Re: [Repeater-Builder] Icom IC-RP4020 Power Problems
I've been unsuccessful getting parts for just about anything from ICOM. No longer are parts available for some of their HF and VHF transceivers, power supplies, and now for the IC-900/901 transceivers. I've wanted to get my ACC FC-900 controller and ICOM IC-900 band modules going with my Repeater, but necessary cables and connectors are no longer available from ICOM. Good Luck! I have an Icom IC-RP4020 (50 Watt Version) that has an intermittent transmit problem. The repeater works fine for weeks but then just dies; no power output at all (either by enabling it from the controller SEND or PTT from the local mike). I removed from the repeater rack and had it on the bench to attempt to locate the problem. At first there was no output but while looking around and pressing the LOCAL INHIBIT switch it came back to life. That switch shouldn't have effected anything I was doing. From the best I can deduce, the exciter is active during the failure. I was unable to measure the T8 voltage prior to it working again. All the components and traces look good on the PA module. The only strange thing I notice is that if the repeater has been inoperative for a while and things have had a chance to cool the output power is about 44 watts, after I hold down the PTT for about 30 seconds the power increases to about 50 watts. I tried to exercise the power adjustment pot to see if that might have gotten onto a bad spot, no effect. So, after all my rambling, has anyone seen a similar problem with any other Icom repeater? Re: [Repeater-Builder] Looking for info on DB products cans (6meter)
They will go without anything, I have the 38mhz 4set and they worked good on a tube transmitter but you will probably need 6 to go with transistor pa deck. Adding notch stubs will help but if you have only 4 you will have a lot of desense with silicon finals, try to keep your bottle finals going. [Repeater-Builder] Re: 900 mhz pa equip
I believe these are Class C, so they will work fine as FM or CW PAs-- probably at 100% duty cycle. They'd probably go like hotcakes for weak signal SSB if someone figures out a way to modify/use them in linear (Class A, AB1, AB2, B) service. It would obviously involve adding some bias circuitry, etc. I have a Motorola Purc 300W and a Glenayre 150W (both 900 MHz) that I'd love to be able to use that way. Way too much power for typical repeater PA use. Too big for paperweights or doorstops, wrong form factor for a boat anchor (and I don't own an ocean liner, anyway). If anybody knows how to mod these things for linear service, please share it. Thanks. 73, Vester N8EKA --- In Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com, Larry Williams [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Anyone know the value, if any, for 900 mhz pa units that came out of cellular sites. Randy, Ok I have cleared my head. This is the 6 can helical duplexer. To get it to 6 meter you will have to cut the harness. I will look to see if I can find my notes on this duplexer mod. Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: DB-224 Questions
Typically the SWR is pretty good at 440 without modifications. It wouldn't be worth the effort. As far as the modification for two meters, I'd cut and extend the elements before I'd add the bolts. The bolts seem to be a hokey modification to me. Your bigger problem is going to be the harness anyway. Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: DB-224 Questions
No need to. The DB-420 for 450-470 is also resonant enough to work from somewhere around 443.x and up.. Re: [Repeater-Builder] 900 mhz pa equip and other goodies
OK, guys, the amps are Spectrian ?DM-880-45/ NT3P21CD 850mhz?, black aluminum bout 12 inches long, 5 inches wide, 3 inches high, made to slide into rack. Also just found a UHF receiver, rack mount, looks like micor vintage, brown panel about 12 inches high(didn't see a model number) with antenna connector on back(SO-238) Got a couple of Standard RP-70, looks like UHF, (could be VHF, knowing Standard). One looks complete, minus case, other has been used for parts. Anybody interested, you can call me at 504-835-7722 up till about 7pm central time. Minimal charge(got to pay the guys to dig it back out of the dumpster) + shipping for whatever you want. I'll list other stuff as it's pulled off the shelves for sorting. russ wrote: What do you have? Make model, power in, power out.
