How? I've tried >make uninstall but the problem persists when I install again? Where did you put it? Don't install custom material to system locations. Always build with --prefix=/usr/local/package-1.2.3 (or /opt, or other location as you deem appropriate). Then "uninstalling" is usually just a matter of deleting one directory, and you can easily run or test multiple versions of anything you like. In the case of licq, you can probably just ignore whatever you've done, and rebuild as above. Then just put the new one in your PATH ahead of system locations. /usr belongs to the distributor of your OS; don't mess with it, in most cases. You'll thank yourself, and won't ever have to utter the term "uninstall" again. internal vs. external dns
currently we define 'abc.org' on an internal network, while at the same time 'abc.org' is defined for the outside world by the isp, who defines the mx and the webhost seen by the outside world. this framework works for the most part, but is there some way within this framework to define 'www.abc.org' on the internal network to be some kind of cname that refers to the www.lrei.org defined by the isp? so far, i only see the options of either giving the literal address in the zone file, or, recasting the setup to define 'sub.abc.org' as the internal domain. second question: can 'abc.org' somehow be defined to list the machine running named as the nameserver, but otherwise, list some other machine as the resolution of 'abc.org'? As for loction, /tmp needs to either be part of the root partition or have its own partition. For starters, upgrade to a current sendmail. The current release disables relaying by default. Then, to allow relaying for specific hosts, you need to add them to the relay-domains file. I did a quick google search, and came up with info here: http://www.freebsddiary.org/relay.php http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-7.2-Manual/ref-guide/s1-email-s endmail.html So, the bottom line is to you need to do: 1) upgrade sendmail using up2date 2) If you're server.org, you're done 3) If you're not server.org, add the entry to relay-domains and restart sendmail 4) If you never want to access any mail from badguy.com (relay or not), add him to /etc/mail/access and restart sendmail Ed Wilts Mounds View, MN, USA mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ Redhat-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list

Just a clarification: NIS+ and NIS are different things, and are conceptually just about as different as Active Directory and NT4 domains. NIS+ has facilities for heirarchical definition of users and administrative privilege, where NIS is much more like the flat model in NT4 domain--without the ability to add trusts. If you're running a small set of machines where the users' passwords don't need to change often, keeping /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow is reasonably workable. You will have to ensure that your users only change passwords on the "main" machine that contains the password file that you consider the master copy... One of the nice features is resumable downloads. If I decide at 4:45 on a work day that I want a pile of bytes from the Internet, I will start the download and let it run until I leave. When I arrive at the office the next morning with the trusty laptop in hand, I can start the download where it left off the previous evening. Microsoft has something called IEAK, or the Internet Explorer Administration Kit. From the little bit of exploration I've done it seems primarily aimed at building specialized installers of IE--so folks like BT can ship aweb browser with default home page on CDROM. I suspect that there are quite a few more capabilities in the tool than that. > Internet Exploiter seems to > put a higher priority on file extensions than on MIME types when > opening documents, so if it ends in .exe, there's nothing your server > can say that will convince the browser to not try to run it, if that's > what it's configured to do. Windows 2000 Group Policies will almost certainly allow you to manipulate these settings. If not, implementing custom group policy extensions will. In any case the recent security patches IE's huge Content type labelling problems have changed how Microsoft implemented its content handling. Microsoft was finally forced to admit how large the security hole was... I don't think it will automatically run a .exe any more. Hmmm, maybe getting that Win2k MCSE was useful for something. It's kind of cool that it was contributing to a Linux list. ;-) Alan -- Alan Peery [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ Redhat-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list

Have you simply tried zip /path/to/files/*.* zipfile.zip? Re: Ethernet help [repost #1]
I looked up your IP address on http://www.arin.net/cgi-bin/whois.pl and it returned: [snip] Netname: COVAD-IP-2-NET Netblock: 66.134.0.0 - 66.134.255.255 [...] NS1.LASERLINK.NET208.230.117.66 NS2.LASERLINK.NET208.230.117.67 [...] Reassignment information for this block of addresses can be found at rwhois://rwhois.laserlink.net:4321/ [snip] Since this is a commercial entity, and I very much doubt you are an employee but rather a customer who has been assigned a 29-bit subnet block (8 static IP addresses, right?) as evidenced by your netmask of 255.255.255.248. This would mean that your network address is 66.134.88.32, your broadcast address is 66.134.88.39, and one of the IP addresses from 66.134.88.33 to 66.134.88.38 is your gateway. Usually, (in 3 of the 3 ISPs with which I have dealt for 29-bit subnets, being Qwest and 2 local Tucson ISPs) in this configuration, the gateway is the next highest IP to the broadcast address, which, in your case would be gateway=66.134.88.38. Try that. If that doesn't work, go through sequentially and try them all in your block (the other 5 addresses for gateway, that is). For further assistance *only if* this is something like your config *and* you have xDSL thru Covad or subsidiaries, could I help you further *if* you provide the following: To what is your network card connected? If it's a Cisco 6xx DSL router, I can definitely help. There are tests you can do on the router, if that's what you have, to see if it's working. However, this kind of help would be *MAJORLY OFF TOPIC* for this list, so please email me privately at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Michael --- "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > It was suggested that I try changing netmask to 255.255.255.0.
