RE: [Repeater-Builder] VOCOM (or VO-COM?) Power Amplifier Retuning

2004-01-29 Thread Shanon Lee Herron
Hi Group,

I would like the same information for a UHF VOCOM. Took multiple phone
calls and months to get the service manual out of them. What I got was
useless. And I specifically told them I needed instructions to retune it to
the ham band. All I got is what could be considered a specification for
bid. Some technical info, diagrams, no service instructions. Had hook up
instructions.

I would like to correspond with anybody who has retuned a
Vocom PA (quarter watt in - 100 watt out) from the commercial
band down to the 146 MHz range.

Thanks de John
..

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Off topic questions

2004-01-03 Thread Shanon Lee Herron
Yeah, that smell of the new catalog! Came in a brown wrapper. Still have a
few of the old ones, can't seem to be able to throw them away.

I remember when we found out that Lafayette's cost code was PHARMOCIST
then we knew just how low to pay for an item. Rode my bike the 5 miles to
the store in Livonia Michigan three times in one day after the right parts.

We only have one parts store in the entire Detroit area that I know of,
The Electronic Connection in Westland. Their prices are at least three
times what I can buy them for on the internet. They won't be long. Mostly
sell CB's and radar detectors to truckers. There are Newark and RS
Electronics outlets but they cater to the automotive companies. Newark
stocks very little here due to warehouse taxing. RS is expensive too.

Yeah, life was good when the new Allied catalog arrived...the stuff dreams
are made of.

Boy, I long for the old-time radio electronics places like Lafayette Radio
and Burstein-Applebee.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Icom 4020

2003-11-01 Thread Shanon Lee Herron

Hello Joe,

I have a 4520 but don't wish to sell it
right now, maybe at a later date. Matter of fact I have been working on it
the past week to get it on the air with an external controller, an
RC-1000V. I would be glad to share what I have learned with you. I
also have some sheets from ACC on hooking up all of the Icom repeaters.
Again willing to share. I was hoping to scan them over to a Adobe PDF file
and post them. I also have all the manuals for the Icom repeaters. I
also have a 2m and 220 Icom repeater. All have been adapted to external
controllers. I have also changed out the cables to RG-142 and connectors
on the 2m and 220 to N connectors. Killed the desence. Pictures now
available on these changes.

The 4520tuned up real nice into the
ham band. It was in the commercial area above when I got it. The Tx
does over 50 watts but I have turned it down to 30. I bought it with a
Vicor 100 watt amp, not sure if I will use it or not.

Let me know if you need the info. If
someone would help guide me, I will put the info up for posting somewhere.
Time permitting. (what's that?)
