Re: [RE-wrenches] partial data loss Mate 3s

2022-10-25 Thread Tuss, Lones via RE-wrenches
Hello Mac
Thanks for taking my phone call and providing the optics site name.
In looking at the site there does seem to be strange things occurring.
I am noticing missing fields on the optics site the Multiphase heading for the
Mate3S on the Device Map is missing. Also, as I see the AGS information does
seem to vary. I have not seen this behavior before. I would ask that you have
the customer depower the Mate then repower it back up. Please let me know when
the customer does this. If it keeps happening, I can only assume it was somehow
damaged by the lightening. I am curious if the AGS setting as displayed on the
Mate3S itself are changing. If they are not perhaps the Optics processor on the
Mate3S is suspect.
But I will continue to monitor. I will say once programmed I have never seen
the AGS setting change in this manner. Interesting.
I hope this helps.
Thank you for using Optics it sure does help when situations arise.
Take Care Sir

Hello Wrenches,

I am trying to figure out a tricky problem. I have a customer with a Mate 3s,
most current firmware 1.4.7 paired with a radian and a couple of FM60s and some
Lithium batteries. We have experienced partial data loss, particularly of the
Mate 3s generator start parameters. These parameters seem to go back to
defaults and it defaults to an AGS disabled state.

At first I thought it was due to electrical storms, because we've had quite a
bit of lightning lately, but now I'm not sure. The Cat6 run is about 80' or
something like that, so it could be some induction.

Anyone seen anything like this? Same parameters were lost from first data loss
to following data loss. Kind of strange. I haven't visited the site so I may
not b getting the full picture.

Thanks

Re: [RE-wrenches] Radian Generator Relay

2021-09-14 Thread Tuss, Lones
Hi Michael
This is where a direct conversation is good I tried to call but could not
connect.
I thought you were using the AGS program on the Mate3S.
If you are in the set up in the AGS you can point it at the
Radian relay
Or the
Radian 12 volt aux
If you want you can also point it to the port containing the FNDC
Of course you will have to wire it to the proper source

When your customer want to start the gen
Press the Gen button on the Mate3S
select ON
The FNDC rely will close and the gen should start
Select Off
The relay will open
Gen should stop
Select Auto
And the preset run conditions in the AGS will be valid.
I hope this helps.

I did not check whether or not the 12v relay was functional.
I think I see where you are going. If the 12V relay isn’t working also, then
the issue is elsewhere? Is that correct?

I did look into using the FNDC relay, however it appears that it’s control is
through the FNDC menu. Things are so simple when all my client has to do to
control the generator is push the GEN button and choose a mode. Searching for
the FNDC menu adds a layer of complexity.
However,
What I’m seeing is that the board that the relay is on is part of a stack
boards that costs 2K. So, it sounds like my options are to check to see if the
12v relay functions and then use that to drive a relay, or use the FNDC relay,
or spend 2k for the board stack.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Radian Generator Relay

2021-09-14 Thread Tuss, Lones
Hi Michael
It sound like you are using the 12 volt aux out on the radian to activate a
separate relay.
If so disconnect the relay then check and see if the 12 aux attempts to go high
(12v dc).
If it does it may be a relay issue.
The Radian does have an on board relay you could use that instead of a discrete
relay.
In AGS on the Mate3(s) just select Relay.
I hope this helps sir.

Hello Sir
The FM100AFCI will need to paired up with a Mate3S.
The FM100 has on board ground Fault Detection so the GFDI used with the FM60/80
is not required Please see page 13 in the manual below.
https://outbackpower.com/downloads/documents/charge_controllers/flexmax_100_afci/fm100_afci_manual.pdf
There are 300 vdc rated breakers available due to the higher dc voltages
possible on the array.
The breaker part numbers are listed on page 15 in the above manual.
I hope this helps.

Hi.

We have a 24V bi-modal outback system that run the residential wiring labs for
the electrical program I teach. Long story short, the FM60 we are currently
using had an operator error and we need to get a new charge controller. Can the
FM100 Work “seamlessly” with an older outback systems? Wire sizes and array
sizes all work out according to the data sheets and documents I’ve read. Is
there any unforeseen issues with the MATE3 or optics RE that would come up if
we upgrade to the 100? The Higher array VOC for the 100 will make the labs
easier to set up, that’s why I’d like to get the 100.

Thanks,

Jesse

Hi Wrenches, I have a client with an Outback GVFX3524 inverter that has had a

here. Is this a field replaceable item? I know the boards are but not sure
about the fan. Any info much appreciated, thanks.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Load imbalance issues with SolArk?

