I doubt that it's an option because I never turned it on. I subscribed
and that's all. I've been on this list and the announce list for 3 years
and the install list for 1-1/2. I only started getting the reminders when
the list management setup changed.

I am surprised after this long thread that no one has offered the
info that with Mailman the option of sending out monthly password
reminders is only available to the list adminisrator.
It is his decision whether to burdon his mail system with these
monthly reminders, so if it was turned on I suspect there would
be just as many asking why all these monthly messages for each list
reminding them of their passwords etc.

Let me count my lists: redhat, guinness, zoot, hedwig, watch, announce,

Perhaps this is a mailman configuration option? But since I don't have

I haven't looked at the Red Hat pages, but for most mailman

Yeah this whole system is pretty screwed. Is this RedHats
answer to getting a captive audience?

Before anyone suggests filtering my mail, why should I have
to? You would think that one of the largest Linux
distributors could get something like a mail list going --
but then again you would also think that any organisation
these days would be bothered with answering e-mails, even
Adobe do!

All MoonGroup does is keep archives and make them searchable... MoonGroup

The archive location is:

Help for Redhat-list mailing list:

Note that much of the following can also be accomplished via the World

In particular, you can use the Web site to have your password sent to
your delivery address.

List specific commands (subscribe, who, etc) should be sent to the

words in "[]" denote OPTIONAL items. Do not include the "<>"s or
"[]"s when you use the commands.

The following commands are valid:

subscribe [password] [digest-option] [address=]
Subscribe to the mailing list. Your password must be given to
unsubscribe or change your options. When you subscribe to the
list, you'll be reminded of your password periodically.
'digest-option' may be either: 'nodigest' or 'digest' (no

Heres the deal, I have tried to unsubscribe using the normal
methods via email. But I get errors coming back each
time. I have gone to https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
but each time I get refused entry, apparently I am not

I have been to moongroup but the redhat list isn't even

I have been trying to get off this damned mailing list for

I have even tried emailing RedHat support for help, and got
none -- of course (no replies even).

My version of IE on Macintosh opens the page just fine.

Ok - well - there's a warning message I had to read saying that the
certificate is not valid and I must revert to a non-secure connection
- but if I say "Continue" rather than "Stop" (when it comes down to
it I'm not really concerned if it's insecure 'cos I'm unsubscribing
anyway) then I get to the page and can manage my account (albeit
without SSL encryption)

so, persevere... and the divine prize of unsubscription will be thine...

lots of browsers including those run on windows will not open a self signed
site, keep in mind that the list server also accepts commands by mail.

It was said that a cert will be bought at some stage, things take time ...
a non SSL option could be helpful, a modification to the footer describing
unsubscription by email may be better however.

I believe the host uses a self-signed SSL certificate. The original poster
mentioned having problems accessing his site from his Mac, and I have
noticed that several Mac browsers simply don't work with self-signed
certificates. (I won't single out any browsers in particular, but one with
the initials 'IE' has a particularly bad SSL implementation on the Mac.)

Maybe RedHat can provide a non-ssl version of the site? And the problem
will go away and we can return to our regularly scheduled program?

(SOLUTION FOR YOU?) GET ME OFF THIS *@$!^ LIST

2000-09-13 Thread Kirk

I would suggest that you visit this site, I went there and it seems to
work fine, it sent me my password. Go to the bottom of the page put in
your email address and then you will go to the next page and click, send
my password, when you get that go back to the same place and unsubscribe.

This address is at the bottom of every email from the list.

Use this webpage URL at the bottom of every message on this list:

https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list

If you don't know your password, go to the bottom of the page and
type in your email address, where it asks for it and have it mail
you your passwd.

Mailman is quite easy to use,

Hi All People,

I got the same problem too, trying to be off this list for 2 weeks without
success. I also tried with following without any result nor any reply
received.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject Password and email body
Password
[EMAIL PROTECTED]Subject "How to unsubscribe" and email
body "How to unsubscribe"
[EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject help and email bodyhelp
and also sent an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] asking for help
advising them the problem of "unsubscribe"

However no response of any kind ever received. Unfortunate I forgot my
password to unsubscribe from its website. Any assistance would be much
appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If worse comes to worse you can add the following to /etc/mail/access

[EMAIL PROTECTED] 550 Unable to unsubscribe from list

This will bounce the mail back to redhat.

I do agree with you on this, and I guess you could try sending an email to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] with the subject "password" to retrieve your
password, and then write an email to the same address with the subject
"unsubscribe". Or just try "help".
But I must say needing a password to unsubscribe is a little laborious, and
not everybody knows that -request@domain is the place to go, so I
guess it should be easier if this address was mentioned in the footer.

CU O (o no we won't :) ),

Leonard.

GET ME OFF THIS *@$!^ LIST

2000-09-12 Thread Dan Donaldson

As I have noted elsewhere, the mechanism for unsubscribing is broken on the
browsers I can run on this (Macintosh) computer. People on the list have been
very helpful, but I want off, as I want off of the digest list and the install
list.

I've asked if there is a mechanism (as there should be - on the principle that
the medium [email] of the message should contain all necessary controls) whereby
I can unsubscribe via email. No response.

Surely someone out there reading this list is either an administrator or in
contact with list administration. HELP GET ME OFF THIS LIST!.

Please!?
