[Repeater-Builder] Motorola Mocom 70 PA Board with Heatsink
Hello Group, I have a Mocom 70 with intact PA section. Radio is a [T73BBA1900BA]. The PA board # is [TLD8882] The transistor chain is made up of [M9622], [M9624], and (4) four [M9625]. I thought perhaps that the PA section would make a great 2m amp. Is anyone interested? I would think the transistors would be worth $35.00. Not sure what voltages are required for PA, so complete radio would be shipped. (Or I can separate the PA section from main chassis.) Certainly be less shipping weight!!(LoL) Regards, Tim W7TRH /AFA0TP Vashon Is. Wa.
[Repeater-Builder] Kenwood TK-630S Low Band for Rpt. use?
Hello Group, I am interested in an owners or Tech. manual for this radio, or just some general info..Power, ease of programming, number of channels, programmer KPT-10 available on eBay? Andy Brinkley's site says he is out of proms for this radio! Thinking of using two of these radios for a 6m rpt. Will they go up to six meters? I realize that the radios are Vintage. Regards, Tim W7TRH Vashon Is. Wa.
[Repeater-Builder] Antenna Phasing Question
Hello Folks I have three (3) Antel [BCD 80010] 806-900 mHz vertical antennae that I would like to mount on the three legs of my tower for omni pattern (Rec. only). Several questions come to mind. 1.) At the rated frequency, how many inches should the side arm place the ant. from the tower? 2.)What would be the best way to phase the antennae? I have a Andrews three port Splitter, and will use LDF4-50A for feedline. I would suspect the length of the pigtail from each antenna to splitter is going to be critical...or not, for receive only? BTW..How good of an antenna is the Antel BCD 80010? Many thanks for any guidance and wisdom. Tim Hardy W7TRH/AFA0TP Vashon Is. Wa.
[Repeater-Builder] Narrow Banding versus Marine Channels (OT)
Hello Thought you folks would be the ones to ask. Am I going to be forced to purchase new marine VHF radios, or is the Marine Band going to stay @ 5 kHz dev.? Tim Hardy W7TRH / AFA0TP Vashon Is. Wa.
[Repeater-Builder] Re: ARRL Approves Study Committee to Research Develop Plan for Narrowband Channel Spacing
Hello Group, I may be confusedso please set me straight. I thought that the new Narrow Band was the narrowing the channel spacing from 25kHz. to 12.5kHz, and of course, knocking down the deviation from 5 kHz. to 2.5 kHz. On the subject of affordable Narrow Band gearI highly recommend the Icom F-121 (VHF), or F-221 (UHF). These radios feature PC programming, and are wide/narrow band selectable per channel. Price is about $275.00 for the eight channel version. There is a 128 ch. version available for more ! I guess I am Waiting in the Wings, like everyone else.! In the commercial and public safety world (Motorola style primarily as I am not entirely up on all the others except to find that the Kenwood, Icoms and Vertex stuff was slow to adopt 2.5 KHz steps), if it accepts 2.5 Khz steps, then you can select narrowband and it will narrow up its IF's for receive, boost the audio on RX and narrow down the transmit accordingly. All of the ham stuff that I have now will do narrowband, but most will NOT do a 2.5 KHz step. Does that help clarify it ;) James WJ1D Again, as of about 13 years ago or so, the FCC mandated that narrowband modes be included in radios for Part 90. The 2.5 KHz steps issue is not related at all.
[Repeater-Builder] EOC Frequencies Available?
Hello Group This is slightly OT, but I have exhausted all resources, and am at a dead end! About a year ago (on this list), some folks were chatting about EOC Frequencies Are they really in existance? I am familiar with SEMNET low band fxs, but are there any VHF/UHF federal fxs available? Here, on Vashon Island Wa, we have a great EOC, with about thirty Hams on the team.(ARES). Our club W7VMI, has a UHF rpt. on the Island. Yes, we utilize Ham frequencies, but during a major earthquake, or other large disaster, I am afraid that the bands will become over crowded!Besides the large main fire station/EOC, we have four satillite stations, all equipped to talk to the EOC, over HAM fxs. I would like to utilize Federal EOC fxs., if available. Any info as to the existance of EOC frequencies would be greatly appreciated. Tim W7TRH
[Repeater-Builder] PROGRAMMING MOT. HT-1000
Hello Group, It is always confusing to figure out what computer to use for programming, ie. speed of processor, what operating system, etc. I am using a Ribless cable, pluged into Com 1. The RSS appears to be DOS screen. (I looked at the RSS on a 2 gig processor computer, running XP). Probably too fast, huh? I have a 386-16, Dos 6.xx computer I use for Midland XTR programming. Would this be a better choice? What type of above would I need to reprogram a UHF HT-1000? The model # is H01SDC9AA3DN I would like to program it to the 70 cm HAM band. I have access to RSS 02.10.02 [RVN4098D], and 03.02.01 [RVN4098G] Do I need to hold the [SHIFT] key while entering frequencies? Thanks for any information. Tim Hardy W7TRH
[Repeater-Builder] QUNANTAR Battery Revert Cable Plug
Hello Group, Is there an aftermarket plug available for the rpt. end of the battery revert cable for the 125 watt VHF Quantar. Or, does anyone have any tips for connecting cables for this option? Thank You! Tim W7TRH/AFA0TP Wa.