2021-02-04 Thread Tuss, Lones
Hi Jay
Hi Larry
The X240 is a 4000 watt transformer it is also available in the PSX-240
Both can be used as a step up, a step down or a balancing xfmr.

Below is a link to the manuals.
https://www.outbackpower.com/resources/documents/product-documentation/item/autotransformer-technical-documentation
Balancing transformer is not required by the Radian or the FXR inverters.
I was used in the older FX series usually as a step up/balancing Xfmr.
In step up operation it allows a single inverter to be on and will provide a
second ac voltage of the opposite phase. If 2 inverters L1 and L2 were present
it would load balance which allowed the least used phase to contribute to the
most used phase.

It can still be used as step up with a single FXR inverter meaning a single
unit and the X240 will provide two phases L1 and L2 with 180 degrees of phase
separation. It will not work as a load balancing xfmr using the FXR inverter.
With the FXR we lost the load balancing ability. What we gained was the ability
to sell back in a multi inverter stacked system, the 7 modes available from the
Radian and Selling with in a 3 phase 120/208 system up to a 9 inverters.
I hope this helps.

Hi Larry

I’m not so sure about that. The X-240 doesn’t work with the Radian or FXR
versions. IE it won’t balance the loads so that the inverter sees a balance on
L1/L2.

It did do this for the older FX versions.

240Vac loads stay on the main panel.

2021-02-04 Thread Tuss, Lones
Hello Kirpal
Hello Wrenches
This can be accomplished using the Mate3(s) and Flextime.
Flextime allows up to 3 modes in a 24 hour day.
Flextime uses a 24 hour clock to instruct a system to switch modes based on
time.
A good knowledge of the modes and how they work is helpful.
Results may vary depending on solar vs loads.
Below is a picture of a system set up to achieve your request.
Adjust the times to suit your individual needs.
The setting below are as follows
1800 to 1830 Grid Tied and sell enabled
1830 to 0700 Grid Zero (no sell and no charge from the grid)
0700 to 1800 Back Up (allowing the unit to pass through and charge)
Again a good knowledge of how the modes function and the charging triggers
(Re-Bulk and Re-Float) is helpful.
One of the advantages is this can be done via optics so fine tuning can be
accomplished by
monitoring the system over time as it goes through the various sequences.

Hi Folks
We have a scenario where we would like to control when our system sells power
back to the grid. Basically, we only want to sell back while the sun is
shining. We would like to stop selling based on programmed clock settings. I
know in HBX mode we can control when we buy from the grid, wondering if anyone
knows how to control if and when we sell to the grid, separate from voltage set
points. In this situation we basically don't want to sell hydro power back at
night.
We can create our own relay controls to prevent if we need to, but hoping
someone has a Mate controller based programming solution. I can't seem to find
it and at first glance Outback tech support didn't have an answer...It was a

Re: [RE-wrenches] Radian Charges 1 hour per calendar day

2021-01-08 Thread Tuss, Lones
Hello Drake
Have the customer initiate a new bulk cycle from the Mate3.
Do this by
Pressing the Charger button on the Mate3
Select Bulk Charge then Start Bulk.
This will initiate a full Bulk/Absorb Cycle as programmed in the inverter.
If the Absorb time is set to 2 hours that is what will happen.

By way of explanation the time on the absorb cycle is incremented up from zero
when the dc battery voltage is at or below the re-bulk voltage as programmed in
the inverter.
So if the batteries were at or below re-bulk for 1 hour that is all the time
that was incremented back onto the absorb timer.

Hello Wrenches,

An off grid, Radian / Mate 3 system we set up some years back has worked
flawlessly. The client is now reporting that his system will only go into
absorption charge for 1 hour per calendar day. The setting was previously to
absorb for 2 hours.

He has tried shutting off the generator and then restarting. The inverter will
connect, but not go into absorb.

During this cloudy period, he is only able to get the batteries to about
80 percent before he needs to leave the site for a week or so.

I finally go through to Outback, and they think it is a Firmware problem. As it
is a long drive out, it seems worth while to run it by the list. Does FW this
seem like the issue?

Thank you,

Hi Jon
Not much to go on here the suggestion to look for damaged relays is probably a
good idea.
Look to see if there is signs of arcing or the relay covers have a smokey
appearance.
You stated the system has worked for the last week and the AGS has gone through
several start stop sequences and the system error has not repeated.
It might be interesting to see if there were any warning in the event log
perhaps that would give more clues.
It is difficult to be certain when the system is currently functioning.
Sorry that is all I have.

Hey wrenches,

I have a client who has a couple of the Radian 8048's and has an error code of
"AC Backfeed Error GS-1". Looking at the manual it states that "Usually
indicates another AC power source (out of phase with the inverter) was
connected to the unit’s AC output. Can also occur if an out-of-phase AC source
is connected to the inverter’s AC input."

