Re: PDA's and Linux
I have a Clie' T615C and love it. I use JPilot, though, not Gnome-Pilot. Even at that, I occassionally have to soft-set my Clie' to get it to synch. If you simply want to synch-and-save, then try JPilot. If you need the conduits for Evolution, then that's another matter. I understand that Gnome-pilot and pilot-link have to be tweaked or upgraded in some way for this on RH8 but I haven't done this. JAV On Sun, 2003-03-02 at 13:18, Richard S. I'm leaning toward the Tungsten, but I've heard that pilot-link and gnome-pilot are not quite up to the task of syncing with the Tungsten, which is important to me. Thoughts? -- Slainte, Richard S. Right now I'm torn between the Palm Richard Tungsten T and the Palm m515. I've just picked up a Sharp Zaurus SL-5500. Staples was clearing their floor models so I got it half-price, but full warranty. It will happily sync under Linux. I'm still adjusting to it (from the Apple Newton which still wins hands-down for handwriting recognition), so I'm having trouble giving you a full endorsement. However, my interest in astronomy lead me to get the Zaurus which will run Personal Sky Chart, a PDA version of XEphem, and I'm very happy with that. roland - -- PGP Key ID: 66 BC 3B CD Roland B. RE: PDA's and linux
You might want to consider a PDA with embedded Linux. You would save from having to load the OS that way. Don't have any experience with any personally, but a Google search turns up http://www.handhelds.org. Looks like a good place to start. Linux-mag just ran a review of the Sharp Zuarus PDA. Looks pretty impressive, you may want to check it out. http://developer.sharpsec.com/ Shaun -Original Message- From: pochy [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, February 22, 2002 12:17 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: PDA's and linux Hello guys: I just want to ask for an advise, I want ot buy a PDA but I want run linux on it, Dose some one can tell me few options of which PDA out there is good to run linux on it and a good web tutorial about the topic. Thaks all you for your help As another poster has already mentioned, handhelds.org is a good place to start. I personally have managed to successfully install linux onto a Compaq iPaq 3650, using the pixil distribution. I've been meaning to try out familiar and possibly pocketlinux, but haven't had time lately. Compaq is behind handhelds.org, and have agreed to repair any iPaq that you brick during an attempt to install linux on it, but you can't buy one with linux preloaded. Bummer.
