Re: [RE-wrenches] Mate3 verses Mate3S

2020-10-02 Thread Roy Butler

Tump,

I have a system exactly like this one and had similar AGS issues.
Once we ruled out conflicts between the internal Aux commands and
the AGS menu in the Mate,
we eventually figured out it was heat related. We were using the top
inverter on one of the quad stacks for AGS and that inverter ran
hotter than the others. The
genset would start as expected but the shutdown was extremely
erratic, sometimes running for 10-15 hours if someone didn't catch
it right away.

The problems stopped when we moved the AGS function to the bottom
inverter. Such a simple solution that took far too long to figure
out. I hope the solution
to your issue turns out to be as simple (and cheap!) as mine.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Mate3 verses Mate3S

2020-10-02 Thread Ray
I know its not the same equipment, but we recently had a Magnum
autostart doing strange things, and it turns out we had it set up for
the wrong generator configuration.  With all the different types of
starting configurations on all the different generators, strange things
can happen.

We're actually considering taking the advice of a recent Wrench post,
and declaring that our insurance doesn't cover AGS.  If it starts when
it shouldn't and possibly contributes to a fire? very bad.  If it
doesn't start when it should and causes refrigerated food to spoil and
heating systems to go down? also very bad.

I get more call backs for AGS, then any other thing, and its usually a
generator issue (which we didn't sell).

Depending on age and the firmware of the inverter there are 9 or more

Hi all,
I've inherited a system where the Mate3 is not saving data
to the SD card. Has anyone seen this before? In the Mate3
settings, it is set to download data to excel every minute and
save the last maximum days. I've tried two different SD cards.
I was able to successfully update firmware with the SD card.
But there are never any logfiles on there.

Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Hello Mr. Dahl
I believe a Firmware update will be required. Down load the latest Firmware
from the OutBack Website onto an otherwise empty SD card. Insert the SD card in
the Mate3 then power it up.

If you press and hold the UP button it will force an update.
After the update is complete it might be a good idea to clear the Internal Data
Logs.
Press Lock
Enter the password 141
select Settings then System
Scroll down to
Clear Internal Data Log
Then choose yes.
This should get you up and running.

Jesse:

You may have an intermittent Ethernet connection. Pressure on a button may
move the Mate3 chassis in a subtle amount, but enough to disturb the
connections to the device. I suggest you try a temporary, factory made or
known good Ethernet cable.

You might want to be very careful that you don't accidentally plug the hub
cable into the internet port. I believe it is possible that you could
damage the internet port by doing so.

All,

We have a MATE3 on campus that resets each time you press a button to leave the
main screen. For example, we will press the "charger" button followed by
pressing the "graph" button, at this point the screen will stall. The other
buttons won't work at this point and the MATE will shut off and restart.

[RE-wrenches] MATE3 Inverter Mode

2011-10-30 Thread Orion Thornton
Hi Wrenches,

I was hoping I may be able to get some guidance on navigating through the
new MATE3 controller. We have a customer that swapped out their original
MATE for the MATE3 in order to have access to on-line monitoring of their
system, since it is a part time residence with limited access and
unoccupied in the winter.

Since the new controller was installed they have had issues with the AGS.
I was on site last Friday and was able to sort out the AGS issues, at least
I thought I had. I left the site with the generator charging the
batteries. After the generator had ran for about 5 hrs and the battery
voltage read 51.5 volts the customer called concerned that the generator
had not shut down after the charge reached a float level. They turned the
generator off and at that point lost half the loads in the house because
the slave inverter had shut down. I can see that the inverter mode is
“off” through the on-line monitor.

I will probably be heading back up to the site tomorrow for more
troubleshooting, but at this point I would really like to be able to guide
the customer through getting the secondary inverter turned back on so they
have all their loads powered up without running the generator. This is
the first time I have worked with the MATE3 and have searched high and low
through the manual to try and find how I can access the mode setting for
the slave inverter, so that I can turn it back on, but I have found
nothing. If it was a weekday I am sure an Outback tech could send me in
the right direction, but I am hoping someone out there in the wrenches
world has got the MATE3 dialed in.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: [RE-wrenches] MATE3 Inverter Mode

2011-10-30 Thread Orion Thornton
Thanks Jay,

Just got off the phone with Darren at Outback. It sounds like the issue is
that the Stacking Mode for the Slave inverter is set as OB Slave L1, and
should be OB Slave L2. This is causing the slave inverter to go into a
power save mode.

The system is 120/240 at the house panel, single phase, no balancing
transformer. 240 VAC off the Kohler generator.

