Re: [Repeater-Builder] Building a Icom repeater HELP !!!!
No problems making a repeater with the F420's ... You can back to back the radios with the OPC-617 and make a repeater or in band bi-directional link with a simple crossover cable to pass Disc Audio to the Tx and COS to PTT and vice versa... Also they will pass CTCSS. I will dig out the pinouts for the crossover cable. Also you will need to solder some pads in the radio's to configure the correct audio to the option lead. With the crossover lead it's pretty much plug in and go. I'll get back to you Regards _ Gareth Bennett This e-mail is confidential, if you received this message in error, or you are not the intended recipient, please return it to the sender and destroy any copies. Re: [Repeater-Builder] Building a Icom repeater HELP !!!!
Hi Matt I have the same Icoms that you Do. Bought them at Dayton Hamfest for $25 dollars a piece. Bought an Repeater interface ITS-10 from EPCOM,along with the Programming Cable software for less than a $100 bill. it works great. Picked up a 4 can Motorola Cavity at Geotgetown,Oh Hamfest for $100. use (T1501Al) works great with the Hustler G6-440 Antenna. At 30 feet, my range is 16 Miles. I do use Andrew Hardline. The ICS-10 is a complete Repeater Interface that plugs into each Radio. Audio,Keying Cor, 3 second delay. Years ago when I didn,t shake so bad. Would have done it the Hard Way. Wesley AB8KD Yahoo! [Repeater-Builder] Anyone here who can answer a question about cabling?
I had a question from a friend which I can't answer ... I've never heard what he's referring to. Is there anyone here who can confirm or correct this: One of our local repeaters has a popping noise that gets severe during high wind conditions. I have heard that LMR type coax can cause this noise. Various reasons have been discussed including the dis- similar metels between the inner and outer shield, also nicking the copper clad on the center conductor. I am told this condition only occurs on a repeater using the same coax for Rx and Tx. The repeater in question has a very clear signal when transmitting, the noise only comes on while receiving a signal, both with and without modulation. This leads me to susspect the dis-similar metals theory. I'd appreciate any insight you may have on the question, preferably directly to me Thanks in advance Terry WX7S Yahoo! RE: [Repeater-Builder] Anyone here who can answer a question about cabling?
Terry, If you are using LMR for feed-line you will most likely have trouble eventually. But the problem you described sounds more like static electricity build-up.. read this article.. http://www.repeater-builder.com/antenna/static.html mike -Original Message- From: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of tdettmann Sent: Friday, March 31, 2006 1:07 PM To: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com Subject: [Repeater-Builder] Anyone here who can answer a question about cabling? [Repeater-Builder] LMR Feed line
Hi Terry, Pretty much any coax, which moves will cause some noise, even hard line. Some of the problem is related to the shielding value, the dilectric and conductor material, amount of movement, type of termination (antenna equipment at both ends of the line), weather, nearby and distant objects... yadda, yadda, yadda (not the Food Network Giada - pronounced similar to yadda) I don't like or use LMR Feed line in new installs, I've had summer heat kill a new install in 3 months. The noise issue is not exclusive to LMR feed lines, but it seems to get a serious amount of credit when using said line. Real 1/2 hardline is not really that much more money and seems to be really cheap on ebay if you search around. You could put a termination (dummy load) in place of the antenna to test for static buildup as mentioned by others here in the group. You didn't say what type of antenna you're using. I would first lean toward dealing with the antenna first if it's a fiberglass unit. Even in the current wet weather we're having on the West Coast, one of the fiberglass antennas I have on a system pops like crazy when it's windy. We plan to change the antenna out for a dipole array if the rain would ever quit. cheers, skipp One of our local repeaters has a popping noise that gets severe during high wind conditions. [Repeater-Builder] Re: Need Plan info on handheld coverage in Business Band for 60 miles or so
Do you want or need handheld (portable) coverage inside and outside the store? What is the general operating area of the radios? skipp n9lv [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: We have four stores that is spread over nearly a 60 mile radius. From store one to store 4, there is about 60 air miles between them. Locating the repeater here at my home about 100', it will be on UHF. Using mobile radios, they would all be able to reach the repeater, but I would like to enhance it somehow that the handhelds would be able to be used between the stores.
