I do not have a DStar repeater but just analog voice and have had a
Comet GP-21 up on the top of a 275' tower since june 02. Its been a
solid performer for me. I would not recommend a multiband omni as they
are usually multi section antennas and that leads to more going wrong
with it over time. The base of the tower is at about 100' above sea
level. My coverage with the GP-21 is about 25 miles out for the 10watt
mobiles over mostly flat terrain. Portables at 1 watt out to about 10
to 15 miles if you pick your spot well. See info below .dan n2aym

Eric - I too am looking for doc on this svc mon.

I need the Service Calibration doc you have and hope
you can help me out with some copies or steer me in the
direction of your supplier. TIAdan n2aym
NOTE: Please email me at my qrz listed email address.

Does anyone know of a source for the IFR-1900 schematics? I have each
of the Service, Calibration Operating manuals, however, schematics
 are not within them.

I assume this is because Aeroflex still supports the units for a
lucrative fee and doesn't want competition.

 Thanks, Eric

[Repeater-Builder] Re: RF Problem with new repeater

Sounds like it may be the internal switching power supply
malfunctioning and emitting much noise. Try running it on DC and see
if the noise goes away.dan n2aym

 Hi group,

I seem to be having an RF Problem with a new Icom FR4000 Repeater. The
repeater is letting out a hissing noise when I listen to it on a HT or
my mobile radio. The hissing noise sounds more like a squelch that is
opened up. When I get about 300 feet from the repeater the noise is
gone. It does not key the transmiter. This is why I am puzzled. The
only way I have found to get arround it is turn my squelch way up on my
HT to remove the noise. When I key up my HT the noise drops out while
the repeater is transmitting. The repeater and repeater tower is at my
home. If it was several miles out of town I would not be emailing you.
I have mounted it in a metal case, grounded the repeater by the
grounding screw, grounded the coax by twisting copper around the coax
sheild, grounded the repeater cabinet. I first thought that the problem
was from the duplexers. Not so, I took the duplexers out of line and
still noise. The only way to remove the noise is to turn off the
repeater. Something I don't won't to do. Any thoughts ???

[Repeater-Builder] Re: New QRM on 220 MHz.......?

2007-12-30 Thread fineshot1
Yes Roger - I do hear this on 220 from time to time and more so in the
dense city environments. If you are going to search for Cable TV
leakage listen to 221.750(CATV CH 23 Audio Carrier) or 223.250(CATV CH
24 Video Carrier). These will yield you the best signal levels.
Good luck..dan n2aym

As I mobile around while monitoring the output of my 224.18 MHz
repeater as I have done for many years (it has been on the air since
the late 70's), I have never heard any kind of strange signals on its
output freq. or any 220 output freq. I have a 3 band Kenwood in the
car and am used to hearing signals break the squelch on certain 2M and
440 frequencies, but never 220. The past few weeks, I have heard
signals (CW, no modulation noticed) of a fairly strong nature break
the squelch on 224.18 MHz, much like the signals that break the
squelch on certain 440 repeater output freqs, which were eventually
traced to cable TV leakage.

I am wondering if anyone else has heard signals of this nature on
the 220 band? I know of three places within a few miles of my house
that emit these signals. I am going to take my talkie out one of these
days ands see if I can home in on one of these new signals.

We are using a GE Master II with an RLC Club controller for our 444.600

this is due to very fast action of the CAS turning the controller audio
off and on. Looking at the schematic, U603 has internal fast and slow
modes. There is an adjustment, R622 that I can't find in the book. Does
anyone know how to slow down or improve the squelch action?

I have been using the RUS rather than CAS signal and have never had a
problem with that(never needed adjustment).dan n2aym

Jeff - If you have a TSU6/KQT8 CTCSS decoder installed you can get an
active high from the foil side pin 4 marked as SDO in the service
manual(assuming you have one).dan n2aym

easily get audio in and output, but I'm stumped on how to get a

Ideally I'd like a voltage that swings only when the CTCSS is detected
as well as squelch open, but I'd settle for one that is just the
 squelch.

My controller is an ICS linker.

Does anyone know the proper point to connect to, or does anyone have a
 service manual for this unit?

 Thanks,

well is a switcher that also caused birdies all through my HF gear. I

Paul - I cant speak to the switchers that you mentioned above but the
IOTA's are very well designed and some of the fellas I know that have
used them the older Todd switching supplies to power there HF
equipment have never had a problem with them causing birdies. Heck,
alot of HF gear now a days has switching supplies some of which are
built in as an option. Many repeaters that I am aware of have
switching supplies powering them. This is not as uncommon as you make
it sound..dan n2aym

I use a DLS 75 on one of my repeaters and a DLS 55 on another. They
are excellent quality supply/chargers. My 75 has the external IQ4
smart charge module charging two 75Ah AGM batteries in parallel and
has performed flawlessly obsorbing power hits since install in June 02.
I dont think you can go wrong with these they are getting pretty
reasonable prices on ebay lately(picked up the 55 for less than $100).