Jason,

If LBCO is 46.00 and the 2 minute start is 47.2.
When the voltage goes below 47.2 the 2 minute start timer
would begin to count down. When the voltage reaches 46.00 the
five minute LBCO voltage timer starts. Because the 2 minute
timer will expire in 2 minutes and even if the warm-up time
was 4 minutes, the inverter would still engage the Aux
Output to start the genset and charge the batteries.

If there is a case if the LBCO occurs before the
AGS 2 minute start is activated that the generator will not
start because after the load is dropped the voltage would
rise above the 2 minute start voltage. This case is easily
resolved by programming the LBCO below the 2 minute start
voltage.

Even if you have hit LBCO and the inverter has
shut off the AGS function still works and will engage the
relay (via the aux port) to start the Generator.

This reminded me of another subject about the
MATE3.

I was surprised to find out that advanced
generator start does not work properly if the batteries
reach LBCO before the 2 minute start timer fires the
generator with an external relay attached to one of the
inverters. The AGS settings are stored in the MATE3, so it
tries to tell the inverter to trigger the external relay
once the 2 minute voltage has been reached, but if LBCO has
been reached, the inverter will not supply voltage to the
coil.

This logic does not work. Lets say you have LBCO
set to 46.0V and the 2 minute start voltage set to 47.2V.
Under a very heavy load, it is completely plausible that the
LBCO could be met before the AGS via the inverter has time
to start the generator. The only solution is to have an
unacceptably high (IMHO) spread between the 2 minute start
and the LBCO.

In this case, I dont want to set the LBCO too
low (i.e. default) because the system is unattended and if
the generator does not start for whatever reason, it is
reasonable to expect that the battery voltage could slowly
decrease to the LBCO and then stay there for a long period
of time until the problem is discovered. I want to keep the
LBCO relatively high, but I want the generator to reliably
start using start timers, SOC, or load. I think this is a
poor implementation of this feature, leading me to consider
a completely separate or auxiliary AGS system that is
voltage dependent without relying

In this case, I don't want to set the LBCO too low (i.e. default) because the
system is unattended and if the generator does not start for whatever reason,
it is reasonable to expect that the battery voltage could slowly decrease to
the LBCO and then stay there for a long period of time until the problem is
discovered. I want to keep the LBCO relatively high, but I want the generator
to reliably start using start timers, SOC, or load. I think this is a poor
implementation of this feature, leading me to consider a completely separate or
auxiliary AGS system that is voltage dependent without relying on the inverter
relay to start the generator.

Steve,

That is not what is happening. Are you saying that the inverter aux
port should still work if LBCO is reached? It does not, and I was told
otherwise by Outback Tech Support. Is the LBCO delay programmable? I do
not see that documented.

Please contact me off list so we can resolve this particular issue.

Jason,

If LBCO is 46.00 and the 2 minute start is 47.2. When the voltage goes
below 47.2 the 2 minute start timer would begin to count down. When the
voltage reaches 46.00 the five minute LBCO voltage timer starts. Because
the 2 minute timer will expire in 2 minutes and even if the warm-up time
was 4 minutes, the inverter would still engage the Aux Output to start
the genset and charge the batteries.

If there is a case if the LBCO occurs before the AGS 2 minute start is
activated that the generator will not start because after the load is
dropped the voltage would rise above the 2 minute start voltage. This
case is easily resolved by programming the LBCO below the 2 minute start
voltage.

Even if you have hit LBCO and the inverter has shut off the AGS function
still works and will engage the relay (via the aux port) to start the
Generator.

This reminded me of another subject about the MATE3.

I was surprised to find out that advanced generator start does not work
properly if the batteries reach LBCO before the 2 minute start timer
fires the generator with an external relay attached to one of the
inverters. The AGS settings are stored in the MATE3, so it tries to tell
the inverter to trigger the external relay once the 2 minute voltage has
been reached, but if LBCO has been reached, the inverter will not supply
voltage to the coil.

This logic does not work. Let's say you have LBCO set to 46.0V and the 2
minute start voltage set to 47.2V. Under a very heavy load, it is
completely plausible that the LBCO could be met before the AGS via the
inverter has time to start the generator. The only solution is to have
an unacceptably high (IMHO) spread between the 2 minute start and the
LBCO.

In this case, I don't want to set the LBCO too low (i.e. default)
because the system is unattended and if the generator does not start for
whatever reason, it is reasonable to expect that the battery voltage
could slowly decrease to the LBCO and then stay there for a long period
