I'm working on a 6 meter split site 6 meter repeater. I have linking radios, however I need a good working low band mastr 2 100 watt radio only. I don't need any accessories. I'm trying to find one near central NY to save on shipping costs. Any one got one to sell? Thanks, Mike KA2NDW
RE: [Repeater-Builder] Remote Receiver site
I've used GE mastr 2. swap out UHF receive section with a VHF receiver. Duplex radio and your all set. Lots of guys do this for split site 6 meter repeaters. Here's a quick and simple way to tell if there's another repeater some where and what freqs. the current one is on. Just turn off the ones you've found and see what radios no longer bring up the repeater. Then you'll know if it's bus, police, or maintenance. RE: [Repeater-Builder] 2 meter repeater [1 Attachment]
John, I'm e-mailing this directly as well as the group so the attachment comes through (I think yahoo strips them off). I'm using a hustler G-7 on 2 meters and a G-6 on 440 machine. Both have been up on the tower for 2 years. Both have worked fine with no problems. They both are mount on a cross bar out from the tower with no top support. I'm located in up-state NY york and our winters are pretty rough on antennas. I did made a couple of changes to them however. First throw out the cheap radials that come with it and go to the hardware store and buy some solid alum tubing. I learned this the hard way as the one's that come with it are howl tubing. after the birds sit on it or it gets iced up once they break off. Secondly once you get it all tuned Krylon makes a clear coat spray paint. Spray the whole thing a couple of times. Does wonders protecting it from the UV rays. I've attached a picture of the tower with the antennas on it. Good luck with your repeater. He suggested we use a G7-144. Our antenna will be mounted on top of the tower at either 60 or 70 feet, as we getting a newer tower than the 35 foot one that is up now. Does anybody think that the G7 will not hold up being top mounted? I have read the comments here about current the antenna question on the G7-220 and have read the G7-144 reviews on eham, which run both ways. Now I am looking for actual repeater owners' comments, which I would value more than the eham ones. Hopefully, we will have it up and running by July. The funny thing is our users will be shocked when they can get into it easily with a handheld as he wants to run it from his location for awhile to make sure all the bugs are out. His antennas are at the 350 foot level and only 20 miles west of us. I am afraid they will be disappointed when we go to the lower level. Thanks for all the advice. 73 John, W3ML

Working on hooking a rigblaster nomic to a Icom 25a mobile radio for echolink. The Icom key line needs to be pulled to ground to key the radio. The nomic is only making it down to 1.5 volts. It's enough to make the tx led on the radio come on but not down low enough to actual key the radio. I've tried to come up with a circuit to pull it the rest of the way but not coming up with anything that works. Any body been down this road before me? Paul, I have a set up on my tower like your thinking of doing. I have a 2 meter and 440 machine. The wireless 900 MHz antenna is on the very top position of the tower. ( I let them have the top so they could take all the lighting hits) Under that about 15 feet are the 2 meter and 440 antennas across from one another. A ways below that is a 2.6 gig microwave link. All the equipment is located in in the same building. To date we have had no issues. Some where I think I might have a current picture if your interested in seeing it. If this happens make sure you deal for some internet at the site for yourself! works great for connection at the site for echolink. RE: [Repeater-Builder] Re: Ge mastr 2 link question
Thanks to all that replied with suggestions for my linking problem. With all the answers you gave I was able to resolve the problem. The first mistake was in one radio I forgot to put a load across the speaker connections as I wasn't using one. ( the other radio I did. must have been one of those late night deals). Once I did that the hum went away but the audio was very disorted from the link to main port. Took the audio off speaker hi and connected it to vol arm. Problem solved and now sounds as it should. Now if it ever stops raining it will be back to the hill to reinstall at the site. Once again it's amazing the wealth of information you can get from the repeater builder group! Thanks agian, Mike KA2NDW
RE: [Repeater-Builder] Ge mastr 2 link question
