 months ago. After 5 months of being
installed he thought one of the batteries may be going bad because of some
minor corrosion on one terminal and one cell was not using as much water as
all the rest . So I disconnected that string after a full charge and let it
rest for 8 hours. I then checked the specific gravity with the
refractometer as well as the voltage of each battery. Everything looked
fine. I called the Interstate warehouse let them know the situation and
asked what they could do for me, they said "nothing" of course. So nothing
happened. Fast forward. After speaking to another wrench (I am always up
for clients getting more info) who mentioned something about a bad batch of
batteries that Interstate received around the time of installation, my
client wants to do something. I know the first part of the following
question has been hashed out in some detail already, the second part is the
most important here...

Assuming the one battery is bad, is it worth it to replace the one battery
at this stage and call it good? If not, should I
or Interstate be responsible for replacing the whole battery bank?

Thanks for any and all insight.

Cheers,

Lou
