Re: [inbox] [Repeater-Builder] SpectraTac receiver on 12v

2006-01-17 Thread Steven Passmore, kf6fkk
Thanks to all who responded on this. I had only planned to run the receiver on
12v as a diagnostic measure to isolate the power supply as the problem. Hearing
that quite a few others have experienced the problem makes me relatively sure
that the caps are in fact bad.

Bob M. If it isn't too much of a problem a scan of the pages you mentioned
would be very much appreciated.

I wont be near the receivers until this weekend but will definitely take a look
at the supplies.

Thanks,
Steve Passmore

Thanks, I'm not too concerned about the filtering as I will be running it off a
battery for the test. Do you recall whether the 12V input is fairly well
marked? I don't remember seeing it when I looked for something like that
although I was only looking at the backplane.

[Repeater-Builder] SpectraTac receiver on 12v

2006-01-15 Thread Steven Passmore, kf6fkk
Is it possible to operate SpectraTac receivers on 12v easily? I don't have a
manual for the unit so I'm unsure what the specific connections are for. The
two VHF units I have exibit a slight 60Hz hum in the audio. I'd like to try
running them on 12v to isolate the built in supply as the problem.

Thanks

[Repeater-Builder] DB201

2005-12-10 Thread Steven Passmore, kf6fkk
Anyone know if there are any differences between the Hi-band vs. the UHF
versions of the DB201? ie. can one tuned for 170MHz be retuned for 450?
Looking at the drawings and specs they all seem to be the same with the
exception of the low band ones having a longer support pipe.

Thanks,

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: folded dipole antenna id

2005-08-23 Thread Steven Passmore, kf6fkk
Thanks to all for responding about the antenna. The harness on mine is a
quite stiff but I don't see any cracks in it. I'll try putting some power
to is and see what comes back. Hopefully it'll work and I can replace the
diamond that's currently in use. I read a message in the archive that the
only difference in the ham band version was the harness. I suppose it could
be replaced but the unknown is what's under the 'insulators' on the
elements.

Robert, I'd be interested in seeing the paperwork if at all possible.

The only interface for IRLP is the card available from them. It's available
from www.irlp.net You can also add echolink to an IRLP node via the
EchoIRLP project www.echoirlp.com It works really well and makes a nice

Thanks for the response Russ.

I got an email stating that all DB-411's were out of production. I still see
it listed on their website though. Is anyone using a 450 version on a ham
repeater? My site is on the side of a hill so an omni would just dump half
the power into the hill. I think the DB-411 looks ideal. Comments and

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: I need to take 5 volts to 8 volts, and one have a schematic

2005-05-11 Thread Steven Passmore

I'm not advocating V7A's for link service or
anything but they are available cheap on the used market because many of them
have failing displays which cost more to repair than the radio's
worth.

You can pull a "cos" out of them that follows PL by
tapping the rx mute transistors for each speaker jack,   program
one receiver for spkr 1 and the other receiver for spkr 2.   The rx
mute transistors are surface mount LM3909's.  Schematics are available on
the web.   Also you must leave the two volume controls cracked
slightly or else the rx doesn't unmute

That was a good point out, never gave that a thought, so now I will just
build 4 cor circuits to make them work, that will be easier than trying to
make 5 volts jump to 8, can just make a simple 10 or 8 volt COR circuit.

2005-02-01 Thread Steven Passmore

If your talking about the TM-V7A/E The packet connector has a COS line, but
for the record it is carrier only, PL has no effect.

If you need PL, it's hard to get since the CTCSS decoder is shared between
the bands. The RX mute transistor can be tapped for CSQ+PL per band.

The service manual for this radio is readily available on the net

If the moderators elect to do this you'll have to use yahoo's "add member"

That's not quite true, it only searches 151 messages at a time, so if you
wanted to search the entire archive you'd have to do over 300 searches

That only searches the messages on your computer, moose email programs have
that feature built in too. While I have the list mail from 10/03 on, the
archive goes back to 1999
Anyone have all 47K messages?Maybe we could put them online somewhere as
a "knowledge base" or something.

Skipp, you might consider sending the list email to a regular email account
instead of viewing it on the yahoo groups site. Even if it's just some
freebie one. Yahoo doesn't chop the senders address in that case.

His address is johneverson at sbcglobal.net

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: Speaker Level Mixing

2004-12-31 Thread Steven Passmore

How much less are you wanting to spend.. I've searched around the net and
it's a fairly specialized item. Using 1:1 transformers you'd have to buy 2.
Given that, $14 doesn't seem too bad. From looking at the picture it
appears the transformer is about 2"x1.75"x1.5" not counting the mounting
ears... definitely smaller than a coke can.

BTW. Finally found it on the mfr's website

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Mast Materials

2004-04-26 Thread Steven Passmore
I tried making a light pole using 3 10' sections of 3" or 4" (I forget) The
couplings are a definite weak spot. The pipe is threaded at that point
making it weaker and the connection just isn't very rigid no matter how
tight you make it. We ended up welding the couplings just to keep it from
flopping around. I wouldn't trust putting anything substantial up there
without reinforcing the joints somehow.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] IRLP "TYPE" BOARD LOOKING

2003-12-18 Thread Steven Passmore
You might look into the commercial implementation of IRLP.
http://www.irlp.net/introduction.html It's point to point, IP based and uses
embedded hardware instead of standard PC's. All of these systems including
the NXU-2 boxes you mentioned contain a computer of some sort.

I would stay away from the 486/echolink proposal though, way too much
administration, how would you like to reboot your link everytime microsoft
releases a patch.