Thanks for all of the suggestions. However I think you guys are missing the problem. Both repeaters work fine when they are not linked together. As stand alone machines they work fine and the audio sounds fine. Once I turn on the secondary port on the NHRC-4/m2 is when the noise occurs. I'm thinking it has something to do with the way the controller is handling the audio. Playing with the deviation changes the level of the noise however doesn't get rid of it. The testing is being done on the bench and not at the site. Both machines have been test on bench running alone and work fine. I guess if it was easy it would be fun! Any new suggestions? Thanks, Mike KA2NDW
RE: [Repeater-Builder] Ge mastr 2 link question
Paul, Eric Thanks for the response. I did some more testing with your suggestions. I tried hooking both radios up to a deep cycle battery. The hum is still there so I think that rules out the astrons! The audio from the main repeater to the link isn't as bad as from the link back to the main repeater. Both have a hum to them however the 2 meter to the 440 you can hear the voice. the other way all you get is the hum. For testing I have it on the bench in the basement. the only common connection is only the audio and tx lines between the two radios. I have also tried it with a common ground as suggested by NHRC in the controller directions. Both have the same results. I want to make sure it works here before it goes back to the hill. At the site it's just my radio equipment and Wifi internet which has not given me any problems with both machines working there prior to bringing them to my house to work on this linking project. Maybe tomorrow I will give NHRC a call and see if they have run into this problem before. Thanks, Mike KA2NDW -Original Message- From: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Paul Plack Sent: Sunday, October 19, 2008 4:59 PM To: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [Repeater-Builder] Ge mastr 2 link question Ditto the possible issue with the Astrons, but you may also have too many common grounds. If you have the grounds of the machines interconnected through (1) the power supplies, (2) antenna and/or feedline bonds, (3) rack rails, (4) through the linking cable and (5) an additional, "just to be sure" ground strap between the radios, you could very easily have a ground loop. Since all the interconnections are made using unbalanced audio lines, you can't just lift the ground at one end as we might try in the pro audio world. Sometimes, a cheapo audio transformer, like the 600-ohm isolation transformers from Radio Shack, are enough to alleviate the loop, because they allow you to leave an audio ground floating from the chassis at one end of the link cable. A quick, cheap investigative tool here is one of the old three-into-two-prong AC plug adapters. If you use it to lift the ground pin on one of the Astrons and the problem goes away, it will be an important clue. I guess i should have mention that was my first atempt at repeater building back in the early 80's. It was located on a hill behind my house and not a commerical site. My first repeater was installed in a refridgerator that i gutted. I didn,t have temp comp rocks in the setup so keeping the temp steady was the goal. The refg. i pick was one with the freezer in the bottom. Made a great place to put power supply and power strips etc. I cut vent hole between freezer and refrid. box. At the top in the rear I installed a vent and fan. I hook the fan up to a t-stat so that when the box got above 70 degrees the fan would come on and pull air up from the bottom and out the back at the top where the fan was located. In the winter i used the light bulb that was in the refridg. That was also hooked up to a t-stat so in the colder months the light bulb would come on and heat the box up.The key was to remember to change t-stats with the seasons so they weren't fighting each other. Some where I have a drawing of how it was wired if your interested Mike KA2NDW - Original Message - From: Robin Staebler <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Friday, November 26, 2004 7:58 AM Subject: [Repeater-Builder] Cabinet Suggestions > > > I am thinking about security and ventilation. > > Site is cool/warm (comm trailer on state/county site heated/cooled) > > So what about gutting a small refrigerator; several vent and cable ports > Putting repeater and cavities in box > Locking same... > > Comments criticisms > > -- > Robin WE1MD > > > > > > > > > > > Yahoo! I think I have a manual for that whole set up with the tune up instructions. If you want I'll see if I can dig it out and scan it for you. [Repeater-Builder] hamtronics audio
Hi All, anyone using a hamtronics COR3 with a master 2. I can't seam to get the audio to sound right. It seams to be low in volume and sounds tinny. Adding resistance and /or caps improves one or the other but not both. Any body got one of these that has suggestions? Thanks for the help, Mike KA2NDW Yahoo!
