Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: coax question

2005-07-31 Thread Glenn Little WB4UIV
In a duplex situation, you need as a minimum RG-214/U (must be the real
stuff with silver plating). This would be used from transmitter and
receiver to duplexer. From the duplexer to the antenna would depend on
distance. 7/8 hardline preferred, 1/2 hardline acceptable.

NO! Bad bad bad bad!

One should NEVER use these type cables in full-duplex service, as you're
just asking for trouble.

This is a topic that has reached dead horse status on this list and I'm
surprized any regular reader of it would even *suggest* using these types
of double shielded cables!

Hi Jerry,
I believe it is a CWID-51B. We have the ID chip programmed,
but are having a problem figuring out the terminal strip
assignments on the back. If we can get that information, it
will help out greatly, but if we need to repair the unit later,
the service manual will be of great importance. Thanks much !!

2005-07-31 Thread Mel Farrer

I built one up and while it worked OK with an external preamp, the crystal drift over temp was always a problem even with a wide temp range crystal and to keep the heat in check, I reduced the power to 10 watts. It worked about 95% with the problem above on dead cold and over 105 temp days.

Well, I'll toss FSJ1-50 into the mix. No worries about percentage of shield,
or bimetallic problems. It's 1/4 miniature hardline.

It connects nicely into PL-259 connectors with the larger adaptor, and into
N and BNC connectors. 100% shielding.

[Repeater-Builder] (slightly off topic)UHF Amplifier

2005-07-31 Thread Andrew
Does anyone has a (repeater duty) UHF amp that puts out about 50-
75watts continuous duty with around 3-15watts in? In decent condition
that will work in the 445-450 range. If anyone would be able to donate
one it would be very much appreciated. The reason for post is that I
am 14yrs old and the cash on my machine is tight (built totally by
myself). It would be nice to take some of the strain off of my current
transmitter and actually be heard. This is the last peice that I need
so I can lock the door on the cabinet and walk away. Any help, thanks

Is there a such thing as a duplexer for 10 meters??

Ever seen a Quonset hut? :)
6M duplexers are huge..
You might be as well off using coax stub duplexers. Someone was just talking
about those in the last week or two.

OTOH, if you can put your receiver and transmitter any appreciable distance
apart, and use two antennas and feedline, then you just need to wireline the
audio signals between them.

If you can procuretwo more GE's there is a mod out there to take a UHF and a Low-Band and set them up in crossband as just one unit. UseUHF as the link frequency between RX/TX. I believe NHRC has it on their site.

That or get another lowband GE, put the RXrock only in it (NO CONVERSION) just get the COR/AUDIO/GND taps out of itand use a separate (synthesized) link radio the the $89 NHRC controller to trigger the link tx.