[Repeater-Builder] Need microphone Pin Outs For QUANTAR
Happy 4th Group! I am in need of microphone jack pin out for the Quantar Rpt. I have plenty of Motorola mikes, but all have the wrong size modular connector! Once I get the correct pin out, I have crimper in hand, and ready to go! Thanks much for any info. TIM W7TRH Vashon Is. Wa.
[Repeater-Builder] SPECTRA Control Cable
Hello, Hope this is not too far off topic, but need the info! I need to know if there is any difference between the control cable for the Astro-Spectra(100 watt) (Large Head), and the conventional Spectra w/A9 head! These radios are mobile units. All of the cables are mixed up in a large box! I would like to match the cables to the radios and control heads. Are the power cables terminated with the same plug on radio end? Thanks for any and all help. Tim W7TRH Vashon Is. Wa.
[Repeater-Builder] Need Attenuator Dial for Cushman CE- 50A

[Repeater-Builder] QUANTAR WIRE LINE BOARD
Hello Group, First of all, I would like to thank all those how have given me info and help with my Quantar rpt. I sure appreciate it. Had the rpt.(Quantar UHF 125w) programmed yesterday, at a Motorola Shop. Origional FX was within 1.5 mHZ of New fxs! Hopefully the frontend of rec will not require any adj. The rpt. DOES NOT have a Wire line board installed. Someone told me recently that a Controller could be connected to rpt. through the wireline, to give control of Rpt. ID, courtesy beep, linking. ect. Since I did not see any metion of rpt. ID or squelch setting, when tech was programming with ver. 10.xx.xx, I need a way of controlling/setting those aspects. If the controller board has a Linking port, would it be usable, connected to a 4 wire wire line board? The tech was not too familiar with the Quantar, as he said they were too expensive, and he did not see that many of them. He did say to turn down power to 100 Watts, and increase Hang time. He told me that the PA were failing because of the high On/Off time, with a short hang time setting. I did have him reduce power, and increase hang time to 8 seconds! I realize I Ramble, but my main concern is remote control (In same room) of rpt., and linking. (Not through ethernet of Telco. Tim Hardy W7TRH Vashon Is, Wa, USA
[Repeater-Builder] Programming Quantar
Hello Group, I have a VHF QUANTAR,T5365A, RANGE 1. The sticker on rpt. cage reads [CAE1N80LY7], JUL/01. I plan to use this rpt in ANALOG mode. I am curious if RSS [R09.07.00]is usable for this vintage. What operating system, ie. Windows 98, and speed of computer is required? (I would not think the RSS would run under DOS 6.22)? I want to thank every one of the folks that gave me sage advise on my last post regarding this rpt. QUANTAR programming is new to meOnly have experience with Maxtrac and Radius mobiles. Regards, Tim Hardy W7TRH
[Repeater-Builder] Motorola Quantar 125 watt Repeater [VHF Range 1]
Hello Group I have a few questions regarding this nine year old rpt. [NOS] As old as it is, I am wondering if the RSS would have to be purchased from Motorola? I plan to use the rpt. in Conventional mode, even though it is ASTRO capable. I have the complete instruction manual[68P81095E05-B] for the rpt., and it appears that it is programmed by a Null Modem cable, connected to the front, or rear? This makes me believe that the cable would connect directly to the Apporiate speed computer, with NO RIB utilized. Is the software Windows 98 type, or can later operating systems be used? Also, from what I read, the only Hands On tuning is the front end recieve helicals...the rest of set up is done with software? I sure am excited to get this rpt. in operation. I am thinking that RSS is going to be the biggest hurdle in getting the machine up and running. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has used this type of rpt., and learn before doing. I certainly do not want to Blow any modules! Thanks for any help and advice. Tim Hardy W7TRH Vashon Is. Wa.
[Repeater-Builder] Maxon SM4150M programming cable
I am requesting assistance in finding a source to purchase a programming cable for the MAXON SM4150 VHF Mobile radio. Is it going to be difficult to obtain software, or am I going to have to deal with Maxon. I am planning to use a pair, and whip up a Link to our local EOC on Vashon Island, Wa. This is my first attempt using Maxon radioshave always used Maxtrac radios, but the Maxons were a Steal! Appreciate any assistance. Tim Hardy W7TRH/AFA5TP Wa.
