Re: [Repeater-Builder] UHF Duplexer Question

2004-10-06 Thread Leon Ingerick

I have had good luck with the TX/RX brand as well,
even at 250 watts with a gasfet preamp.

You should have no problem tuning a used TX/RX
duplexer from the 450-470 version to the 440 band.

I have several of these and they all work good.

[Repeater-Builder] R100 PA blown

2004-10-06 Thread jason mathis

Hello,

I am having trouble finding an m2519185 or a cross-reference. From
what I cal tell I think the mrf654 or 653 might work, but I am
working blind for I don't have a schematic. Which brings me to my
next question. Mounted on two of the transistor pins was a surface
mount component. I think it was a bias resistor from my limited
knowledge of PAs. Can any ID the surface mount. I can't find a
datasheet on the m2519. Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Re: [Repeater-Builder] UHF Duplexer Question

2004-10-06 Thread Eric Lemmon

Joe,

I recently installed a complete MTR2000 UHF 100 watt repeater for my
employer. The duplexer that came with the station was a Motorola
TLE9022, which is a premium version of the RFS/Celwave PD526-4-2. This
is a six-cavity duplexer that is specified at 120 dB isolation, minimum,
and 1.3 dB insertion loss, maximum. I confirmed by testing in my shop
that it met these specs, which are very good.

The MTR2000 UHF 100 watt PA comes with one built-in circulator, but I
ordered the station with the "triple circulator option" which adds a
shelf containing a dual isolator and a low-pass filter. The primary
load on the additional isolator has a thermistor which connects to the
station backplane, so that the power will be reduced if excessive
reflected power is detected.

In my opinion, you can't beat this combination. It is not easy to find
high isolation and low insertion loss in the same duplexer. Moreover,
some manufacturers claim higher performance than they deliver.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] UHF Duplexer Question

2004-10-06 Thread Neil McKie

I have discovered the manufacturer will tune the duplexer so it
meets the company specifications - but won't necessarily tune for
 maximum performance.

As Eric mentions below, he checked the duplexer for expected
 performance.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] UHF Duplexer Question

2004-10-06 Thread James

If you want to move a TX/RX used commercial (450-470) duplexer, you
should order the cable kit from them to be able to maintain good specs.
I moved one from 460.??? to 441.5 and it wouldn't make specs with the
shorter harness. I ordered the longer kit and it tuned up great.

WRONG number.. M25C19 10 watt UHF PA, or 10 watt driver in the 25
watt UHF stations. 48-80225C19. R1531 is 12k res., C1531 a 47pf chip
cap, are on the base-emitter.
( 185 refers to Motorola mfg.)

If you still have a problem, I repair them all the time.

[Repeater-Builder] Help in locating a DB-408 for the ham band

As per recommendations on this group I have settled on a DB-408 for

ends in locating one, new or used, to buy cut for the ham band. I
talked to Andrews to see if I could persuade them to build me a one-

settle for a "stick" antenna? I have also looked at the Maxrad open
dipole model which I can get for 440, but it seems like a bad deal,
its as much as a DB-408 new. The Sinclair is just too much $$ for th
budget. I want to get this project done before it gets really cold

You can also look at Telewave. They make one similar to Sinclair, but less
expensive.

However, I have yet to see one of the Decibel 450-460 versions that didn't
work just fine in the ham band. I'm running that band split and my repeater
is on 442.75. No problem at all.

Hi all, I was wondering if any of you are using this machine on the air, and if you had any bad experiences with them. Are they reliable? I just purchased one on the used market for a decent price, and was curious on the history of it. Also, I've noticed that if I connect my CAT-700 to it and unlock the controller, it still acts like it is in repeat mode - broadcasting the unmuted DTMF. It doesn't do this when the controller is locked. I am using the cor, audio in/outputs, etc. on the back of the unit. Hi Steaven,

I have been playing around with the GM300s for a couple of weeks now
with plans to use them as UHF link radios. In my humble opinion,
they are a nice little radio and should do a good job. This, of
course, will be proven or disproven in due time. Here are some of my
observations:

The heat issue can be a problem. Turning the power output down only
adds to the heat problem. Instead, I took Kevin's (and others')
advice and pulled and bypassed the final. The radio does about 3.5
watts this way. The output is very clean (I looked -70 dB and
didn't detect a thing) and stable. I observed this into load with a
1:1 SWR as well as a 2.5:1 SWR. Aside from the (still) moderate heat
produced, there were no detectable problems during a 35 minute
keydown period. To overcome the heat issue, I simply added a
computer processor fan to the back of the radio pair that triggers
on from the receiver's COR (or tone squelch) and shuts off one to
two minutes after the carrier or tone drops. (See Kevin's web site
for the circuitry)

My radios didn't display any significant drop in power until I tuned
down around the low end of 433 MHz.

The 16 pin connector has descriminator output, mic input, and PTT
available on it making interfacing quite easy.

The one drawback I have detected is the built in Tx delay. When
added to the inherrent delay from an aftermarket tone decoder, which
I am using on the VHF receiver married to this transmitter, the
overall delay borders on the undesirable. I have a GM300 service
manual and schematic en route, but without it I haven't determined a
work-around. I suspect this delay is intentional and can be altered
through minor component or circuitry changes.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Anybody have opinions on LDG voter?

2004-10-06 Thread skipp025

I agree, I have 13 LDG voters in service.

You should know the LDG and Hall voter cards are
not true signal to noise voters.

The Motorola, JPS and GE voters are true signal to
noise voters, the JPS voter in the digital domain.

They all work very well, the non sig-to-noise
voters can/do false vote if not set up well.

Scott,
After you pulled and bypassed the final, what was the lowest power you
could get out of it while still being stable? I'm thinking about doing
the same to a VHF maxtrac to use as an exciter for a cont duty PA, but
it only needs about 400mw to drive it to full output. Thanks.

Hi Steaven,

I have been playing around with the GM300s for a couple of weeks now
with plans to use them as UHF link radios. In my humble opinion, they
are a nice little radio and should do a good job. This, of course, will
be proven or disproven in due time. Here are some of my
observations:

The heat issue can be a problem. Turning the power output down only
adds to the heat problem. Instead, I took Kevin's (and others') advice
and pulled and bypassed the final. The radio does about 3.5 watts this
way. The output is very clean (I looked -70 dB and didn't detect a
thing) and stable. I observed this into load with a
1:1 SWR as well as a 2.5:1 SWR. Aside from the (still) moderate heat
produced, there were no detectable problems during a 35 minute keydown
period. To overcome the heat issue, I simply added a computer processor
fan to the back of the radio pair that triggers on from the receiver's
COR (or tone squelch) and shuts off one to two minutes after the carrier
or tone drops. (See Kevin's web site for the circuitry)

My radios didn't display any significant drop in power until I tuned
down around the low end of 433 MHz.

The 16 pin connector has descriminator output, mic input, and PTT
available on it making interfacing quite easy.

The one drawback I have detected is the built in Tx delay. When added to
the inherrent delay from an aftermarket tone decoder, which I am using

borders on the undesirable. I have a GM300 service manual and schematic

circuitry changes.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Tom,

I'm not sure of the exact model number... but I do
have a ham band designed and spec'd decibel UHF dual
2-section 408 antenna. The model with two 408's
stacked and it's a real nice monster.

Do you need the measurements for the harness
or some other item spec?

I'd sell it, but shipping would be expensive,
so a pickup in Northern CA would be the most
practical answer. Email me direct if you're
interested.
