Hi John,

I'm just curious what is wrong with your IFR 1500S? The attenuator in
mine is starting to act up. My friend just had a 1200SS fixed at
http://www.kgelectronics.com/
and was very happy with the service Kurt gave him. If I decide to have
mine fixed it will go to Kurt.

2010-01-07 Thread AA8K73 GMail
*rant*

I remember back in the early 1960s going to the local home and
boat show. Our local Ma Bell office had a demonstration set up
to show us the new Touch Tone service they were preparing us
for. They had a demo with step and pick relays on one side and
DTMF on the other. You got to dial the same phone numbers on
both systems to compare the process to call completion. The big
selling point they were pushing was how much money this was
going to save us. The dial was cheaper to make and maintain,
the lines didn't have to carry DC and could be cheaper, the CO
equipment would be much easier to maintain. This was going to
save us lots of money. Then they discovered that people
preferred TT and decided that we would be willing to pay extra
for it.

I remember when banks were encouraging us to use ATMs to help
save them money on human tellers. Now they charge us fees for
using them.

Pay TV promised entertainment without commercials. Pay radio
sold no commercial music. I'm getting ready to cancel my
satellite radio service because they keep playing ads and promos
on their popular channels and the irritating DJs feel they have
to talk between each track. If I want that, I'll just listen to
broadcast radio.

Digital TV promised us better quality signals, but came with
reduced signal coverage and now less frequency spectrum.

Comcast introduced broadband by telling us we could use it as
much as we wanted without having to pay usage fees like the
those dial-up ISPs.

Why doesn't this country trust big business? Past performance.

But, I wander. Let's see, where is my high blood pressure
medicine? :)

Spectrum Analyzer seems limited in its abilities, won't sweep the entire
range like the 8924C does, If I remember the max step size was 5 or 10 MHz
per division.

Also certain 26xx's have the stuff to do P25, may be desirable for you but
the price of the unit usually increases 3-6dB.

 Not true :-))

All local phone lines have DC on them 48 Volts.
That's what powers the touch tone pad and makes the phone work.
The loop current on the line when Off Hook is about 20 Ma and the line
 voltage
drops to about 6 - 8 volts. depending on the resistance of the cable
 pair to the local office
 or remote unit.

I have a R2670B and a R2600D. I have been using them for years.

Wont part wither either one. Great for P25, conv, astro and with AES

Have yet any problems with either, (well of course I did. Had to replace
the fuse in the ant jack, not a problem, but we all know why it blew)

Even use the monitors with GD auto test, and it works with ease

And for the 3ghz and mototrbo the R8000 is a great box, GD has always been
good for me, except for their price, you have to just about put your house
up.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Motorola R 2600 Service Monitor Comments/Price??

2010-01-07 Thread Gary
The R2600 is a fine service monitor for analog applications below 1000Mhz.
If you're looking for a monitor that can be upgrade for digital audio
applications then the R2600 is not for you. Only the R2670 offers such
upgrades. Since you mentioned it's monochromatic I'll assume it's either an
A, B, or C version. One bit of advice on these, If it's a R2600 CBS
(cellular base station) and it's in otherwise good shape then I'd recommend
getting it. CBS's came stock with the high stability oscillator, 100 watt
capability, and tracking generator. The service center in Illinois can
remove the cellular slice, upgrade the firmware, fix anything else and
return you a R2600CHS. That's what I did and I'm very pleased with it. The
R2600 is larger and heavier than most of the 8920 series HP's but I find it
just as easy if not easier to use. Scheduling repair or calibration work can
be a little tricky now that GD manages the product line and the service
center is no longer run by Motorola but the same folks are still there and
the service hasn't changed from what I understand.

We are currently using a DB-573-EE for our 224.280 machine in Springfield,

only meant for 217-222 with 3 dBd gain, but it works pretty well. Our SWR
at 224.280 is 1.3 to 1, almost flat on 222.680 (input). These are good
antennas if you can find one.
