2006-06-05 Thread David
Yea but if you do the float mod found on repeater builder then the deep
cycle battery will float charge when ever the power supply is plugged in and
turned on

One thing your power convert in the motor home probably does is to keep a
charge on the RV deep cycle battery. I doubt that the Astron will do that.
Good luck,

I'm trying to remember the brand John, but I've repaired many
of these "switchers" a year or so ago. The company is out of
business, therefore the repair (for an RV company).

There are two low value resistors (10 ohm?) that feed the
gates of the MOSFETs, which open. Simply change these with
higher wattage units and they live happily. Originally 1/4
watt and I swapped them with 1/2 watt.

Pain to take apart but worth it.

2006-06-05 Thread Ronny Julian
While you are at it. Build in the -BB option or buy one of the newer
Battery backup option Astrons. I have the 20A-BB and a 100 AH CD
Technologies 12vdc battery and it keeps that up just fine. I put a
cheap DVM on the battery so I can track when it drops below the 20%
threshold suggested for these cells.

Thanks Bill,

I was wondering about the rental manuals, if you could copy them.  It seems
like a reasonable price if you consider the prices of $200.00 and up.

Thanks Mike,
I downloaded the calibration and it was for the 1100S, but the service

[Repeater-Builder] Astron power supply question

2006-06-05 Thread JOHN MACKEY
Yea, this is a little off topic!

After spending MANY hours today trying to get the 110V AC to 12V DC 45amp
converter for my motorhome operating, I am looking for new ideas. This system
needs to keep my deep cycle battery charged AND power the 12V DC appliances in
the motorhome.

Of course, I could go to several RV suppliers & purchase a replacement unit
for about $250. But I don't have the money to spend right now!!

So I am wondering if there is any reason I could not use the Astron 50 amp 12v
DC supply I have sitting in my garage doing nothing??

Ideas?

(I would trust the Astron more anyway because I think manufacturers
under-build most RV power systems. This 45 amp supply that has died looked to
me more like a 20 amp supply.)

thanks