However when this happened the generator wasn't running and it's an off grid
system. Is there a way that the master is looking to the slave as another power
source? The system had been running fine this week, auto running the generator
early morning and shutting down on its own.

Anyone seen something like this before? Thanks,

Hi Bill
Well the FNDC can monitor up to 3 shunts. Individual shunt can be viewed grand
total can be viewed on the Mate3(S).
During our phone conversation you mentioned the Mate3(S) was down stairs with
the rest of the gear.
2 thoughts.

1
Run an extra cat5 cable upstairs so the mate can be moved upstairs for viewing
leaving a shorter cable downstairs to be plugged in if you are working in front
of the equipment.

2
If you do want to use the trimetric the shunt would need to be located
somewhere in the final dc run to the batteries. I would suggest directly at the
battery connection point.
I hope this helps take care sir.

Wrenchers,

I tried asking OB about this, no response. New FlexPwer2 installed
in customer's basement, I like to keep the Mate with the system because the
basement is my access point for future programming, troubleshooting, etc
(rather than entering the house which many times is unoccupied)...no internet

To have some system status info in the house for the customer I
would like to install a Trimetric 2030 upstairs. This looks a bit tricky with
three shunts in the DC enclosure to monitor various in/outputs for the FNDC to
function and display info properly for the Mate. Where-o-where might the sense
wire be connected to properly measure NET amps flowing hither and fro to supply
the correct info for the Trimetric? The picture should help, the two cables
coming off the bottom (right side) of shunt "B" are inverter negs.

Friends:

I installed a Flexmax 100 today in a dual FX system circa 2003. The system has
an oval Mate and it is no surprise the old Mate does not communicate with the
FM100 as this was made clear from the literature.

I plugged in a new Mate3S directly into the FM100 hoping to connect and see
data, but alas, the display was almost entirely blank. It only showed the
battery voltage which was 500 volts, which I guess is a promotion.

I then tried plugging the FM100 into a Hub 10.3 and then into the Mate3S.
Still no display.

I’d like to field-check the FM100 with a Mate3 or 3S but don’t know how. It
used to be you could plug an MX60 into a Mate and get some semblance of
normality displayed. Can I swap out the old hub with a 10.3 with the inverters
connected and get FM100 data? Any ideas out there?

Thanks in advanced.

William

PS: The FM100 is charging so that is not an issue.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Mate3 verses Mate3S

2020-10-02 Thread Tuss, Lones
Hello Tump
You may want to go into the aux setpoints on the inverter being used to signal
a gen run condition and check to see
how it is programmed. It could be that the aux is being instructed to turn on
by the aux setpoints as set in the inverter.
If AGS tells it to turn on great but if inside the inverters aux programming
some parameters are being met that tell the 12 volt aux to active then
seemingly random gen runs can occur.
Depending on age and the firmware of the inverter there are 9 or more
programmable conditions that can trigger the 12 volt aux. At one point there
was a setpoint called Remote which told the inverter some other device other
than you is in control of your auxiliary output.
If you do not see a Remote setting you might try setting the inverters aux to
Vent Fan then set the trigger point (Battery Voltage) to a condition that is
impossible to achieve. I have a 48 volt system and I can set the Vent Fan
trigger point up to 72VDC this will ensure the AGS is the only way the 12 volt
Aux can be activated.
I left a message on your phone if you continue to have issues please call me.
Take Care Sir

Subject: [RE-wrenches] Mate3 verses Mate3S

I have a client w/ 8 stack of older VFX3648s, Off Grid. Presently connected to
a Mate 3 & older hub 10. The generator run time/shut down time is never the
same, sometimes 10+ hours of running while the inverters in “silent” mode. Gen
stays running despite full batteries, confirmed by battery voltage & using my
refractometer.
The only "gen trigger" is battery voltage. I have cleared the history
repeatedly & updated the Mate3 FW.
Is there any conflict replacing the Mate 3 with the Mate 3S in an older system?
I will be also changing out the Hub as well. Thoughts/suggestions

Re: [RE-wrenches] Outback shipping issues

2020-08-13 Thread Tuss, Lones
Hello All
Network housekeeping impacted the forum. Our move to Phoenix is almost
entirely complete and did not impact Order Entry/Acceptance/Lead Times. Our
Applications Engineering, Technical Support, and Development Engineering teams
remain in Washington state. We're not aware of any suppliers who haven't
gotten shipping costs and delivery dates.

Hi all

A supplier of mine that buys directly from OB has not been able to get shipping
costs or delivery dates for almost 2 weeks now.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks

Jay
